Good luck is such an amazing Rochester restaurant and bar! They're currently renovating the outdoor garden seating, which I'm sure will be finished by summer. The inside is really spacious, including the bar area. I've previously had the burger here and it was incredible - all the food here is meant to be shared, hence the higher prices and much larger portions. I'd love to come back with a large group of friends and order a lot from the menu to share! Their drink menu is also really innovative and the drinks are quite strong. For $85.00 per person and $500.00 minimum we expected special dishes - not dishes that we could just have ordered off of the menu! Unfortunately, very mixed feelings on this restaurant. I'll get the good out of the way first, because its simple and important. The food and drink here are excellent. In two visits I have had the Smokehouse Duck, The Steak, and French Fries. The variety of the duck platter is wonderful, flavorful and tender. The steak is absolutely delicious. A tender, well cooked and seasoned ribeye. (Assumedly) homemade fries are crispy and plentiful. That's where the good comes to an end. I have dined here solo (work travel) twice now. My first time here, several months ago, I walked in and was told I could sit at the bar or a high top and a bartender would be over to serve me. I waited close to 20 minutes at the table before even being approached by anyone. A long time, a pretty big deal, but one offs happen....right? Wrong. Tonight (1/12) was the same situation. I walked in, was told I could sit at a high top and someone would be right over, and I sat and waited for around 15-20 minutes until someone approached me. When the server finally came over I knew what I wanted to order: A drink, an order of fries, and 'The Steak.' Here is where, after the meal, I learned I made another mistake. 'The Steak' is a menu option for two people. It is $100, which I only learned when I got the check (listed as MP, however when the next highest item on the menu is $35 I generally wouldn't expect it to be any higher than $45-$60). My fries came out and I was informed that the Steak would be out shortly. After 15 minutes of munching on fries filling up (c'mon, I've been here for almost an hour now) my steak finally came out. Nowhere on the menu does it state this is a meal for two (or three), but it comes served on a large platter, probably closing in on 30oz, with serving tongs. The waitress looked at me, not a large person at all, sitting there...alone, and didn't at all think to inform me that I was ordering a $100 meal for two AND a side? It's just dreadful service overall. I'll be real, I have no issues paying a good amount for a nice meal, and as stated earlier the steak was delicious, but the fact that I had no idea, no way of knowing, and no assistance from staff leaves me frustrated. I could have gone to a high end steakhouse in Rochester and gotten excellent ambiance and service paired with a great steak for less money, all while knowing what I was getting myself into. I really, really want to give more stars and enjoy Good Luck. Everything is delicious, but the poor service has left me wanting, and let down. It has been at least five years since I was here last. The atmosphere was familiar. The bar area was overcrowded with people trying to get a drink while waiting for a table. The wait was 20-30 min, so we decided to join the crowd at the bar. It took several attempts to get the attention of the bartender. He seemed overwhelmed and a bit annoyed, but smiled. He took my credit card, but never returned, after several attempts to get his attention, we finally returned with my card. After about 30 minutes, we were directed to our table for dinner. The table was near the beverage station, which meant that we had servers throughout the night passing by our table. It was noisy, which made the experience unpleasant. It felt as if we had to yell to each other just to have a conversation. The food was average at best and a disappointment, but the service made up for it. Overall the experience was average, which was a disappointment. Our first experience here was fantastic, so we were expecting the same kind of experience. When we arrived home, I realized that the bartender gave me the wrong credit card, so I had to go back to the restaurant to get my card, which was annoying , but hey, everyone makes mistakes. We came here at the recommendation of my cousin, who lives in the area. Very trendy decor inside with worn, repurposed antiques & distressed painted beams all the rage right now. It reminded me a bit of some venues in NY or DC. We were seated immediately and began reviewing the menu, which is served in portions meant to be shared. After ordering a carafe of their summer sangria, we settled on the Bibb lettuce salad with blue cheese and chick peas (delish) and the 1 pound burger, which arrived on a wood block, cut into 4 reasonable pieces, a massive pile of shoestring fries, homemade slaw and aged cheddar on the side. Good Luck has many attributes which is the reason for popularity in Rochester. Staff is friendly, knowledgeable, professional without being pretentious. Atmosphere for dining is casual with a family serving style. Meals are to be shared among others at your table and arrived as prepared. Meals ordered arrived at different times, which was not a problem for my guests. We were extremely pleased the kitchen was open till 11 pm with a bar food menu later. Rochester has few late upscale dining establishments and Good Luck did not disappoint. We ordered pizza, grilled cauliflower, salads and other. Each meal was fresh, well