This is one of my favorite spots. I only bring my favorite friends and family here. The brisket sandwich is always a win. I usually take half of my meals home. The salads are delicious. I really like the half baked chicken. The desserts are best on Friday before they are sold out... The servers are like family. Most of the customers seem to be regulars who've come here for years. They all know the servers and the servers know them. The ambiance is a small and cozy space where people who are in the know come to break bread. An absolute gem of a place. Cozy, warm and sweet. The service is A++++, exactly what you need, to get away from the hustle and bustle. You are treated like family. No kayaking excursion for two middle age men would be complete without a redemptive power lunch thereafter. I'll get to that soon. If you had told me 10 years ago I'd be at Oleta River State Park kayaking with Mickey Ramirez, owner and proprietor of Technique Records©, I'd tell you it was a Terrible Lie. But here we are! Prior to our journey, I had read someone's Yelp review of the park complaining about hundreds of toddlers that smelled like feet driving boats here on the weekends. So we opted for a breezy Monday morning. A servant takes your money upon entering the park. Once inside, there are a bunchy of bro-y camp counselor types running this place. They make you fill out a bunch of waivers in case you die at the park. Micky offered to pay for the kayak rentals if I picked up lunch. Dealio bro! Once on the water it was smooth sailing and not a smelly toddler in sight! I was a bit rusty since I hadn't kayaked since being a young buck in Summer camp. But Mickey made me feel comfortable and guided the way. He even snapped a kayak selfie of us for the gram. Although I did get some nasty blisters on my thumbs from the paddle. OUCH! Once the kayaking portion of our journey was through, it was time to get Down In It and smash some lunch. Unfortunately there wasn't an Arby's nearby so Mickey suggested a local French diner in the area he had been meaning to check out. I was game. On the way, whilst waiting at probably one of the longest red lights of my entire life on the intersection of 163rd and N. Federal Hwy, I decided to look this place up on Yelp. Photos of snails in a bowl of slime; a French Onion soup that looked like an inoperable tumor; some poor, overcooked steak crawling with slimy onions; a piece of sad bread; All pretty ghastly. We descended upon the strip mall which contained The Petit Gourmet Diner. Once inside, the salty seating servant scoffed at us for being under 60. The decor was that of a low budget 90's Italian restaurant movie set, with the savory sounds of soft, satellite radio pop permeating the atmosphere. The only thing on the menu below $24.95 was a hot dog. Today was Mickey's "cheat day" so he ordered an ice cold DC and $24.95 hamburger, well done, with cheese. I splurged on the $16.95 hot dog and a tall glass of water. Oui oui! Before we knew it, the diner was full of old, lumpy bodies ready to spend their social security checks on an early lunch. Each plate came with fries (the only "French" portion of either dish), and if you've ever dined at an elementary school cafeteria you'll catch my drift about the quality of said fries. The hotdog was hot though and came with free condiments. After paying the lofty check, the servants rewarded us with some cookies they had just heated up in the microwave and a free refill of water. One Of The WORST! My family and I had been coming to this place for many years at this and previous locations. My recent visit, was my last visit. First, understand that this place is VERY EXPENSIVE and charges high-end steakhouse prices. But the food overall has become terrible. And the chef shoudl be fired as they do not even know how to cook the basics. Even after complaining about the recent meal, there was no attempt to take the item off the bill. We had enjoyed the meals for the last few months but unfortunately we had a very bad experience and will never retu4n. My husband and I ordered the Mahi fish woth coconut topping. The fish tasted extremely bad and I had to ask the waitress to remove the dish. The male waiter who had taken my order was upset that I sent my meal back and very upset that I did not like the fish. He wa rude and acted as though I had no right to not like the food. My husband had ordered the same dish and was vomiting after we got home. The fish wa bad ! There is something wrong when this ma,e waiter thi ks he can be rude because a paying customer does not like the food because it's spoiled. They should be ashamed. French onion soup was 2nd best I've ever had savory and Swiss cheesy (my top was made by my French chef brother in law Not in the business.) The escargot was a delicacy I ordered warm french bed to dip in the garlic butter sauce. We also had the brisket sandwich in the au jus was huge size of an entire French loaf baguette. We brought our friend here for lunch today. It was not far away from where she lives -- and it was on my list of "to try" places in Dade County. It's in the middle of a shopping strip on the east side of Biscayne Boulevard. And during lunch, it was surprisingly quite busy. Prices are not inexpensive, but as we learned, portions are commensurate. We decided to have their lunch special -- a sandwich with fries or salad or soup of the day. My husband chose their tuna salad and a Caesar salad; I had a brisket sandwich with a Caesar salad; my friend had a brisket sandwich with a house salad. First, we were treated to a basket of warm French bread and some very good hummus dip. This was a nice start -- and helped the hunger pains while waiting for our entrees. The large salads served next filled up the plates. The house salad came with a side pitcher of house made vinaigrette. The Caesar salads were lightly coated with their own dressing (but no anchovies). The sandwiches came on crusty French bread. His white tuna also had lettuce, tomato and onion on it. The brisket sandwiches were filled with very tender sliced meat and melted Swiss cheese. A bowl of tasty au jus was served on the side for dipping. It was very good. We were too full for dessert, but settled on cappuccino and a cortadito. It was a nice surprise to receive three warm (and gooey) chocolate chip cookies compliments of the house! Their menu is large and has many French offerings. You can order full meals instead of sandwiches, if you wish. I imagine that fine of the "ladies that lunch" there do just that and take half of their meals home for dinner. I'm so glad we went and tried it. Now we know! read more

If you like French cuisine you must go to this restaurant. The atmosphere is romantic, the place is very clean and you get greeted as soon as you walk in. The service is very enticing and the waiters are very attentive to your every need. The food is delicious with that delectable French touch. Every plate that we had was Devine. I don't understand what niche that Gourmet Diner fills - it serves humble 'comfort food' that is uncomplex, and yet very expensive. The brisket sandwich pairs fatty meat and swiss with a baguette and 'au jus', costs $19, and is less enjoyable or unique than a cheesesteak costing half as much somewhere else. A hamburger is in the same stratosphere, and can't be better than any of the dozens you can find nearby for half the price. I think there was even a $12 hot dog (psst: Costco sells one, with a drink, just down the street a bit for $1.99!). In it's prior location, the place at least had retro-charm going for it, but now housed in a strip mall, it's a charmless cut-out. And I feel like I'm really going easy on the place with 3 stars, which I give them for being a local small business. The people who frequent the place aren't the typical Yelp demographic, so this review won't influence the nostalgic geriatric clientele, but for those under 40, there are many better options in the area. read more

Bad experience! Ordered 1 meal $27 and a dinner salad $18 and a glass of wine. Was charged an additional $7 sharing charge because my wife eat some from my plate. Had only she ate her salad and I my plate of food we would not have been billed the $7 sharing charge. Since we shared both dishes we were charged wrongly and taken advantage of. I can understand had we ordered one dinner and shared, it would have been appropriate the sharing charge. The manager Eric who became aware of my complaint came over angry and was intimidating instead of accommodating for such a dumb thing I did not look to beat their system but they carefully planned to abuse their clients to gain an extra $7 resulting in the lose of a client in which based on the attitude of Eric the $7 was more important the retaining the client. I'm ashamed that I haven't posted a review for this place yet. I use to frequent this restaurant old location with my family. I always enjoyed the food and the staff that served there. Here, you will get very friendly waiters/waitresses that will make you feel like family. I've had various items off the menu and every one of them has been good. My favorites are, the Chicken Piccatta, the Roasted Duck, Escargot, French Onion Soup, and Crab Cakes.
