Loooooveeee this cute little salon!! Super cute small shop located in North Park and super friendly staff. So happy I found this place. I found Hazel via Instagram and my friend who referred me, and so happy I did. She is amazing!! I had really dark hair and she made my hair so light within the first session. By the second session, my hair was amaaazinnngly light. She takes into consideration the health of your hair as well, which I love and appreciate! I have been coming to Hazel for 4-6 months now and she never fails to give me the hair I want! She is super busy so I always try to book in advance!!
I get my hair done by Hazel and always leave super happy with my hair and her personality is A++!! She always makes me laugh until I cry and is always so straight up and blunt!! She got me super blonde on my first session after having so many sessions with someone else. I definitely recommend her if you're looking for a new hair stylist and her price is great!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! Ever since I found Trai my life has not been the same (lol). She really listens to what I want and definitely delivers. I'm honestly so glad I found a hair stylist in SD while I was here because my hair could not wait for me to go home every-time to touch it up. The prices are also very affordable, especially since hair color can be very expensive. 100/10 would recommend coming here and seeing Trai because she will change your life
It pains me to write this review, but man, I felt so irritated and annoyed at how horrible my haircut was. I have gone to Aileen 3-4 times now, and have taken my mom here as well. Every time I've come, I've always asked for a trim and have left feeling pretty satisfied with my hair. However, this time.. was horrible. I wanted to go a little shorter and wanted a lob (long bob). Aileen told me in order for me to do that, I'd have to go much shorter so in the end, we ended up with practically the same haircut again, which was just layers. She finished my wash and cut in about 30 mins, and sent me on my way. My hair was curled so I didn't see how terribly butchered my hair was until I washed it. Mind you, I'm extremely picky but when it comes to my hair, it's the one thing I don't really care about as long as it doesn't look horrible. This time, it was soooo choppy and uneven that even my boyfriend, who never notices things like this, was like "wow, that looks pretty bad babe." I asked to come in again to get it fixed up bc there was no way I'd go for a couple of months to wait for it to grow out again looking this messed up. When I came in, she proceeded to sit me down to "even out" my hair again. Not once was there an apology for messing up my hair, also, she asked me what was "wrong" with the haircut when you can just tell how bad it is. (Pics attached) She was going to fix my hair without washing it so it was still dry. My hair had been tied up all day so it was wavy in certain areas, so I wasn't sure if it was going to be properly cut. Still, I gave her the benefit of the doubt. She fixed my hair and it looked fine once we were done. After I washed my hair at home, I realized that one side was layered well, and the other was cut straight even with just a little bit of layers. I'm so disappointed and honestly pissed at this point. All in all, I think it's safe to say I will never come here again.
Aileen is a goddamn national treasure I had been struggling to find a hair stylist in San Diego and I was referred to Aileen by a few of my co-workers who had been raving about her for a while. I took a chance and it's been 2 years and I haven't looked back. Aileen is great because she really listens to you when you tell her what you want and will be honest if she thinks that the style/color you want may not be the best for your skin tone and face shape. She's the only stylist I've worked with who will only cut off an inch when you say "just an inch" which we all know is rare when you get your hair cut. She recently took me to from dark hair to blond and it was such a great experience. She talked me through the process, was honest about how light she could take me per session while maintaining my hair health. News about Aileen has spread so if you want an appointment, try to book at least 1-2 months before you need the hair cut/color. She's 100% worth the wait!
