I decided to check this place out because I love bagels (who doesn't?!). I found the online ordering system to be a little complicated/not user friendly. After creating an account, it wanted me to register my phone number (not sure why) and I didn't get the confirmation code right away (or even after a few minutes), so I just decided to go and order it there. I got the notion that this was not preferred. I understand because of COVID, but why so many hoops to jump through to order online? I ordered the Brighton Beach sandwich. I'll admit it was more than I wanted to spend, but it was a #treatyoself day. I got it on an everything bagel and thought the bagel itself was pretty good. However, my tomato slices were orange/not ripe. The smoked salmon had some brown spots on it and I thought tasted just OK. Wait 35-45 min for a bagel that does not even get toasted (even if you request). They need to invest in toasters! The order once received was wrong. Nothing about this order was correct for a bacon egg and cheese bagel. It had items on there not requested (cream cheese and tomato). Requested egg over easy it comes scrambled and wet. Trying to order online never works and they don't answer the phone. This is the only bagel place in the neighborhood and it's an absolute disgrace. They also are not aware of their own innovatory. Everything seems to be out every week. If your desperate for a bagel then look elsewhere. You have a better chance of getting a bagel from the garbage outside. Go elsewhere as this place sucks. While waiting for my order 8 people came back saying their order was wrong. I never leave negative reviews but this experience was so horrible. If I was starving in a desert and could only eat this place your going to die of starvation due the them being so slow. If you tell them the order is wrong they blame you instead of apologizing for their error and correcting it. They are not customer centric at all. The management needs to reevaluate if they should stay in business. They tell you to order online but they shut down the online ordering on purpose and then blame you for not ordering online. I was excited to try Gotham today as a NY bagel lover and I got the Long Island. It was good but with tax and tip it came to $20 which is crazy!! The sandwich had turkey, cheese, arugula and tomato and was nowhere near $20. Glad that I tried it but I won't be back. read more

You can't walk in off the street and order a bagel. You have to set up an account on the app, give them your cell phone, email, create a password, add your credit card. Also, you can't see the bagels... I ordered a salt bagel and it must've had 1 million pieces of salt on it. You can't even see the bagel under all the salt. In fact you can't even taste the bagel. I would say the best bagels I've had in Chicago! Easily the best vegan/dairy free cream cheese at a bagel place. It runs out of Eduardo's kitchen in the morning, so look for that sign if you're going and if it's a nice day, sit on Eduardo's patio and enjoy your bagel. Good bagels, horrible service concept! Instead of offering an order ahead of time "option" (which is smart) they "require" it, ostracizing an entire potential customer base. My wife tried to order bagels online. The website wouldn't take the order so I went in person. The Gen Z behind the counter said they only take online orders. We're glad to see that Gotham Bagels have come through the pandemic. The sandwiches we ordered (Hyde Park and Hudson Valley) were delivered as promised and delicious. There was a bit more honey-walnut cream cheese and a bit less fried chicken than in the picture, but no biggie. It was all delicious and the chicken was nice and crispy. The Hudson Valley veggies were very tasty, a nice combination of flavors. Expecting a typical dill pickle, we were very pleasantly surprised by its spiciness. We look forward to enjoying our half-dozen of Chicago's best bagels over the next few days. read more

Don't go here on a Saturday morning unless you want to pay $20 and wait 45 minutes for a hard, cold bagel. The online ordering system cannot properly manage the amount of orders. The staff were extremely overwhelmed and short with the customers. The waiting area is small and chaotic with customers waiting for late orders and customers returning orders because they were incorrect. I recently got carry out from Gotham Bagels. I have heard a lot of hype about this place opening a location in Chicago. This place totally lived up to that hype. I got two of their bagel sandwiches for lunch. I got the classic cream cheese with lox. I also got a one that was a bit more eggy, the OMFG on a sesame bagel. First, I will discuss the cream cheese and lox bagel sandwich. In addition to cream cheese and lox, I got tomato and arugula on it. This bagel sandwich lived up, and exceed, the standards for this classic. The bagel was well made and the lox was tender and yummy. Next, the OMFG was a good version of chicken sandwich. It is topped with bacon, a fried egg, cheddar cheese and spicy aioli. The chicken was tasty and the it delivered a very nice heat level. You can't go wrong with either one of these bagel sandwiches. This is my favorite bagel place in Chicago. My boyfriend is from the east coast and loves his bagels. He had yet to find a good bagel place that is comparable to the east coast bagel places until this was recommended to us. If you are looking for a good New York style bagel in Chicago, this is your place. The Chicago location is located within another restaurant and you have to order online. I personally