QQ PASSION FRUIT GREEN TEA: This comes with coconut jelly and boba. I got this with NO sugar and less ice and it was really refreshing! Alrighty my fellow Yelpers, what happened here? I heard so much about this place and the lines to order drinks were ridiculously long. I'm the patient type that can wait but oh boy, thankfully, I only waited for about 30 minutes. Anything longer than that... I would have pulled my hair out because the drinks were beyond overhyped. We ordered their "Color Me Spring" collection of drinks since these were their newest additions - Purple Lemonade and Earl Grey Fresh Milk Tea with Spring Pearl. Again, why are people waiting in this awful line to get drinks here that I find sub-par? Perhaps I'm spoiled when it comes to boba drinks since I'm from the 626 area and we have Half and Half, ShareTea and Au79 which are all equally just as great without the painful wait. The sweetness adjustment level was super confusing. The 50% level of sweetness is their "normal" sweet which in most cases would mean half sweet and 100% should be normal. Ugh, this applies to the ice cube level with 50% being normal and 100% as more ice. Say what? This chart definitely needs to have some revamping done. Maybe this confusing step is the cause of such a long wait? Overall, nothing special other than the Purple Lemonade drinks looking super picturesque because of the layer of colors. I have no idea why so many people line up for this place. This was the only place with a line of people waiting when we first visited The Source (aka K-Source). It seemed like everyone that was coming to The Source was coming just to check out this place. The drinks were ok but nothing unusual from gazillion other boba tea places out there. Only difference I noticed is this place asks how much ice you want in your drink. Most other places let you adjust the sweetness but this place took one extra step in customization. One annoying thing about this place is the small menu display. It's hard to see anything on the menu unless you're right up at the register. It would be nice to be able to decide on what to get while you're waiting in line instead of having to decide at the last minute when there's a line of people waiting behind. That's probably why the line moves so damn slow. My wife and I didn't want to hold up the line so we just focused on its top 10 items and chose from there. We went with Milk Foam Green Tea and Panda Milk Tea, both with half sugar and ice. Half sugar was just the right amount of sweetness for us. As far as the flavor, Milk Foam Green Tea just based like any other jasmine green tea with milk. Panda Milk Tea was just a regular pearl milk tea with some type of agar jelly. Was craving for something sweet after we ate lunch. A Gong Cha opened up in SD but haven't had a chance to go so here it was so I had to try. I was interested in the Matcha marble and the guy told me the cup is lined with foam and Matcha is really sweet. I asked if they had regular Matcha milk tea without the red bean and he said no. Tucked away in the 3rd floor food court, is the newest Asian drink shop to makes its way to OC. Crowds were sparse for a Sunday afternoon. After hearing so much about Gong Cha online, I was curious to try. The location was difficult to find, as it's located on the 3rd floor in a still mostly empty shopping plaza full of mostly Korean shops. Workers there were very helpful in answering our questions about their drinks. We were warned that people usually say their drinks are super sweet, and to lower sweetness to 50%. At their recommendation, bf and I ordered the earl grey milk tea and traditional milk tea with less ice and 50% sweetness. Sampled the white boba balls, the texture reminded me of gelatin but I didn't care for it too much. Both drinks were delicious, but next time I think I'll up the sweetness to 60% or 75%. Be sure to get a stamp card, free drink for every 10 drinks. Will be back to try more of their drink menu! read more

I ordered a wintermelon drink and a mango smoothie. Both were delicious. The wintermelon drink is not a tea, it is more of a refresher. I wasn't sure how I'd like it so the person ringing me up offered me a sample and I loved it! Two different sizes: medium or large. You can adjust the amount of ice to the drink but not the amount of sweetness unfortunately. Luckily, the sweetness was not too overpowering. The mango smoothie was also on point. There is only one size for the smoothie (medium) but you can adjust the amount of sweetness to the drink. There is two different boba toppings: traditional black chewy boba and the white, not chewy but rather "crunchy" boba. The white boba was not to my liking but you can always ask to sample it before you order. I came on a Friday night and there was a long line for the 1.5 hours I was sitting there. This place is located in the new shopping area called "The Source" in Buena Park. The Gong Cha specifically is in a food court-like area with other small shops like a waffle shop and another boba shop. As someone who drinks A LOT of milk tea and who has literally tried every boba place under the sun, I would rate Gong Cha as just "aiiight." Their boba pearls are decently chewy and their tea has a very milky taste to it, but the quality still isn't as high as places that really specialize in strong brewed tea made from real leaves. I can also tell they use powder for their creamer, which I'm never a fan of. Nonetheless, the drinks are still better than Lollicup / TapEx / Quickly level, but somewhere between the likes of Kung Fu / Zero Degrees / Cha2O / 85C and the higher ranks of Ding Tea / Sharetea / Cha for Tea / Tastea. The line here can get long depending on time, but it's the only place that seems busy compare to others. I like how Gong Cha can customize their ice and sweetness level. They also have tons of add-one to choose from which makes it great. I always get either boba or basil seeds. The employees are friendly and efficient. They work fast, so even if the line is long it will be quick. Their reward system is also tied with the one in Cerritos, so you can get rewards in both locations. Don't know about others yet....will update once I find out. As far as drinks, brown sugar milk tea and pearl milk tea are the best for me. I am not a big fan of the waffle though. Food/Drinks: The drinks are not the typical ones that you'll find at other boba spots. I went with a honey green tea that tasted like all the other honey green teas of the world. The boba pearls are kind of small compared to regular sized boba. The wife got a strawberry black tea with rainbow jelly. The strawberry drinks are pretty interesting because they use some type of strawberry preserves. It was pretty good! Def something different that we had never tasted in a drink. Verdict: Overall, it was alright. I might stop by if I ever go to the CGV, but I wouldn't go out of my way to try it again. read more