To say that Aileen is amazing when it comes to my hair is honestly an understatement. I get really nervous when it comes to finding the right hair stylist that listens to what I want, but Aileen has made me feel really comfortable even on my very first visit. She understands what I want, without being afraid to voice her honest opinions because she really wants the best results for her clients. I have made numerous appointments with her and have left feeling satisfied every single time. She does a superb job with my hair and her attention to detail is something I really appreciate as it's very rare to find a stylist that remembers the situation of your hair (your style/preference) even after months of not seeing you. Booking my first appointment with her was the best decision I have made. Long hair or short hair - there's no one better to trust my hair with than Aileen. 12/10 would recommend. I'm still going to Aileen for all my hair needs! She's such an amazing hairstylist, and I always try to recommend her to all of my friends. I absolutely love how she tries to keep the integrity of your hair to prevent over damaging it and to make it look natural as possible. I've gone to a light brunette, to a golden blonde, to an icy blonde, and to gray. I always trust her process and the way she styles my hair. In addition, I love the way she cuts my hair. I always get so many compliments on my hair! I think the greatest part of her as a hairstylist, it feels like you're just catching up with a friend. She's really attentive and makes sure you're comfortable. I'll be sweating my ass off sometimes in the salon, and she'll bring me a fan to cool me off . If you can, book with her! She does get busy, but she is definitely worth the wait. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my hair. If she ever retires or moves, I'll beg her to come back to do my hair
Not sure why it's taken me so long to write a review considering I've been going to Aileen for SIX years now. Six years ago I heard of Aileen through a friend of a friend when I decided to chop off a foot of my hair. During my haircut I was convinced that the next time I saw her I would let her dye my very dark Asian virgin hair. Aileen is a hair god to say the least. I don't trust anyone else with my hair coloring or hair cuts. It has been a long journey of getting my dark virgin hair to the ashy blonde it is today- but my hair not only looks great but it feels healthy too. She really takes care of her clients and advises them of any precautions to take in order to prevent your hair from suffering major damage from processing. She listens and delivers. Aside from hair cuts and coloring, Aileen offers comfort and friendship every time you sit in her chair. I've even gone to Disneyland with her-- that's just how much our relationship has grown over the years and I wouldn't have it any other way! Thank you for always taking care of my hair Aileen! I will never let you move away from me (unless I can come with you) lol!!
Went from raggedy to ashy (blonde) and it was a good thing LOL I had an appointment with Hazel (@hl_hairstyles on insta) the other day and she is amazing! Before Hazel, my hair color was one dimensional, the cut was outgrown with crazy flyaways and baby hairs, flat and just all around blahhh...it was time I get *professional* help lol. My friend recommended her and so I decided to try her out (turns out a lot of my friends who had amazing hair also went to her)! The booking process was easy, just emailed her about what I wanted, asked what her availability was, pricing, etc. and I would get a response that day or the next day at the latest! Day of the appointment: Parking in North Park for me is usually hit or miss but I went on a Monday morning and there was plenty of parking. There's street parking right in front of the salon, or around the corner there's a church with a small parking area. The atmosphere was chill (music playing, light talking, not crowded or overwhelming at all) and the interior is cute, clean and tidy! Hazel had an assistant who helped me as soon as I walked in. She offered me a beverage and then we had a mini consultation with her and with Hazel so that they really understood what I wanted for my hair. I showed a couple of inspo pics and Hazel was very helpful in explaining the subtle differences between them and was very transparent with how the results would turn out. They understand the importance of setting the client up for success so that we always leave happy! Both Hazel and her assistant were polite, professional and obviously very talented! I would trust her to do any hairstyle of her choosing on me to be honest lol! It's crazy how much a killer haircut, color and style can dramatically change the way you feel. I definitely recommend :)
Daniela did my color and cut. I wanted something light but to keep as much length as possible. I also wanted color but nothing too crazy. So basically, I gave her no real direction. She was so great at figuring out exactly what I was looking for and executed it to perfection. To top it off, it was a delight chatting with her. Her positivity and energy are contagious. The salon is in a perfect location. I had no problem finding parking. It's cute, open floor plan was also aesthetically pleasing.
This is for Aileen - in all my 6+ years seeing her I don't know why it took me so long to review! During that tome she has been with my hair journey from barely being brave enough for a slight balayage ombré, to purple, to toned down, to now an ashy blonde. I used to think it would be too much maintenance but with her work and aftercare tips my blonde stays pretty until the next toner. I'm still getting compliments until the week of my toner. It shows how much she cares about her job and helping others. Plus, her prices are definitely reasonable - you don't have to break the bank for nice hair, friends! Thank you Aileen, for helping me push my boundaries because a good hair day is never overrated!
