Very nice. 4.5 score. For the history buffs, or just a lover of presidential history you need to…read morevisit and take it in. We visited on a chilly February evening and all the fireplaces were in use. I love it when there is a fire, the aroma just adds to the ambience. We had the Bruschetta, which was quite marvelous. Very tasty. There is a wine list, but it used to be better. A bunch of lower tier options, with a smattering of maybe 4 quality bottles. We did order a bottle of the house red, and it is sweet, flat, and heavy. My wife gave up on her glass and got a house Cab Sauv, which wasn't much better. We should have gone with the Stag's Leap Cab like she wanted. Dinner was the Filet Mignon and the Steak and Cake. The Filet was excellent and the Maryland Crab Cake was delicious. The Steak with the crab was good, but underwhelming. Desert was a strawberry chocolate cake. It was good. Overall. Great place, great ambiance, good waitress, and good food. Final price was @$217 plan accordingly. That said, we planned and were looking forward to splurging. Yes, I should have splurged more for the better wine too We will be back.

Ambiance and history alone are 5 stars, the food is the cherry on top. Been wanting to eat here…read moresince I first found it like 20 years ago, but being so far away and dinner being kind of pricey it always just stayed in the back of my mind. Well we had the occasion, wife's bday, and we bit the bullet and made the trip. There's no easy way to get to Hanoverton, so there's that. But once you make it there, the area right around the restaurant transports you back into the 1800s. Much history on that street and inside the restaurant. Take some time to look around each room and the basement too. The service was top notch. Being a party of 8, we got the private dining in the Taft room. They were all over it and did great in taking care of us. The food is not cheap, but it is good. The deviled eggs with salmon, the bruschetta, the onion soup. Chefs kiss. The menu online is somewhat different than in-house, but that was ok. My wife had pierogis and someone else had the beef Wellington and they both loved it. Can't remember everything everyone had. I had what was basically a pot pie, but with bison. Much to my stomachs chagrin I ate the whole thing and was beyond stuffed. We will definitely be back. I recommend reservations if you're coming after 3pm. Something about that place with the smell of the fireplaces wafting thru the building....
