I ate here once before and it was great! Ordered delivery yesterday.... big mistake. Puked for 3 straight hours after eating spicy tuna rolls, spicy miso soup, and pot stickers. For the price, this was good sushi. The rolls I got were interesting, flavorful, and the small plates made it easy to try multiple rolls. However, the delivery takes forever. It took an hour and a half for 4 rolls, three of which were only 4 pieces each. When the sign for Gorilla Sushi appeared above the closed bakery I was super excited. A new sushi spot in my neighborhood? Unfortunately, I'm here to tell you it's not that good. One draw of Gorilla sushi is the $2.95 menu (although speciality rolls are more expensive). The $2.95 items tend to be small so you still end up ordering quite a few to create a meal. The benefit of this is that you can try a couple different things. These items are also fairly simple in their construction which leads to the first downfall of this place: the rolls lack flavor. More importantly, however, is that the fish just isn't that good. The fish doesn't seem that fresh and the texture is off. It won't break the bank, but even at this price point I could wind up doing better elsewhere. read more

I haven't actually eaten at the restaurant but their delivery service is great! The amount of sushi you get for the price you pay is absurd! I've ordered 10 different rolls for 30 bucks. The small orders are the best, and you can split it with a couple of different people. Service was extremely slow. Took over an hour and a half from seating to check (for one person) I'm glad I was in no hurry. Don't expect your rolls to match their descriptions. At all. And if you complain they're wrong don't expect it to be fixed, not even by adding a little spicy mayo to something that says it has the spicy sauce and has none. Their tempura was greasy and unpleasant tasting, and things came tempura Coates that weren't labeled as such. The only nice thing I have to say is a nice patio and a decent iced Thai tea and the fish seamed reasonably fresh. read more

This place is really good for the price point. I would think that any place that offers $2.95 sushi would be a little sketchy but not at all. The rolls are a bit smaller here than a place that would charge $10+ for a roll but this offers you the chance to try a lot of different rolls at an affordable price. The miami roll and the thai iced coffee are my two favorite things on the menu. I definitely will only be coming here from now on. The only thing I regret is not knowing of this place sooner. read more

I am not sure how anyone has given this place more than one star.. This is the worst sushi place I've ever been to. The manager is crooked and a cheat. They offer free miso soup if you check in on Facebook and then will not give that to you. They say they are cash only but provide no ATM. I imagine this place won't last much longer. The little waiter boy in there acts like he can't speak English when there is an issue which I later noticed he speaks English just fine when not faced with confrontation. We were really excited to try this place. Unfortunately, the super cheap prices are cheap for a reason. My husband and I ordered a bunch of rolls for take-out and anything with fish in it was terrible. The fish would alternate between super chewy or, somehow, hard--I don't even know how that happens. It tasted really bad, fishy and not at all fresh. The only good roll was the sweet potato roll. We will not be coming here again, which is a shame because we love sushi and live a block away. This place is a find! We have gone twice in the last two weeks. I have to say, not very impressive from the street but the food is outstanding.....great menu, fresh sushi and simple (as in not tricked out......I'm not a big fan of mayo, so we asked that to be omitted) and really friendly, appreciative service....a little slow but who cares when they are "that nice". They have about eight tables outside in a side "courtyard" that makes me feel like I am in Europe. Oh yea, BYOB too AND really, really reasonably priced. First time at Gorilla Sushi. Restaurant is located close to public transport, but parking is easily available as well. Very cute outside patio area. Menu is very straight forward: everything 2.95. I was afraid that portions are very small, but I was pleasantly surprised that the rolls are a good size. Bazooka Jalapeños are fantastic. There were 10 people in the restaurant on a Wednesday evening, including the two of us.