seasoned and flavorful. Seating was spacious with a eclectic country chic style. The bar loud and packed with attractive single and eager appearing individuals. This place is not for me. Could be for you, though. I don't mind paying $10 for a drink... but, a good drink. Some of the glasses they use are tiny. It takes 3 or 4 sips to drink it all. My black cat tea was decent, but the happy hour drink was not worth 7 dollars. My bf ordered a johnny black and asked for a larger glass and the bartender happily did so. He makes some nice drinks. I also ordered the happy hour snack which is basically a large mozzarella stick with basil and tomato. $8. Too much breading, not enough of the filling. Over the years I have eaten at Good Luck numerous times: just me eating a late dinner (usually the burger or a pizza), on dates with my hubby, entertaining out of town guests (this is always great - everyone shares everything as it comes out), parties for special occasions, New Year's Eve dinner and drinks (prix fixe) , and most recently, a couple of the Chef's Table dinners. Every experience has been perfection. If you have read some of the other reviews here, they really say it all: great service, amazing food, a bit on the loud side (and pricey side), but excellent value for the overall food quality and experience. This review though is to focus on my Chef's Table dinner experiences. Back in May I attended one of the first Chef's Table dinners for the 'summer' season. It had been promoted among those of us who have eaten at some of the Good Luck special events in the past, via email, and the menu was a total tease: five ingredients listed with no details or explanation. One of those ingredients was morel mushrooms. It reminded me of a special dinner my husband and I attended years ago at Good Luck, where they featured wild ingredients foraged in nature (ramps, nettles, fiddleheads, etc), coupled with delicious wines from Ravines winery. I secretly hoped for a re-do of that menu, but knew whatever we were served would be great. On that evening, we received an amuse bouche of roasted broccoli with miso and something like a chili oil and fried shallots. It was delicious. The first course was asparagus with a hollandaise sauce with chives and a parmesan crisp. Divine. The second course was house-made beet cavatelli with spruce tips, morel mushrooms and a cream sauce. Easily one of the most amazing, unique and mind blowing dishes I've ever eaten. The third course was a piece of white fish, broiled, with several sauces on the plate and a squid-ink reduction. Fantastic. The fourth course was a piece of roasted lamb, cooked to perfection, with crispy potato strings and a trio of sauces all made from different peppers. The final course was a fruit crisp made with rhubarb and house-made vanilla gelato. The perfect ending. For me, the timing of the courses, the size of each plate, everything was special, and I ended the night feeling totally sated. And really, kind of in love with the chef. I attended another Chef's Table this past weekend. I went with a friend who had never been to Good Luck before, who was celebrating a birthday. At our table were 4 other parties, for a total of 13 people. Another fantastic experience. Right now, at this time of year, the tease was 'kale - cauliflower - tomato - squash - plum'. There was no amuse bouche, but each course was as beautiful as it was delicious. The first course was a baby kale salad with pickled blueberries (holy yum) and onions and something like feta or goat cheese. The second course was cauliflower done 3 ways: a cauliflower parmesan cream, a cauliflower-golden raisin sauce, and roasted cauliflower complimented with roasted peppers and pine nuts. The third course was house-made orecchiette with a tomato sauce - they called it a confit, but that's not really accurate since tomatoes have no fat - none the less it was a delight. The fourth course was a piece of roasted arctic char (a kind of salmon) with summer squash and pureed acorn squash - sort of summer and fall on the plate. The char was out of this world! And the final course was a dessert made with plums and served with vanilla gelato and some kind of crisp. I don't actually know what you would call it, but it was sweet and tart and hot and cold, and really amazing. The Chef's Table dinners cost $65 per person, with an optional add-on wine menu, with wines paired with each course (yes - each course - for a total of 5 wines....). The dinners are served Wed, Thurs, Fri and Sat nights, and start at 7 pm. The table fits up to 14 people; reservations are required, and they always fill the table. Expect to be there at least 2.5 hours. And get there early if you can, so you can get your pick of the seating and grab a drink at the bar before. Also, the dinners take place in the section of the restaurant just next to the kitchen, sort of 'in the back' - there's a large table there and because you are off to the side of the kitchen, it is a little less noisy, so you can have good conversation with the other diners - all likely to be foodies! read more