I've been getting my hair done at pricy salons for years, this is my best place so far hands down. HAZEL is amazing. I've seen her 3 times already since the end of last year. She took out box dye 1st session, Brazilian blowout 2nd session (I've had it done in the past and it came out the best when I did it with her), touched up balayage 3rd session. Worth the $$! Salon is super clean and cute.

Hazel and Linda... the dynamic duo. Hazel is personable, listens to my hair challenges, and always recommends what's best for me. Not only is she great at what she does, she's also a great person. I've been going to her for years now. Glad to have found her, from a friend's recommendation. Had my nails done by Hannah and what an amazing experience and job she did!!! Definitely making this my go to spot!! Her work is truly art come to life. I've finally found the salon I'm gonna keep going to!! My friend has always had a really great balayage and she recommended Aileen at Gorgeous Salon. Aileen does such a good job of blending the colors and toning. She's honest with how blonde it will get and whether or not it might need additional sessions. Super easy to talk to and super chill. I absolutely love her work. I leave feeling so cute hehe. People have asked me if my highlights are natural... she's that good. I tend to go a little longer than most people between sessions (6-8) months and it's blended so well that it doesn't look bad at all. I go back to get more blonde and to move the color up :) The best part, sooooo much more affordable than other places I've been in SD. Keep in mind that she's super busy and you will need to book way in advance!! read more

Aileen and Trai were such a great duo that worked so well together on my hair! I had an appointment with Aileen to achieve an ashy-gray blondish do that she and Trai executed perfectly! Since I had dark Asian hair with a brassy blonde ombré, she said it would take two sessions. I liked that she gave me the option to either make two appointments with her or get it all done in one day. I chose to get it done altogether, and that's where Trai came in and worked simultaneously on my hair with Aileen. Aileen and Trai were very nice and made me feel very comfortable. I also loved their professionalism and expertise, as they worked quickly and efficiently. My appointment started at 10am and ended at 3pm. Creating blonde hair from dark Asian hair is no joke! And although they had to bleach my hair twice, my hair was still left feeling soft with minimal breakage. My hair is now a beautiful ash gray. love my hair so much! read more
I've been seeing Aileen at Gorgeous for more than 2 years now, and after each color session, I always leave with a smile! I also wanted to address that some ladies who left recent reviews here just don't understand that balayage or ombré on darker hair actually takes either a full day of bleaching and rebleaching, or a second session (SESSION 2, by the way, is NOT called a "color correction" lol). Recently, I asked Aileen to do a balayage style coloring on me but several months prior to this I had asked her to dye my hair dark brown. Aileen explained that starting out with dark hair and going BLONDE will need to take two sessions. I immediately understood, and even though some may argue that there are hairdressers out there who can do it in one day for a 6-8 hour session, not all hairdressers have the bandwidth to do that. Aileen NEVER rushes any of her work. Aileen did my session 1 in 2 hours tops, and she did a great job on being professional and efficient. My hair became significantly lighter than what I came in with (dark brown to a very nice balayage-- see my uploaded picture for reference). I was pretty happy with the first session already, and 2 hours was definitely enough time for hair to bleach out for SESSION 1. Two weeks later, I came in for SESSION 2. The result of session 2 was FANTASTIC-- I could not have been happier with my hair. This session took a little less than 2 hours, and I was amazed with how much my hair was able to be bleached without drying out too much. Aileen told me she uses a new product called Olaplex-- a product that will prevent your hair from becoming too crispy during the bleaching process. I stand by my comment on how I leave Gorgeous Salon each time with a smile. Aileen has done wonderful coloring work with my hair (from red, to various shades of brown, and now balayage), and she has always been efficient on time. It is truly difficult to find a hair dresser who understands your hair so well and puts your time before her own. Check out my picture progress for results! :) read more

