Great taster ' s. Could barely decide between the blonde and the cider Pleasant staff and relaxing outdoor seating. On a very warm day the indoor air conditioning my be very welcome. Menu is inviting, a little something for everyone. Five Pint of Fries sauce option. But I went for the Smith Greens, dried cherries, sunflower seeds, croutons and an apple cider vinagrette. Came with some Colgate Alumni and half the group was refused service because they did not have two forms of ID. The whole group was from out of state and two forms of ID was needed if you where from out of state. It was not listed anywhere that was a requirement. Should add to website in future. Also bartender servicing the group was very rude when we asked more questions about the policy. read more

Great local brews. I love the atmosphere and BYOF (Bring Your Own Food) set-up. I actually just carried down a plate of food from my apartment one day. Another plus is that it's probably the most "mature" crowd in Hamilton (well besides the Colgate Inn). They've ensured this older and exclusively legal drinking crowd by checking 'GateCards as well as IDs. So seniors can feel comfortable talking about job searches and professors can meet up with friends without seeing any drunken freshman running for the restroom. HUGE plus. Also, if you aren't a beer drinker, the ciders are awesome. read more

First off, the staff is super friendly and the service was great. The location and space are really nice. However...something weird is going on with the beer. We have enjoyed Good Nature beers for years but this time we did not. We ordered pints and a flight just to be sure but they all seemed thin and lacked the flavor we remember. Some also were under-carbonated. Very disappointing. As for the food, a burger special was good but the margarita pizza came out with the bottom totally burned. The staff was very apologetic and brought out another prepared properly. Nevertheless, it was only ok. Truly hope this just an off day as we love to patronize local breweries. read more

Great beer and great place to chat with locals and other faculty as well as parents of some of the students. They don't serve food but are cool with you bringing in food from anywhere around and many places will even deliver. The have great events like regular music. As for beer they offer several great year-round beers but also churn the list of offerings with revolving seasonal and specials listings. The place isn't perfect and there are some changes I would love to see from management, but Hamilton would definitely be a much worse place without it. read more

SERVICE WAS POOR. FOOD WAS JUST OK. YES - we visited over a big visiting weekend at Colgate. Buuuut -- this weekend is a known entity on the calendar and Good Nature was woefully unprepared for the numbers. When we finally went looking for dinner after AN HOUR of waiting, we were told that the order slip fell off of our meal and rather than come looking for some hungry patrons, they just put it in a warming area and waited for someone to come looking... Given that by then it was 9:30 p.m. my party was *really* hungry. There was not even a mention of comping the "lost" meal. Really disappointing and unprofessional. And YES - it's a brewery but if you're going to serve wine, then please *serve* wine!! A splash of wine (approx 2 oz) in the bottom of a plastic cup does not a glass of wine make. I was rebuffed when I commented that the pour was a little shallow... Maybe the business model is based on families of Colgate students and so they aren't working on building long-term relationships -- I'm not sure how else to account for the "service" at Good Nature. As a 'gate graduate myself, I wanted to like them so much and support this local business... but I won't be back. read more

Not a huge beer person, but my boyfriend is. They're great about letting you taste the beer, and they seem to have a great selection. I like that they have cider on tap, and I enjoy the ambiance. It's nice to stop in here, and have a drink. The tap room is different than their farm brewery. The farm brewery is down the road, and serves food. The tap room (8 broad street), is literally just a tap room. They don't serve food here. New country-style restaurant/craft brew place in an airy contemporary style. Good selection of craft beers. Attractive open-area bar. Limited menu of salads, house burger, flat breads, fries, soup. The fries are mediocre. Our charcuterie plate was skimpy and overpriced, featuring tiny portions of ordinary cold cuts and cheeses. The Tap room is a great addition to the small college town of Hamilton, NY. Started and run by two Colgate graduates, Good Nature Brewing makes and serves a dozen or so fresh beers. They use local hops and the beer is fresh and tasty. The prices for beers are surprisingly low given the high quality and small nature of the brewery itself. The Tap Room is a friendly, welcoming and laid back atmosphere. They have live music some nights and an old fashion record turntable and LPs for afternoons. No food is served so you can order food from the nearby restaurants and eat it at the Tap room. Bottom line - inexpensive, fresh locally made beer and a friendly atmosphere. Lots of fun. read more