I love Good Luck ... I have been coming here for over 9 years. It's always amazing ... by far my favorite spot in the Roc.The dine-in experience has always been stellar. Since COVID I have been getting curb side take out every few weeks ... It's awesome! Fried-Chicken is my stand by take out dish (everything else has been fabulous as well - I usually also get a pizza, pasta or salad - all equally good). I always get the vanilla ice-cream ... which I adore, like more than words can say. Tonight I went to Pasta Bunny in the Jack Rabbit Club (Good Luck's event space that turns into an osteria on off nights). Everything was excellent ... from the service to the space to food/drinks. Honestly, one of the best dining experiences I have had in a long time! And very COVID safe - tables were very far apart, all employees (hosts, servers, chefs, bartenders) had gloves & masks. The space was incredibly clean (including the restroom). We had both salads which were so fresh & delicious, the conttenna (eggplant & pork), the gnocchi, the pastitsio, and I had this yummy drink called the sparkler (I think that was the name - but it had pineapple, processo, elderflower & vodka ... so good!). I am an admitted food snob ... I lived in Boston & Providence - two cities with so many great places - and travelled a bit ... but Good Luck is still one of my all time favorites! One of our favorite places to eat! I Went back tonight for a date night with the hubs, the items we got did not disappointment. I ordered the la martina, great cocktail! For food, we got the broccoli salad, Sicilian style pizza, and pork shank. The dessert we got was a meringue with chocolate in a graham cracker crust. Good Luck is a Rochester staple when it comes to dining out! They have so many great food choices, and I recommend ordering many things and sharing them all! The obvious choice here is the burger. Get it with one person and split it or get it with a couple of other things and share with multiple friends. All of the food here is amazing and you cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. Try any specials they have as well, because they may not be there the next time you go but they are always scrumptious. The atmosphere makes you feel that you are in a time warp of sorts in the best way. It's almost country war time meets city slicker. Good luck! That's something you'll need to get a table at this place. Only open Wednesday through Saturday evenings, this place can get packed fast whenever it *is* open. If you ever plan to go on the weekends, the employees/hostess recommend to book a reservation a week in advance, especially if it's a party greater than 2-3 people. Otherwise, you'll be sent to the bar to wait (could be up to 1.5 hours depending in the night/time you do in) or can grab a table behind the bar - first come first serve! That being said, the food and drinks are why I come back to Good Luck. The first time I came here was to celebrate my birthday, and the other times since them have been for after work or late night drinks and snacks. After midnight, there's a second, smaller menu with reduced options, but all are from the main menu. Now, food. The first thing you want to remember is that the food is made to be eaten family style. So most dishes will seem huge! The first thing I want to talk about are the fries. Heave help me I could eat an entire plate of fries in one sitting. Other people in the party? I guess I'll share... Honestly, the fries are great! Cut thin with just enough potato on the inside, this is the perfect fry. Want it even better? Can that be? Yes! Ask for the awesome Good Luck sauce. Yessss! Amazing addition in the fries. They'll give you a bottle. Try not to use it all! ;) The side order of fries is $9, which sounds like a lot, but it's presented as a sharable size that is much more than 3 large McDonald's fries (which would be about the same price!). The food itself is great. My birthday dinner included a special: duck leg with potatoes. This didn't stay on the menu, but it was good. Potatoes were close to chip style, but not as thin and crispy. The duck was well seasoned and well complimented by the potatoes. The other dinner option I tried was the steak. Who can resist a giant rib eye?! This steak was cooked rare/medium rare and very well seasoned. I will say, there were some silver string in it, which says something about the butchering of the meat. My boyfriend loved the steak and somehow ended up with the pieces that didn't have any silver string so it wasn't a big deal for him. Since it was just a few pieces, it's not a focus, but something I figured I'd mention. Last thing I'll add is about the pizza/flatbreads. I've tried the white pizza and the Margherita pizza, and both are great! The white comes with a meat that tastes like pepperoni, and is a bit salty with the meats and parm, but it's a good salt. Not kill-my-taste-buds salty. The Margherita pizza is as sounds. Not salty at all and a good balance of cheese and tomatoes. Yum! Ok finally - the drinks! Every time I've come, I've had a different drink, and not a single drink has been bad! I will say one of the best things about being sent to the bar is that if you snag a good bartender (which is most of them), they can make you a random drink based on your taste. I love a good mixologist who can just think of something for you! They'll do this on a busy night too, so don't worry if you want decide what you want! Go for the fries, stay for a drink! We had a great dinner at Good Luck last Saturday night, our first time there. We met up with friends at the bar before dinner and the bartender helped us find the right drink for our tastes(I got a Moscow Mule and loved it). Once at our table, our friends and the server explained the sharing concept, and we ordered a variety of dishes. I am not usually a "sharer" but I really loved how the food and sharing it was an integral part of our evening. It was fun. Plus, the food was incredible! I'm definitely glad we went to Good Luck with friends. It gave us the opportunity to try more dishes. I'm told the menu changes a few times a year, so each time you go it's a little different. The