enjoy the egg everything with cream cheese but my boyfriend is a fan of the bagel sandwiches. The only downside is how expensive the bagels are. I was so excited to hear about Gotham Bagels opening in the Gold Coast because there aren't many good bagel places in the area. I was finally able to try them today, and I'm so glad I did! When I first went to order online, they said they were too busy and not accepting orders, but I checked again an hour later and was able to order. My boyfriend and I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and the one egg sandwich and we were surprised that the total was $25. We both agreed that the bagels were amazing, but very pricey. I don't enjoy ever writing bad reviews. We eat out several times a week, but today's experience was so awful, I'll never return, and I suggest that Gotham take measures to improve users experience on many levels. My son and his girlfriend are in town. She really wanted a Chicago everything bagel. I sent them (without reading the reviews first) to Gotham's because it's in walking distance. Had I known ahead that 3.6 stars were on Yelp, I would have had them skip it. They arrive at 11:02am, and I text him my $16 bagel sandwich order (they have to do it online only- stupid). They both wanted an everything bagel w cream cheese but when they would click to order (it was still black at the time), it would not add into the cart. It eventually grayed out in a minute or two. They kept attempting to oder the everything bagel online for 10 minutes refreshing the browser. My son eventually makes his way to the front of the line where he asks the manager (whose name for privacy starts with an N). He explains they've been there for over 10 min attempting to order EB's and she says oh, because we are out, but they'll be out in two minutes, just wait and they'll come available online. He said she was in a rush and wouldn't help him anymore and was dismissive b/c she had too many people in line. So he went to sit in the restaurant and just ordered my sandwich and he chose another flavor bagel that was available (that he didn't even want) and placed the order in at 11:18am (knowing mine would take longer to make). It gave him a 30 min wait time. First of all- if you have to wait 30 minutes for a bagel once you have ordered it- you are not running your store correctly. Second of all, had he been able to order her Everything Bagel at 11:05am when he initially tried to, the wait would have been less time (at worst they would have all been out at 11:35am). He spends from 11:05am until 11:40am attempting to oder his gf an everything bagel for 35 minutes. He refreshed it every few minutes (I have several of his screenshots with many of the bagels grayed out and time stamped), he even changed browsers on his phone and went to the online order system. I called the store to talk to the manger and explained what was happening at 11:41am. Nobody should have to wait that long to order a bagel or to get their orders, and certainly if you are going to be a bagel place, have your bagels available online to order. After 11:30am, 9/10 of the bagels were grayed out on the screen for 15 minutes. She tells me that she can't see my son and there are only 4 people in line. Duh, he was not standing in line as he was just attempting to wait for the bagel that she told him 30 min ago would be available. She then twisted my words. I told him he was in the restaurant. She said there are only 4 people in line. She obviously could not see him from behind the counter because the seating is behind a wall. I said they are just waiting for an everything bagel, she said they are coming out now. He said it's the worst experience he's ever had. I asked her to immediately refund my money, I just wanted them to leave since I had paid for it on my card. She said we have the EB bagels coming out now., I'll get him one. Had she just given him an EB bagel and refunded my money (by the way, I spend alot of money on dining out- it was never about the money, but about the principle) I would not be writing this review. She said if I refund your money, will you not write a bad review (I told her I was going to). My son walked up at 11:45am, and it took her until after 12pm to tell him she'd refund his money later and she didn't even give him the one bagel that we went in there for that was the reason for an entire hour delay). I finally walked in at 12:10pm and had a stern talking with her b/c she had not taken care of what she told me she would take care of immediately. I said I asked you at 11:45am to immediately refund my money- yet somehow she thought making my son wait 15 MORE min and asking him if she could do it later was ok. He's a really nice kid. He said ok, b/c he didn't want to deal with her anymore and just wanted to leave. He said I'd pay $25 to leave.She asked me to wait. I said I'm done waiting. I don't care about your long line. I think the fact that my kid walked in over an hour ago for 3 bagels is enough. I had her refund my money on the spot. I don't need to get a speech about the wait time on the app. If you have half of your bagels not available to order when people have a multi bagel order and your wait time is hovering at 30 min AND you can't fix a problem immediately when someone explains the problem. My son said she was dismissive of her, and she was on the phone with me, and then I have to leave my house to talk to her myself and have her tell me the handful of people in line are more important than me given over an hour of waiting to eat b/c this bagel place is inept.