Visited on Father's Day, 2018. They had a lot of customers and were totally unprepared to feed them. We waited over an hour for our order. In addition, they ran out of food and made substitutions with whatever they had just to fulfill the order. The food was marginal, at best. If you want to drink, go here. I don't even like beer (unpopular opinion I know) but I love this place! My husband is a beer lover so we stopped in here on a weekend trip up from NYC, before we had dinner nearby. Everyone was very friendly and it was evident that they all care about the beer they're selling, how it's made, and how much you enjoy it. They offered us many tastings, and even helped me select a nice hard cider. It's great seeing a spot dedicated to and supportive of locally made products. read more

Great beers. There was live music when I went. It was a little too loud, but the music was good. They also have board games and such that my friends and I played while we drank our beers. The beer is excellent and the customer service from most was also good. However, as we sat and tasted our beer which then led into full size glasses and a bite to eat I almost got sick to my stomach. The kitchen was very poorly staffed with people who were not following any basic sanitation. No one was wearing gloves. The men all had long beards and hair which they kept playing with just before touching clean dishes and food. I watched one guy take raw bacon and frozen fries then without washing or wiping his hands plate a grilled cheese sandwich. I was so disgusted I don't think I can ever eat here. I will however stop by for some beer as it is one of the best craft brewers in the area. read more

What a lovely surprise to find this tap room! My husband and I went to the Hamilton Farmer's Market for the first time and saw this place next to the green. We stopped in and quickly fell in love with it. The staff was incredibly friendly and the beer delicious. We tried a flight and then had a pint each. We couldn't resist and left with a growler in hand. This place is definitely going to be on the tour for our out-of-town friends that come visit us. On a side note, we stopped in at noon on a Saturday. I would imagine the feel of the place changes dramatically when filled with Colgate students in the evening. I plan to stick to day-drinking...responsible day-drinking, of course. read more

The bartenders have always been friendly and I find the taproom an entirely pleasant spot. I tend to stop in during daylight hours, so I don't have a sense of what the evening dynamic is like. The beer here is unreal. Could spend all day here trying them all. Pretty cheap growlers and fills, too.

Frankly the beer is ok but you can find better out there. The owners and servers can be nice but the place in general has a sense of entitlement much like the students at the nearby Colgate University. If this wasn't the only game in town it wouldn't exist. No appreciation for repeat business. No attempt to make your experience better. They're they one-eyed man in the land of the blind. They think they're way better than they are and as a result they'll never try to be better. read more

I'd give zero stars if that were an option. My husband has gone to Good Nature Brewing many times when we have visited our children at Colgate over the years. The last time he went we discovered one of the growlers we purchased was cracked along a seam and had leaked all over the clothing we had wrapped it in (new purchases from the Colgate Book Store that we were giving as gifts). When we returned a bartender gave us a voucher for a new growler ($18 value) and apologized, but asked us to return the next day to speak with the owner. We did, and the owner, Carrie Blackmore, said she had heard the story but refused to reimburse us because she had no idea if we had cracked the growler. We tried to explain that we had wrapped them all safely and had taken many home previously without incident, but she insisted her growlers were strong and we must have done something wrong, and she would not reimburse us for something that was not her fault. However, she said that her bartender left us the money and emphasized that he, not she, was reimbursing us for the growler. We refused the money and left a used growler that we were planning to fill since we will not be returning. We have never experienced such aggressively rude customer service--total opposite of other establishments in Hamilton, NY. read more
