We like coming here and enjoying the garden dining with guitarist. I was happy with my dinner of pollo Valdostana. It was enormous and tasty. I took half home. My husband had the Orecchioni. He is harder to please and said it was just ok. We also shared the Melanzane Parmigiana and enjoyed it very much. Make sure to make a reservation. The interior is very small but garden a great place to enjoy. We like seeing the home made pasta being prepared in the side window at the entrance. Remember, reservations are essential unless you want to eat later and take your chances that something opens up.
What a charming Italian restaurant right in the heart of Mendocino. It's approached down a long path through a seemingly secret garden. What a pleasant way to approach a culinary experience. The restaurant has lots of charm. As you approach the front door there's a window into the kitchen where they are making the home made pasta. This definitely sets the tone. The dining area is cozy and has a 'woodsy' ambiance with nice decorative touches, an upstairs mezzanine and a beautiful garden deck/patio out back for dining too. The staff are super friendly and one feels as though you're eating in someone's friends home. The menu has many excellent dishes, primarily pastas. This is northern Italian cuisine so don't expect a lot of red sauces. The soup, a pasta fagioli, seemed interesting so I had a bowl and selected the Penne alla Boscaiola with onion, mushrooms, sausage and a cream sauce. I found the soup a bit underwhelming compared to some hearty types I've had in the past. It seemed to lack the strong richness and the beans were somewhat mushy. It wasn't bad, just different for me. The Penne, however, was a knockout. I haven't had that good a pasta dish in years. All the flavors were spot on and the ingredients perfectly proportioned and melded together. The sauce didn't overwhelm the dish and coated the pasta perfectly. I couldn't have been happier. The pasta here is obviously top notch and I'd love to try many more dishes. I doubt you can go wrong.
Romantic restaurant that will satisfy any occasion. The experience is great from start to finish. The starter bread is incredible. The calamari is also very fresh and tender. And all the dishes we ordered were a hit. I loved our waiter. He was very friendly and told some hilarious stories. Luna was an awesome experience.
On our trip to Mendocino, we celebrated our anniversary at Luna. We sat inside, upstairs, but the patio seating looked so nice as well with the string lights. We both enjoyed our carbonara and vodka penne pastas. We topped off the night with cannolis.
We had such a great experience at Luna. We went on a Wednesday night with no reservation and were able to get two seats at the bar immediately. There was also no wait for food, which was a nice surprise. Everything we had was amazing. The pomodoro sauce was made in-house and was absolutely delicious. The cod fish was locally sourced, and all of the ingredients tasted so fresh, which really made the meal stand out. Some of the best food we've had in Mendocino. Our server was also very knowledgeable about everything on the menu, and everyone was so kind throughout the night. The garden outside was very beautiful. You must try the flan! It was absolutely great!
One of the best restaurants in Mendocino. You definitely will want a reservation for this place otherwise the likelihood of you eating here is slim if you are dropping in on the day of. They have a nice patio / backyard area if you want to dine outside.
We arrived without reservations, hoping to sit at the bar, albeit 6 seats, and found the bar full. The hostess worked with her boss and sat our party of 2. The staff were kind, courteous and went above and beyond to accommodate us. The food, as always, impeccable. If you like dining outside, there are heaters and the grounds are lovely. Inside, chatting with each other was done without effort. Music softly playing, it was a nice meal. Prices are typical Mendo. Italian done well.
They had a lot of seating, but if you don't have a reservation it's hard to get a table without a wait. For a table of 2 we walked in and had 1 party wait in front of us, which still took 30ish min to be seated. The outdoor seating is beautiful with the lighting, but the indoors was quaint as well. The waiters are extremely nice and sociable, makes you feel like family. Great spot for a date night! 5/5 Complimentary focaccia was soft and fluffy. They had different ones, like rosemary, plain, and the pizza. The pizza one was easily the best, especially if it just came out of the oven. You can definitely ask for more and they are happy to bring you some! 4/5 Melanzane parmigiana was a nice eggplant parm in a smaller appetizer form. Don't let the size fool you, it's pretty filling. I would have wished for a bit more sauce and the eggplant a bit more seasoned, but it was definitely a great dish. There were parts where the batter was a bit soggy. 4/5 Cappellacci Verdi alla Zucca was a solid dish. The butter and sage sauce was simple and allows the pasta to shine, with the squash not being too strong. I think if it was stronger in flavor, it might have shined a bit more. 5/5 Spaghetti al Pesto Genovese is easily the best dish. The pesto flavor was strong and seasoned well. If you come here, this is the one to get! 4/5 Creme Brulee was nice, great exterior with the right sweetness. Felt a little too firm on the inside as I would have wanted it softer, but nothing out of this world. Overall a really solid Italian spot that feels like a neighborhood gem. The complimentary focaccia and the pesto spaghetti alone are worth the visit. I would recommend making a reservation to skip the wait, but the ambiance and warm service make it a perfect date night spot. Looking forward to coming back and trying more of their pasta offerings!
Luna Trattoria in Mendocino was such a great experience. I ordered a glass of wine and the steak & shrimp pasta, and both were incredible. The steak was cooked perfectly, the shrimp were fresh and flavorful, and the pasta tied everything together beautifully. Every bite was rich, comforting, and packed with flavor. The atmosphere was cozy and romantic, making it the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a meal while taking in the charm of Mendocino. The service was attentive, friendly, and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. If you're visiting Mendocino, Luna Trattoria is definitely worth a stop. Amazing food, great wine, and a wonderful dining experience all around. Can't wait to come back!
We really enjoyed the food here on a night where many restaurants were closed. You walk down a lovely path to a wooden door. Inside it's very festive with a choice of indoor seating or pati. The rock music doesn't quite fit the scene for me but the dishes and service were great. We had the linguine and clams done very well plus the cappellachi verde, also prepared well. It definitely helped to have a reservation although they accept walk ins.
Favorite in Mendocino! Is the chef from Italy? The food was delicious and reminded us of real Italian cuisine. Perfectly homemade pastas. Loved the charm and design of the place and the staff were really friendly too. Enjoyed it so much we cancelled other reservations and booked another dinner here.
Literally all the pasta my family tried was delicious. The penne's wine sauces weren't bad- It was my first time trying and I think it's worth trying if you like these type of sauces. My top 2 pastas were the carbonara and the California. It's a pretty busy location, but it's so cute and warm - they also have an outdoor patio and a window to watch the pasta being made. Finding the actual location based on Google maps was a bit difficult, but once you see some signs with its name try to follow them!
Cozy din This is a quaint little restaurant with cozy outdoor seatings. Plenty of heat lamps with cute lights. We tried the Tortelli al Funghi Porcini, which was delicious. Fresh pasta filled with the perfect ratio of savory mushrooms and cheese, topped with a smooth sauce. The Linguine alle Vongole would have been great too except it wasn't washed well and had sand in it...would avoid this one. We were celebrating a birthday and they threw in a complimentary tiramisu!

