Love this place, love the vibe. Have been making it a stop whenever I come through town for years, back when they had a Rec center in the back. We were therefore super sad to get a pizza on our last visit that had a crust that was somehow both badly burned (bottom) and raw (on the handle). The pizza is pretty good here but it really seems like they do not want to do any business anymore. It has gotten really bad this year. If you call this place up you are lucky if someone answers the phone. If you visit there they don't even clean up the tables despite having 2-3 teenagers standing around up front. There are 2 people working the pizza making station without a care in the world. If they worked any slower they would be working in reverse. They could be killing it in business. OK so you are up on a Monday and want pizza then? Yeah Saturdays are busy. Called 6:30 on a Monday: Phone busy. Tried for 15 minutes finally at 645 it rings forever. Whatever I will just go somewhere else. On inspection when driving by they decided to close over 2 hours early and presumably just left the phone off the hook for a while while they were on the way out. Oh you want their signature "Hopper" pizza. Good luck with that too half the time they are out of the sauce. If you want to perhaps get a pizza if you are lucky and they are in the mood then this is the place for you. Wood oven pizzas take only a few minutes to cook and you can put more than one in the oven! So the 4-5 pizza an hour throughput here is nuts not to mention their arbitrary service an hours. read more

Love this place. I usually order the Arctic Cluck, a white pie with chicken and tomatoes. Today I got creative and added red sauce and changed the tomatoes for mushroom and bacon. Just delicious. The red sauce still has chunks of tomato that get kind of roasted in the pizza oven. Awesome and tastes really homemade. There's a little char on the crust from the wood fire and it's so good. The food tasted really good and was good brick oven style pizza, not what you would expect in Vermont. Spent the day in Cavendish, VT. for an experience of fine dining and spa treatment with my wife. This was long overdue! Anyway, we made reservations for "Stress Free" Massages for late afternoon. This place was pretty unique in its seating and decor. Also the ordering process involved reading a large chalk board which was a bit scattered and varied in its offerings. Wood Fired Specialty Pizzas are clearly the main feature here, although the menu offered Hot and cold sandwiches as well as calzones and Salad. I ordered a large Cheese pie with Xtra cheese on my half. The wait was longer than anticipated, which forced us to have it boxed so we could devour a couple slices on our way to our spa treatments. The "Secret Tomato Sauce" was the star of the pallet test! It had a slight savory tone overridden by a sweet, smooth tomato splash. Small tomato chunks spotted the pie edges. The Xtra cheese seemed like a giant slather of chewy garnish, and the thin, crispy crust brought it all together. A great pre- massage meal choice!???!??! Perhaps.... This hole has a surly staff with a rotten "take it or leave it" attitude. No diet drinks, no cup to pour your drink into - just drink it out of the bottle; no ice. If it's crowded at the 4 tables downstairs and the pool players are a bit much for the dinner hour, you can try the seating upstairs, where the temperature is stifling, there is no AC and no fan, and kids loudly play video games. And if be happy if I could've shared the wonderful pies here with my friends. There were ample tables available, and the staff were friendly. But arriving at 6pm (admittedly on a Saturday night), when we walked up to order our food, we were told we wouldn't get our food until 7:35pm at the earliest. This was jarring and, frankly, very disappointing. At almost all pizza places of repute (e.g. Modern Apizza or Frank Pepe in New Haven, CT), dine-in orders are pushed to the front of the queue, or shuffled into the mix with take-out. Not here: we would have to wait 95 minutes. If we had known, we would've ordered before starting our multi-stop drive down from Killington. So we left: sad, hungry, without good pizza. read more