food here was really freaking good. We came here for my older brothers 30th birthday and he couldn't have chose a better place to come to. This happened two weeks ago but I forgot the name of the items that we had haha so I apologize for that. But we had a huge steak, burger, fries, which came in a hugggeeeee bunch, we had some type of tequila shots that were very strong as well. If you are looking forward to coming here just know your going to be looking at $60 pp, and for soft drinks I don't believe they do free refills but don't quote me on that lol. Also, this wouldn't be a good post if I didn't shout out our server JJ. He came in with a smile, great energy and positive vibes and maintained that same enthusiasm the whole entire time, so thanks JJ for the amazing service and being very informative about the entire menu from top to bottom. Everything about Good Luck is so right, the ambiance, the mood, some of the service (I'll touch on in the next few sentences), and the food! The food was perfect in every way. My date had the special of the night which was beef heart sauce and rigatoni, it seemed like an ode to pasta bolognese, but fancier yet so very good with the perfect balance of acidity and saltiness. My date is Italian and anytime we order an Italian dish he always picks it apart--not this time. I, on the other hand, opted for the seared salmon and oh my word!! The best salmon I've had in Rochester. EVER. The bed of white bean ragú it sat on was beyond fantastic, the salmon was perfectly cooked. If you are a savory lover then this dish is for you. Now to the service, the one reason I didn't give it five stars. We had reservations so we were sat in a sort of holding table by the bar until our table was ready which was fine, we were still attended to and someone handed us a menu and water and one of the bartenders came over and took our drink order, then we sat at our table and ordered. The downside was that my date's entree came out very quickly, probably within 15 minutes, but mine didn't come out until he was about 90% done with his meal. It was a good 30 minutes before my food came out. I'm used to eating together, not at separate times. Also, my waitress didn't really check up on us, I had to ask two different waiters on two different occasions for assistance which I hate to do because I know they have their own patrons to tend to. All in all, the service will not deter me from ever dining here again. It is without a doubt one of my top three favorite restaurants in Rochester. read more

Very interesting place. Used to be a textile/fabric factory back in the old manufacturing days, so you have the typical red brick factory exterior and high ceiling minimalist interior. Very noisy, large bar where you can watch the kitchen in action. One large seating area and a small VIP type area on a riser and a back room for a private group type setting. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly, not at all pushy or rushy. Food was well prepared and large enough to share, which is encouraged. The burger and fries, which seemed to be popular was huge! Definitely can feed 2-3. My crab dish was a special. Glad I selected this one, blended the crab cake with scallions and other ingredients- almost a pancake type dish with some salad covering, wintering to say the least but very tasty and filling. No need for dessert after this meal. Call for reservations, not sure you can walk in. Small parking lot but additional parking right across the street. read more

Had dinner here with some friends, loved it. We were able to stay and eat and chat for hours and weren't rushed at all. We started with the red lentil appetizer and french fries- definitely would recommend the red lentil appetizer; its sweet, creamy and delicious. you will want to order more than one of these! the french fries were fine...hard to mess up. I split two entrees between a friend and myself, both of them specials. Date night with the honey! Stopped into Good Luck! And it's always a treat. Scored a great spot at the bar, o it had to wait a couple minutes for the seats. It was a hopping Saturday night, the dining room and bar packed. Bar service was excellent as always. For drinks I got the La Escopeta, the perfect sweet and spicy. He got a Manhattan for the special list. The TGiN using a solid cube of ice. "Best Manhattans in the city", is what he tells me. For dinner, I really had to do some arm pulling. He was convinced we were going to be the burger. No, I wanted to do something different. We got the Roasted Japanese Sweet Potatoes. Omgoodness!!!! Wow. All the different flavors. I don't even know if I can put it writing. The sweet from the potatoes, the dill from the pickled radish, the miso glaze. It was pure harmony in my mouth. Next we were in between the fried chicken or the smokehouse duck. We chose the Duck! Let me tell you... AMAZING!! It came with all different yummies. The smoked duck breast had the perfect flavor of smokiness, the duck sausage was melt in your mouth and juicy. The Apple bbq sauce was a great pairing. And we all know I love all things pickle! What a trendy up scale restaurant. It's located in the arts area around the corner from SOTA and art gallery. Small menu but great tasty options. Ambiance is nice but very loud. We shared the Sicilian pizza made with house chorizo, pickled peaches,arugula, whipped ricotta,balsamic yum! All the menu items are to share . You'll need 3 friends to help you eat the 1 lb burger and mountain of fries omg! Don't get dressed up it's very casual here, check out this salad with green goddess dressing, roasted corn, red onion etc!