Luna Trattoria is such a cute and cozy spot! The decor gives off a lovely cottage-core aesthetic, making the whole place feel incredibly warm and inviting. We were definitely there for the vibes! This place serves simple, mostly authentic, and genuinely great Italian food. This is what we tried: Calamari: Crispy and perfectly delicious. Caesar Salad: A solid classic and you really can't go wrong with it. Tortellini Funghi Porcini: The absolute star of the meal! It was incredibly flavorful and absolutely delicious. If you only order one thing make it this. Fettuccine Gamberi Zucchini: It was good, but it didn't blow me away quite as much as the tortellini did. The staff were very nice and helpful throughout the evening. It is a bit on the pricey side, but completely worth it for the beautiful ambiance and experience. Wow wow wow! The only word to describe this gem is WOW. I heard of Luna Trattoria via social media and booked in advanced as I was going to make sure we visited while in Mendocino. Beyond glad we did! Be sure to make a reservation as they have limited seating. I originally booked to sit in the garden but Mother Nature had other plans. Luna reached out a few hours before dinner to confirm they could move us inside. The staff were attentive and made great suggestions. We started with an Indian Pilsner Ale, small Caesar salad along with the complimentary bread service. All were delicious. You can tell the bread is home made. The Cioppino and Farfalle California were fabulous! You can truly taste the most freshest ingredients. I'd imagine they are home grown out back. We added linguine to the Cioppino dish. Flavors were top tier. Filled with clams, muscles, cod, and shrimp soaking in a thin red sauce. I wouldn't pass this dish up. Same goes for the Farfalle California. It's creamy onion, garlic, pink sauce was devine. Had we stayed in town longer, I would've brought it home for leftovers as they load you up. This Italian spot is not to be missed. read more

We love everything about Luna - the decor, ambiance, service, and most importantly, the FOOD! So sorry for the lack of pictures dear readers, but with the food so visually appealing and delicious- who has time for photos?! We shared two appetizers- egg plant parmigiana, and polenta with house made meatballs- yum! Pair this with handmade tortellini with squash and a local red from Husch and voila I've done it! Oh and deserts- yes! Save room if you dare. Enjoy! read more

Really good great ambience thought it would be fancier because of the rules we saw online before, but it's actually a really chill place and the prices aren't too high. I really liked the bread that they served us before our food got to the table. It was almost like a pizza bread and all of our pasta was really good. I would highly recommend. read more
Stopped by for a hearty Italian meal and this spot delivers. It's mostly an outdoor restaurant but there's some indoor seating as well. We sat inside because we didn't want to be cold but their patio is super cute. The service was quick and all the waitresses were super sweet. My husband got the ribeye and prawns. The steak was cooked perfectly. I had the cioppino which was amazing. Loaded with so much delicious seafood and the broth was phenomenal. Came to this place after seeing many people on Tiktok gave high ratings. I booked the dinner a couple of months beforehand as the restaurant is small and they get very busy during dinner time. I enjoy the cozy and warm atmosphere. The customer service was good as well. However, the Cioppino with linguini was really bland. I had to add extra salt and pepper for some taste. The "seafood" had a few shrimps, mussels, and a few baby clams. The steak was really salty on the other hand. My husband had to scrape off all the sauces to make it less salty. Besides the cute atmosphere and customer service, I would not recommend people to go here for the food. It was overhyped on Tiktok. On another note, Mendocino is so small and there are not that many restaurants there for us to choose. If people are in the area, they should go to Fort Bragg for better food choices, in my opinion. read more
Had a beautiful meal here after a long day, the restaurant is so nice! Really enjoyed the spinach and cheese ravioli, and the potatoes and asparagus with my husband's chicken parm was very well done. Loved the focaccia in the table bread. 10/10 read more

