The ambiance is relaxed, and the staff stays on top of everything without being overbearing. There's also a nice variety when it comes to both the food and drinks. This visit, I went with the Florentine Benedict, and it did not disappoint. The sauce was smooth and flavorful, and the poached egg was cooked perfectly. It tasted like really overdone cod and the crab coating just tasted like burnt flour base crust. This was a severe disappointment. I ordered asparagus on the side which was cooked the way they did in the 1950s to a point of mush and what was another severe disappointment. The chocolate bomb was absolutely delicious. Many brunch places do not do those nowadays, which I hate. Every brunch requires a coffee. I appreciate that they do lattes here, rather than just hot or iced coffees. They had some unique syrups, such as bourbon caramel and praline. The syrups were on the more subtle side, which some people prefer. I am not one of those people, but it was a good latte for a breakfast/ brunch spot. They offered to remake them, but I won't give an incompetent cook a second chance to screw it up. The other big offense in a kitchen is improperly seasoning the food. They have deviled eggs with bacon crumbles on top, but they whipped something really offensive into the egg yolk filling. It was gross. I'll try lunch or supper here, but with breakfast so horribly screwed up, it doesn't look promising. Service was excellent in spite of the revolting food.

They made what would be just basic fruit and eggs taste glorious. We had a few nice conversations with Holly, who had owned the B&B for about 3 years at the time. She told us a little bit about the history of the block and the B&B itself. It's a nice touch to have coffee delivered to the room each morning. Our room, the Dickenson, was a bit dusty when we first arrived. When we complained, it was quickly and mostly remedied. The weirdest part of the room, though, was that the bathroom had no real door - just a curtain. I just don't see why the door was excluded. That being said, the bathroom had a large jacuzzi, which I wish I had used more. It was a treat!

The house has been vandalized, sheltering homeless. There is almost no roof. Tarps are supposed to keep the interior sheltered from the weather, but they have fallen apart. The owners have done almost nothing. What was once a delightful place to stay is now a derelict.