Made an appointment with Aileen for coloring after hearing great reviews from my cousin and mutual friends, and from seeing her work on Instagram. Got to the salon a few minutes early and Aileen was all ready for me! She asked me what I wanted done, distinguished the differences between ombre and balayage, and finally decided on a combination of both. I also asked for a trim/layers to add shape to my hair. Aileen got to work right away, and we chatted pretty much the whole time. She's very personable and makes every effort to relate to her clients. She's so friendly and professional. Even when we had to wait for the color to set in, she sat down near me and had more conversations :) She then washed my hair, blow dried it and then curled my hair. The color came out PERFECT, Aileen definitely knows what she's doing! I recommend her to anyone looking for some color in their life. Definitely going to come back soon! read more

My first time EVER getting my hair done professionally was with Trai (try) through one of my friend's referral. Trai is such a fun blonde haired guy; super passionate about his job! I was scared because I've had my hair dyed A BUNCH of times with black BOX dye because I'm so indecisive, but trai had so much patience in me to get the black out of my hair! Let me tell you, extremely patient. I went through so many phases of going light and dark, and I really wanted to commit so I came to see him pretty often at least 1x a month if not even 2x once, and he took me in each time on a short notice and got me to the color I loved!! I'll actually be back this coming saturday because I'm goin back to the light! :) read more

I went to get my hair done for the first time with Daniella! She was so so kind. She explained everything thoroughly so we were on the same page. It was a process, but she made me feel as comfortable as possible. I feel so good with my new hair, it feels so healthy again. I came here because my regular stylist (at a different salon) was booked up solid for two months, and I was ready to pull my hair out because my hair was so overgrown! Cindy was so awesome! She came in early on a Saturday to fit me into her schedule (I had only called the day before to see if she had any availability), and that was so wonderful in itself! She gave my hair a much needed trim, a wonderful wash, and then asked if I wanted my hair straightened (which NEVER happens)! I really wanted it straightened, but know my hair, and it looks thicker than it is, so it's no easy job. She said she had the time and would gladly do it - so I did! OMG she knows the proper technique, tools, temperatures, and product to make ANY hair bone straight - even mine! The Unite products that are used/sold here are amazing (Cindy said the product chooses which salons it will be in), and the straightening/shine products she put on worked wonderfully! I was SO happy with my on-the-whim straight hair that I HAD to have her straighten it for my sister's wedding (I was going to do it myself, but my hair has never been straighter in my life)! Go to Cindy for your curly hair cut and to get it sexy straight ;) you will not be disappointed! Great prices too! read more

I will definitely come back and get My Nails done by kristen. She did such am awesome job especially with the nail art i wanted. I brought in a picture of what i wanted and it looked EXACTLY the same. Nail art is super tech so totally respected her artisticness. Will definitely be comin back to get my hair done by Brigette. AILEEN IS THE BEST! To start off I had to reschedule like ten times due to my business schedule and having a newborn baby. She still did such an awesome job after all I put her thru! Friendly,knowledgable, and made me feel welcome. (Thanks for my tea!) I'm a very simple Jane kind of girl. I find interest in very simple things. I'll take 30mins on my makeup but 2mins on my hair. She transformed my overgrown, down to my butt, split ends, coarse hair nest to something that I loooooove! Something that is low maintenance, but still brings life to my hair, frames and compliments my face. Overall, I loved my first visit and will be back again so she can again work her magic. I came here with the recommendation of my closest friend (Vicky) saying she knew one of the stylist (trai) that wouldn't let me down on my hair goals/ expectations and to my surprise it was true! Every time I enter this salon i get the look I absolutely fall in love with every time. Trai is very interactive when it comes to meeting the hair goal her customer comes in with. She uses really good ombré techniques with coloring. She's really quick when it comes to her appointments and isn't much of a hassle when communicating with her. For the interior of this salon everything looks so chic. It looks like you're in one of a stylish make up studio.
