The kitchen is open which is really cool because you can watch the bakers do their thing Kind of deceptively large though because I feel that there isn't as much seating as there could be and the place is always packed. If you're here on a weekend there will be a line and you will not find an open seat. I even came once at 9am during the week in hopes of wfh but all the "booth" seating with outlets was already taken. There is a larger table for working at but outlet access is limited. The rest of the seating is high top or couches, which is better for socializing than working imo. The drink menu is limited but pretty good! I've had the matcha with simple syrup and enjoyed it. The pastries are amazing - I have tried the kouign amann and coconut ginger cake and loved them both! Upon further investigation, Good Ambler is a 16 On Center venture and I pretty much love everything they do (Moneygun, Thalia Hall, Revival Food Hall, the list goes on!). I quickly returned for a smooth cortado and buttery croissant, which were both very enjoyable. There's plenty of space for working/studying and at least in the morning hours it seems relatively quiet and relaxed. TOO MANY LAPTOPS!!! My husband and I always go on Saturday morning to grab pastries on our way to work. Today we went at 8:30, not long after they opened, and we saw 12 (!!!) people on laptops, most of them taking up tables that were meant for four or more people. Good Ambler has little signs on each table that let guests know that each customer is limited to 90 minutes seated but none of the laptop users seemed deterred and I imagine this rule is nearly impossible to actually enforce. Pastries were delicious and the space is beautiful but they HAVE TO make a rule of no laptops allowed on weekends. We saw at least four customers walk out because there was simply no place to sit. This place feels like a hidden gem! Nestled between Randolph St and Fulton market, Good Ambler is unassuming and easy to walk by without realizing it's there. However when you walk in, the space opens up to a large, bright lobby cafe, with plenty of comfy couches and cushioned seats circled around pristine coffee tables. There's also a mix of some booth seating, bar seating facing what appears to be a huge kitchen/bakery, and standing tables. It shares a space with Mondelez International's lobby which adds a very high end and shiny feel to the place. There is a beautiful mosaic (?) art piece on the wall as you walk in. Beautiful place to meet a friend to catch up over a matcha latte and pastries. Definitely more of a setting I'd like to take a friend and be social (it truly is very cute) but it's also good for studying. There's a couple outlets I saw for charging. Also free WiFi. Speaking of the food and drinks...the pastries are faaaantaaastic! Such a unique selection! I had the ginger coconut cake recently and wow it was a perfect balance of flavor, the texture was soft at the center and chewy on the edges, and it paired perfectly with my latte. I've been here a few times and had the iced matcha latte before. It was solid--just a note that they do not sweeten the matcha latte unless you ask them to. This is important because many places sweeten it by default so one might expect it to be that way! Lastly, this is a chocolate cafe! They have a colorful and eye catching selection of chocolates and each one is about $2. I haven't had it yet but I'd say it's a good deal because it's about half the price of the chocolates at the TimeOut market a few blocks away on Fulton. I was drawn to this spot because of their baked goods, but had no idea the interior was so beautiful. And spacious. There were lots of booths, tables and couch areas to sit in, and even with the mandatory social distancing, it was very comfortable and felt like you were chillin in your own living room. They have a variety of pastries, cakes, and chocolates to choose from. My bf and I got the almond coffee cake and berry cheesecake, per their suggestion. Both were great choices that complimented each other well, though we both agreed the cheesecake was better. It was sweet, tart, smooth, and fluffier than your average cheesecake. It felt like I was eating something slightly heavier than whipped cream, that's how light the cake was. And it was almost too gorgeous to eat! The coffee cake was dense, moist, and rich. The cream filling was delicious and definitely a unique twist. It would have been great with a cup of coffee. I ordered an Iced Lavender Latte with Oat Milk, and it was very tasty. They have an 8 oz or 12 oz option. They also have cold brew, drip coffee, and plenty of teas - whatever floats your boat. Their menu also includes assorted pastries, quiches, salads, soups, and sandwiches if you're hungry! The indoor seating area is cute and very spacious. There are small tables for solo working, larger tables for sitting with friends, and plenty of comfy chairs and couches - take your pick! I visited Chicago for the first time and was glad I tried Good Ambler coffee to start my day! Overall, very cute location and was amazed at the pastry selection -- it was so hard to choose. The baristas were very sweet to my best-friend and I and they even gifted her a few birthday pastries -- so yummy thank you for that! My only issue is, it seems they close off the seating area starting at 11 am which kind of sucks because we would've loved to sit down and enjoy our coffee and pastries. We were told it would be closed for the majority of the day for the company that is in that building and that's just such a bummer for any other visitors or locals that just to sit and relax or do some work. This place is AMAZING. Their place is spacious and the interior design is really nice. Their baked goods are made fresh daily and it's served warm when you get there early when it opens. I love croissants in general so I got the ham and cheese, and chocolate. Wow. SO GOOD. I scarfed it down in minutes because each bite was delicious and irresistible. I could not stop eating it. It has a nice crunch on the outside, but the inside is airy, soft, and chewy. The chocolate croissant has chocolate filling inside and I love the chocolate stripes on the outside. The ham and cheese has some kind of sesame seeds on the outside of the croissant but it was a nice touch of seasoning. I'm gonna come back here again to try their other baked goods for sure. Good Ambler is one of those spots that gets me so pumped to write a review on yelp. Seriously, I haven't been to a coffee shop to chill and eat since quarantine started and this place just filled all the cafe sized holes in my heart. The space is just the absolute cutest with plenty of plants and vintage bundt pans in display cases (love). They have lots of booths, couches, and comfy chairs to sit on but they do get busy so be prepared to possibly stand or take your order to go. I was also blown away by the service. Our barista was so genuine and friendly it created an incredibly welcoming environment. He apologized for the current lack of seating (they're at limited capacity right now) and offered us one of their last standing tables. On top of that he was purposeful about checking if we needed simple syrup and/or extra plates for our baked goods. I could tell he actually cared about our experience and it just gives this place bonus stars in my mind. As for food, I ordered the house cold brew with oatmilk, a kouign-amman, and a chocolate croissant. The coffee was lovely with a balance of flavors and not too bitter-I loved the oatmilk with it. The chocolate croissant was also delicious-huge and with a crackly crust. It was a little on the salty side which I didn't love but no doubt it was a well made pastry. The kouign-amman, now that thing stole my heart. I am not exaggerating when I say it is the most delicious pastry I have ever eaten. Ever. Seriously, dense layers of pastry baked to a crisp on the top that slowly transition to this decadent gooey sweet layer on the bottom. Stumbled on this place while walking around the West Loop. The decor is cute/ trendy/ indoor garden feel so I just had to make a stop in. I really enjoyed my first visit to this place on a warm February Sunday morning in Chicago (40 degrees, but it's all relative). It was definitely impromptu since we arrived early for a later lunch reservation at Duck Duck Goat. Might as well grab a coffee while we wait, right? I ordered my classic vanilla latte with oat milk. Typically I request it extra hot but I forgot this time. Luckily it did not disappoint! Great cafe for studying or meeting up with your friend for a little coffee date! It was a bit hard to find seats, but my friend and I did find some place after 2 minutes of looking around. They do run out of some items so if there's a bakery item you want, go earlier or walk back to the register area to check back periodically since they do restock. I had a really good coffee cake and a matcha latte! My friend got the kougin amann and a cold brew with oat milk. Their baked goods aren't cheap, but you can tell they're fresh & they're actually pretty delicious. Would definitely be back if I'm in the West Loop or looking for a spacious cafe. read more
