Really solid bagels, but the toppings, schmears, and order accuracy leave a lot to be desired. We've been on a journey for the past two year to find a good, chewy, cream cheese and lox topped bagel in Chicago, and I was excited to find out about Gotham Bagels. The pictures and reviews seemed really promising, so we placed our order online (the only way to order) and patiently waited our 30 minutes to pick up our order. The great: we ordered each of the special cookies they offered, and they were outstanding though pricey ($4.50 for a single black and white cookie). However, the proceeds from the cookies go to a good cause, so I would like happily order and eat every cookie they make again. The "gooey marshmallow" cookie in particular was a perfect sweet/salty/chewy combo. Highly recommend. The good: the bagels themselves were chewy, perfectly dense, with a great flavor and crumb. This is a great NYC style bagel. Next time, I think we will just order a dozen bagels and tip ourselves at home. The not so good: we picked up our order promptly (before we actually got the text that it was ready), yet the cream cheese in our bagels had turned into a watery mess when we opening them up in the car immediately after picking them up. I've never seen cream cheese on a bagel liquify like this, especially since we ate them immediately. It almost made me wonder if we had accidentally been given the vegan cream cheese? But I'm not sure if that's typically for vegan either. The portions of the toppings on the sandwiches were pretty stingy as well. My husband's "Brighton Beach" was PACKED with arugula, but barely had any smoked salmon. I know that's the premium ingredient, but for $14.25 for a single sandwich, I would have expected more. For comparison, Corey's Bagels down the street only charges $12.95 for a similar sandwich, and it comes with a really generous serving of lox. My veggie topped bagel was also pretty light on the cukes and tomatoes I had added. Again, the bagels themselves were quite delicious (among the best we've had), but the meager sandwiching fillings that gushed watery cream cheese when we bit into them really took away from the experience. And on order accuracy, we had ordered the Brighton on a salt bagel, but received it on an everything bagel. We had requested napkins and utensils (we had planned to eat our bagels immediately in the car), but received neither. While our overall experience is what is driving this three star rating, the bagels themselves are a solid four stars, and we will be back to try them again. read more

We stopped by Gotham Bagels to get a bagel to go before a busy day. You'll need to order in advance and pick up only due to COVID, and if you're going on the weekend, order 20-30 minutes before you get there. I had a sesame bagel with cucumber, tomato, and veggie cream cheese. The tomato wasn't super fresh, but the cucumber was. The veggie cream cheese was mostly carrot, which I didn't mind. Best bagels in Chicago! Being from New York - my sister and I have really high expectations for bagels. Gotham is where it is at! Also, we love that they have vegetarian options (vegan plain and scallion cream cheese). Their bagels are chewy and hard on the outside but soft and airy on the inside - how they should be. Our favorite is the salt bagel! Their sandwiches are delicious - particularly the OMFG (fried egg, cheddar, fried chicken bacon and spicy aoili) and the Yellow CAB (cheddar, avocado, bacon, tomato, arugula and mayo). Note that the OMFG does have a kick to it! All of the bagels are served with a homemade deli pickle. Ordering online was easy and pickup was simple and organized. After church we decided to drive from South to North for bagels. Well when I googled the location it showed the address as 1212 Dearborn. I was looking for 1212 but couldn't find the company name to match the address. When we passed by 1212 ALL the signage said Eduardo's. Umm but where is Gotham Bagels? I called and advised the Associate I was at 1212 but didn't see Gotham Bagel I only saw Walgreens and Eduardo's. She said keep walking and I would see Gotham. Well I got out the car walked the sidewalk and lo and behold they had signs on chalkboard on the ground advertising Gotham Bagel. So I went inside only to find out I have to place my order online then pick up. I'm not tech savvy like that so I left and went to Einstein Bagel down the street. Signage and options for all are very important this location is limiting their customer base hopefully in the future I'll get to try a Gotham bagel. I will say the outside cafe was set up cute a bit to close together for my liking but people do what they want. Will I return yes, because I want to try their fresh rolled bagels. I've been searching for a good bagel in Chicago after living in NYC for years and finally found one. Perfect chew, delicious sandwiches, all the things. The Brighton Beach is pricey but it's great and worth it. The only complaint I had was about the pickup process. I ordered everything online as normal and went to pick it up. I hadn't received a second text that my order was ready, so I waited outside. Well over 30 minutes had passed, and while I still hadn't gotten a text, the receipt's prompt said my order was ready (and had been for 20 minutes, but i waited for the text). I went inside to ask about the order and sure enough, there it was. Ultimately I'm not sure if the second text would have come in or my order was truly late late (they were incredibly busy and very nice people, for the record!) but I would encourage anyone to allow for more time than you'd think for your order to be ready. All in all, that won't be a deterrent from me ordering again as the product was delicious and I'm glad I also got a half dozen bagels to enjoy throughout the week. They were really swamped with orders, and I'm glad people are supporting this local business! read more
