I got the rib combo plate and the ribs were perfectly cooked and the sides were good too, I think the prices are reasonable for what you get. I just love this place and have gone since they first opened. They have a large menu and everything that they do is great. I ordered something to go the other night and she said that they were out of brisket, so I ordered another meat. Well, they had some brisket left and included it with my to go order ! The food was great. The pork ribs, brisket and pork belly appetizer were mouthwatering! I agree with all of the other reviews- fries & coleslaw could use some fine tuning. Loved the added touches of pickled veggies & branded bun. Very friendly service - over accommodating in alignment with most new businesses. I can see this being a popular lunch spot but for $100 for 3 reg & 1 kids meal the decor was unappetizing, most locals are looking for the "full dining out package" The bathrooms on either side in the center were challenging - I could see them & smell them from Most every booth (intense disinfectant), my 7 year old son commented how bad it smelled. In general, it seemed dirty, un wiped tables, dirty napkins left under the booths, cobwebs in the back corner booth. TVs not spaced out & made for difficult acoustics. Chalk board wall a nice touch but the use of an interior designer & constant bus service would've been just what they needed to match their food quality. Take out for us if there is a next time! Also- plastic knives with tri tip is challenging! No forks served with bbq sauce covered pork belly appetizer is a bit harsh. Well, I made it back to try out Goodland BBQ after initially being vibed. I can say wholeheartedly that it is "good". I so wanted it to be great but bbq greatness is not easily achieved. I will say this though...a bbq restaurant that you will pay over 30 bucks for a lunch should be a bit better or a bit less expensive. The workers are not rude but they're not exactly nice either...kind of like Jack in the Box workers. One worker was taking her break in a booth and cussing up a storm about her love life (? okay ?). The place is clean enough but not spotless. The food (chicken, pork belly, potato salad, beans) was enjoyable but not noteworthy. I'm not sure if I will be back or not. There are not many bbq joints in the area so probably. I DO kind of like my $30 lunches to be served on a plate with silverware not on paper on a tray with plasticware. I've been waiting for this spot to open for a while now. My main residence is in Bakersfield and we have a weekend spot here in Goleta. The last BBQ spot was down a way on Hollister called Woody's. Guess it was here for a long time but gotta say I never liked it. Goodland BBQ is very close to our spot and today was my first chance to try it. I ordered the 3 meat combo of Hot Link Beef ribs and Tri-tip. Sides I ordered chili beans the mac and cheese and macaroni salad. First the good things. 1) The macaroni salad was amazing! Mayo based with crunchy celery. 2) The macaroni and cheese also very good. Tastes like maybe they smoke it? 3) Chili beans were meaty and very tasty. 4) Salsa was really good not too spicy but great with the Tri-tip. 5) The Garlic toast was buttery and crisp and moist. Loved it! 6) Hot link was mild but huge and good flavor. Ok now the things I feel they need work on. Tri-tip was very tough and chewy. The way it was done very well done means they smoked it which is fine. I prefer mid rare Santa Maria style. When it's smoked it should way more tender. But with the salsa and BBQ sauce it was ok. Beef Ribs my personal favorite bbq! I commend them for even having them on the menu quite a few BBQ joints shy away and just have them on special every now and then. The rib they gave me was quite dry but had good flavor. I'll try again. Took my order to go the lady that took my order was quite pleasant and capable. This is a great new bbq place in Goleta!! Our family has had all of the meats, the beans, salads, and we give it thumbs up across the board. It is bbq and meat heavy so it cost a bit more, but in line with what you would expect to pay for these meat selections. We have had great experiences with the staff. It is very family friendly and there are big portions so younger kids could even split a plate. read more

Not a great value for the money. i got a one meat plate and got a single rib. Plus i had to pay extra to get fries with that. On top of the high prices for the amount of meat, they charge an additional 3% for using a credit card. i think they're charging enough for the food they don't have to add on. i don't need to go here again. read more

The chicken was very raw I took it back and the owner was not happy about it the garlic bread was not garlic bread it was just bread also tasteless. Just had dinner there for the first time, and wow, just wow! If you love pork ribs--and pork ribs are how I judge a barbeque place-- Goodland puts out big, tender, moist, succulent ribs with a tad of char, so good that it is hard to stop eating! There are a number of sides to choose from, and we got delicately toasted garlic bread, macaroni salad with good mayo and a nice celery crunch, and (my favorite) creamy potato salad with chopped egg. Been here twice since it opened. Both late so they were out of things. And still had a line. But I kinda expected that since they just opened up. So we have tried the tritip, chicken, brisket, and pork ribs. All have been really good. Staff was friendly and got our food promptly considering they are swamped. I stopped by for some takeout during their first week of operations. To expect a business to have it all figured out in week 1 or even month 1 is ludicrous. Stuff goes wrong. For me, their payment system went down (had to pay cash) and some of their dishes lacked salt. That being said, there is huge promise. Let's start with the tritip. I never order tritip when I go out because I think I make it better than anyone out there. My mom, who was visiting for the week, wanted tritip, so that's what she got. I tried a bite and it blew me away. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The smokiness was not overwhelming. Easily the best cut of meat we had. The next was the brisket. My mom said "I don't know what all the rage is about brisket. It's always dry and flavorless." I told her she has never had good brisket. She claimed she had eaten at all the best BBQ spots and it always disappoints. So I got the brisket and it was "melt in your mouth" delicious! Just the way it should be and just the way she has never had it before. She agreed. The one problem was that it lacked salt - completely lacked salt. Once I added some salt, the meat popped! You cannot have brisket as tender as that one and intentionally leave out the salt, so this must have been an oversite. Beef ribs were flavorful and fell right off the bone. Pork ribs were a little dry but still tasted good. I didn't care for the pork belly bites. I thought they would be tender, but they were not. Again, possibly something that will be fixed in the near future. For the sides, I tried the beans (which have meat), garlic bread, and potatoes salad. The beans and potato salad needed more salt, but were otherwise delicious. Garlic bread was good. No complaints there. The bottom line here is that they know what they are doing as far as BBQ goes. Scaling that up to a restaurant is going to take time. I suggest giving them a month or two to get their footing, then evaluating them based on that. Glad to have a BBQ spot in the Goodland (Woody's doesn't count). read more

BBQ is meat + fire and somehow they seemed to mess it up. Obviously I'm being harsh but the brisket, which should be the centerpiece of any American BBQ restaurant, was the most heinous slab of meat I had ever had. Dry, crumbly, and a bit more dry. The brisket singlehanded ruined my experience. Other than that the ribs were not tender enough, the tri tip was lukewarm verging on cold, the beef ribs were essentially jerky, and the pulled pork was the equivalent of the pork served in school cafeterias. We ordered take-out tonight and my hubby and I each gave our meals a 10 out of 10. The brisket, tri tip and cornbread were especially delicious. Sundays is a great day to go because parking is easier on Hollister since none of the other businesses are open. Otherwise, open parking is in the back which is fine too. Highly recommend.