Like a lot of places in Mendocino Luna Trattoria has a beautiful patio for outdoor dining. We came here for my Bday dinner even though we were still sort of full from lunch. I ordered the surf and turf 8oz flank steak with 3 grilled prawns and linguine $44. My wife had the acorn and butternut squash tortellini $26. My steak was exceptionally tender given the cut but could have used salt and pepper. The prawns were plump and delectable. The tortellini were flavorful. We got to select a free Bday dessert so I picked chocolate cheesecake which was decadently delicious. Lil Lucie ordered grilled chicken breast $6. When I was cutting Lucie's chicken breast I noticed about a 1/4 was undercooked and asked for it to be re-fired. They brought out a whole new chicken breast so Lucie was quite happy. Luna Trattoria's homemade pasta is perfect and this is a fantastic spot to enjoy a nice dinner. read more

Amazing!!! Came here for the first time ever on our coastal road trip. Loved the ambience and vibe here the food is so good and fresh and decent portion and size. Didn't really have to wait at all and the service was nice. My only gripe was that the food took a while to come out but I think it's because it's fresh so it's ok. Overall my mom and I had a great time and would dine here again if we ever come back to this area (we live about 4 hours south). read more
Our reservation was supposedly for inside dining because we were worried that it was going to be too cold outside. After seeing how pretty the outdoor area was and that they had heaters, they were able to accommodate us and get a table outdoors. The servers were nice and prompt. The carbonara was better than a lot of other places I've tried. The mousse didn't have a strong chocolate flavor, so if you don't like very sweet desserts, you'd enjoy this one. Overall, we liked everything we ordered and it was a nice surprise to experience live music on a week night! read more
we started with the house bread, which was warm, crispy at the edges, and really good, a perfect way to begin the meal. the minestrone soupe was so comforting, rich, steaming, and full of flavor, with every spoonful feeling like a warm hug. for mains, the gnocchi with pesto was a standout, tender and coated in fragrant, fresh pesto, truly ultimate comfort food. the farfalle california was flavorful and satisfying, though the chicken was a little dry. prosecco added a nice sparkle, and dessert, both tiramisu and custard italiana, were smooth, rich, and a perfect sweet ending. our server was great, funny, thoughtful, and friendly, which made the evening even more enjoyable. we sat on the patio, with live music drifting through the air and twinkling lights overhead, creating a magical, cozy atmosphere that felt almost like italy. the combination of food, service, and ambiance made it a memorable night, and i would happily return for another evening like this. read more
On a hungry night we went to try Lunas, but it was super busy and the wait was really long, so we got it to go. Man oh man, the food was out of this world. The spaghetti was a winner and the tiramisu was awesome. This is a must try in Mendocino, def make reservations. read more

Such a perfect Mendocino vibe. High quality food and wine and music and people. Kitschy, hippy, garden atmosphere with an experienced and well amplified acoustic guitarist singing for us. From the hostess to the server to the support staff all were super friendly but also professional. Had the cioppino and it was perfect for the outdoor chill in the air. I mean come on. We came here for a nice dinner during our weekend in Mendocino. I definitely recommend making a reservation, as it seemed like they were fully booked for the night. Our meal started off with a high quality bread bowl with focaccia. We tried the spinach ravioli as well as the chicken dishes. My pasta was cooked perfectly and I loved the rich, cheesy filling. The chicken was savory, had a great garlic flavor, and came with a nice serving of veggies. Overall, a little pricey in my opinion but a great option for a nice dinner in Mendocino! read more
This restaurant does not disappoint! From the beautiful walkway to the front door to a quaint dining experience. Such a gorgeous atmosphere. Any preference between upstairs and downstairs?
It depends on availability and your preference. I like the outdoor garden area.
Do they offer private parties?
They absolutely do. You can reserve the upstairs, outside or the entire place. Reach out and ask for Melanie the manager and she will get you set up.
Is dress casual?
Yes you may dress casual, it is a relaxed and welcoming environment.
Any live music planned soon?
We saw a wonderful guitarist and singer there on a Wednesday. On a Thursday it was recorded music. The waiter told us that the owner personally programs the music.
I looked online and didn't see anything on their website, but I figured I would ask here as well. Do they have GF options available?
Not 100% sure but they are super nice try calling them to verify.
Is this place pet friendly? Has out door seating?
Takeout only for now. Super cute location that we'd like to go back to after the covid madness.

Luna Trattoria has MOVED from Fort Bragg to the pretty town of Mendocino. They are OPEN for business at 955 Ukiah Street.....a very charming setting and wonderful northern Italian cooking.
