The chile verde chicharron Gorditas and chicharron chile rojo are delicious they put beans and cheese and soooo much meat the chorizo

Gordita de Camarones (Shrimp, top), chorizo con papas (left), and tonga de pollo (chicken, right)
    Frank O.

Gorditas were tasty but parking is limited to three spots in front and most are 20-min only by the adjacent liquor store. Price per Gordita is over $6 per but goes portion size. Bowl gives more filling for about double the price. Split three Gorditas between two people, not quite enough for a lunch so maybe two per person, but each is hefty. The camarones (Shrimp) was my favorite protein. Each shrimp was marinated and/or seasoned on its own, and then topped with small avocados and pico de gallo, great pairing and overall very flavorful. Chorizo con papas (spicy sausage with potatoes) was savory and just a hint of spice, and just a little bit of oil at the bottom of the Gordita. Tinga de pollo (chicken) was served with nopales (cactus). These had the texture and taste of boiled green beans, so next time I would ask for those to be held. The chicken was moist, no extra sauce but robust flavor. The chicken was juicy enough that the Gordita masa was falling apart after a few minutes, best eaten fresh and immediately.

Gordita La Baja now has a physical restaurant location in addition to a food truck, which you'll sometimes see parked outside the restaurant. There are ten different gorditas available. They have a fluffy pita-like masa stuffed with varying combinations of cheese, potatoes, beans, rice, and guacamole. The fillings include asada, chicharron, chicken, and more. The best gordita I've had was the Chorizo Y Papas (chorizo and potatoes). Adding some of the red sauce from the squeeze bottle, it was a nice little mini-meal. The asada option comes close behind. The Chicharron Rojo & Verde, had fried pork with a healthy amount of fat. I don't care for that much fat, but I know others would love this chicharron. In addition to gorditas, there are nine different bowls, that have ample portions of the fillings in a bowl, along with the cheese, potatoes, beans, etc., as well as a plain fluffy tortilla that can be used to make a gordita or just eaten as-is. Where it would take me two gorditas to make a meal, one bowl would be plenty filling. I must mention the flan, which is not on the menu but is available at the front counter. It was amazingly creamy, rich tasting, and topped with raspberries and blueberries. I'll be sure to order this on future visits. A variety of drinks are available, including horchata or jamaica on most days. The service at the counter has been very friendly. I didn't ask, but it appears there are no restroom facilities; perhaps a restroom would be made available behind the 'employees only' door. Parking is problematic, with just a few spaces along the street, but a few more available on the side of the building; or, park further down the street or in some other business's parking lot.

Service was good, seem to be busy. Indoor and outdoor place to eat. The one I loved was the chicharron and my husband loved the carnitas. We will come back.

Gorditas are great. So I decided to go with a bowl. Not worth it. You pay double for half the food.

Delicious chicharron en chile verde Gordita mmmm!

(See attached picture). This restaurant is in such an obscure location, I can't believe I was going to a Burrito Track across the street for so many years not knowing this place existed. Friendly staff and prompt service. The unfortunate negative is it's location and I'm referring to parking. There must be 8 business crammed into this lot. With a bar to the right and a laudermat on its left finding a parking spot is like winning the lotto. Now layer in one driveway and you have to make a 3 point turn just to navigate to leave. The short answer is I will absolutely go back to this place as long as there is a parking space to be had.

Well I received the flautas (which were very tasty) but they were BALD. There was about one tablespoon worth of guacamole on the side. And a tiny little pinch of lettuce. I immediately asked the waitress if it was missing the toppings, and she said "yes it's missing sour cream." She left and came back and said there was no more sour cream. A Mexican restaurant without sour cream? Oh! really wish I would've known that before ordering because, like I said, I love my flautas drenched in toppings. I would've ordered something else had I known there was no sour cream. I requested some extra guacamole to make up for the lack of sour cream. With guacamole and the salsa that comes with chips, it still tasted pretty good but my heart was wishing I had sour cream and tons of cheese. It was definitely a tasty meal but was a HUGE miss on the lack of toppings, which is what I crave when I order flautas. I've never seen flautas look so sad and lonely. The rice and beans were okay. Not too bad not too good. Just ok. It's a shame the restaurant is super beautiful but the food doesn't really seem authentic.

I went on a taco run yesterday to try to find the best taco in Whittier…read more Started off the run with a keto taco mixed with asada and al pastor and then a regular tripa taco. Keto taco - toasted/grilled cheese instead of a regular tortilla - needed to be done a little more on one side as the cheese wasn't quite toasty enough to stay in place to slightly resemble the shape of a taco. Bit hard to eat, covered my hands in grease. Asada tastes almost boiled, and this being my 2nd or 3rd time getting the Asada here, it consistently tastes like it was boiled and not grilled. Unsure of meat quality or preparation, but there are no grill marks and it's a bit chewy. Same with the al pastor. Tripa taco was bizarre. Strips of flat skin instead of the usual roundish, cylindrical shape of tripa (intestine). Usually a saltier, fattier meat than asada, which is my preference but the one here was lacking in flavor and the texture threw me off a bit. Tripa can be chewy - unless requested extra done, which is how I normally order it - but there was no saving this tripa. I think it needs to be sliced differently, the cuts made it inedible. Brother shared some of his chorizo taco and it was the better of the bunch. Red chorizo, TJ style, although it was also lacking a teeny bit in flavor... onions and cilantro to the rescue! Still, mediocre. Salsas were ok, nothing out of the ordinary. Don't think the tortillas were homemade. Service was fine, cashier takes your order, dude at the counter was chill and had a friendly attitude. Seating was limited. Mostly bar style seating but the majority was in front of a window and it had so much heat trapped from the glass that it was kind of uncomfortable. Other seats are too close to the bathroom. Good for a quick bite or just pick-up orders. Wouldn't plan a sit down/dine-in visit. Parking is scarce and has really small spots, wouldn't come if you're driving a pick-up truck or anything like that. Food was reasonably priced, which is good, however; the food was lacking so I would not return.
