Filet medallions, mash potatoes and green beans

An absolute gem of a place. Cozy, warm and sweet. The service is A++++, exactly what you need, to get away from the hustle and bustle. You are treated like family. And every bite we had was absolutely delish! Mom and I enjoyed the beef stew as a starter and each opted for the filet medallions. The mushroom sauce was to die for!! We can't wait to come back again. During the holidays I bet it will be just what we need. Love it here, 10 out of 10!

No kayaking excursion for two middle age men would be complete without a redemptive power lunch thereafter. I'll get to that soon. If you had told me 10 years ago I'd be at Oleta River State Park kayaking with Mickey Ramirez, owner and proprietor of Technique Records©, I'd tell you it was a Terrible Lie. But here we are! Prior to our journey, I had read someone's Yelp review of the park complaining about hundreds of toddlers that smelled like feet driving boats here on the weekends. So we opted for a breezy Monday morning. A servant takes your money upon entering the park. Once inside, there are a bunchy of bro-y camp counselor types running this place. They make you fill out a bunch of waivers in case you die at the park. Micky offered to pay for the kayak rentals if I picked up lunch. Dealio bro! Once on the water it was smooth sailing and not a smelly toddler in sight! I was a bit rusty since I hadn't kayaked since being a young buck in Summer camp. But Mickey made me feel comfortable and guided the way. He even snapped a kayak selfie of us for the gram. Although I did get some nasty blisters on my thumbs from the paddle. OUCH! Once the kayaking portion of our journey was through, it was time to get Down In It and smash some lunch. Unfortunately there wasn't an Arby's nearby so Mickey suggested a local French diner in the area he had been meaning to check out. I was game. On the way, whilst waiting at probably one of the longest red lights of my entire life on the intersection of 163rd and N. Federal Hwy, I decided to look this place up on Yelp. Photos of snails in a bowl of slime; a French Onion soup that looked like an inoperable tumor; some poor, overcooked steak crawling with slimy onions; a piece of sad bread; All pretty ghastly. We descended upon the strip mall which contained The Petit Gourmet Diner. Once inside, the salty seating servant scoffed at us for being under 60. The decor was that of a low budget 90's Italian restaurant movie set, with the savory sounds of soft, satellite radio pop permeating the atmosphere. The only thing on the menu below $24.95 was a hot dog. Today was Mickey's "cheat day" so he ordered an ice cold DC and $24.95 hamburger, well done, with cheese. I splurged on the $16.95 hot dog and a tall glass of water. Oui oui! Before we knew it, the diner was full of old, lumpy bodies ready to spend their social security checks on an early lunch. Each plate came with fries (the only "French" portion of either dish), and if you've ever dined at an elementary school cafeteria you'll catch my drift about the quality of said fries. The hotdog was hot though and came with free condiments. After paying the lofty check, the servants rewarded us with some cookies they had just heated up in the microwave and a free refill of water. I think I got "fleeced." Pros: a nice day out on the water with an old friend Cons: the blisters on my thumbs and blow to my wallet

everything we had was worth 5 stars and the service was exceptional. Eric our server has been with Gourmet Diner for a long time and noticed that customers were hugging him on their way out. French onion soup was 2nd best I've ever had savory and Swiss cheesy (my top was made by my French chef brother in law Not in the business.) The escargot was a delicacy I ordered warm french bed to dip in the garlic butter sauce. We also had the brisket sandwich in the au jus was huge size of an entire French loaf baguette. We ended it with Belgian chocolate sundae.

The interior looked old and worn out. The good news is they are moving to a new location, across the street in July. Our server was not the most attentive. The restaurant was slow and I had to flag him down or go get him when we needed something, like to-go boxes. When I told him the bread was stale he was nice enough to bring me 2 more slices of stale bread. We do not live in the area and to not plan to return anytime soon.

Consider that one star a gift to my server Julie who provided nothing but excellent service with a smile on her face. First introductions are everything. My partner and I were dismissed completely by the manager who was too busy chatting it up with solicitors. Not even a simple "I'll be right with you." Julie caught wind of this and immediately swooped in. The menu is pricey but I assumed that the portions would make up for it. This assumption was correct, but my food's presentation was the equivalent to what you'd serve a dog. I ordered the egg salad club with a side of fries; if you're searching for an establishment that cooks with love just leave. The egg salad was unseasoned and I'm unsure that half-smashed boiled eggs constitutes as egg salad. The fries were piled on top as if a tired teenage McDonald's worker was cooking it up in the back. My partner also agreed that their tuna melt was unseasoned. As we were leaving we decided to take a peek at the baked goods. In a final attempt to give this place the benefit of the doubt, we eyed a delectable looking chocolate chip cookie. I called over the employee behind the bakery counter to which she begrudgingly trudged on over. I took another look at the display to solidify what I wanted, but I noticed something unappetizing. FLIES. Not one fly, multiple flies having their way with the baked goods. We told her never mind and left the establishment. Never again will I step foot in this atrocity.

Super disappointed with this place…read more Pros: The potatoes and eggs were good & the hot sauce has great flavor! Cons: First thing I did was use the restroom which had a horrible smell and the toilet needed cleaning. The service was good at first then fell off after we ordered our food- which was strange because it was not busy at all. We ordered the screwdriver & peach Bellini to drink. Steak & eggs and the Untoasted breakfast + side of ham. The screwdriver had an odd taste & the ham was extremely soft/squishy/seemed uncooked internally. The steak was not cooked well- but acceptable enough to eat. Our server never checked on us after we got our food which sucks because we needed a few things. A different server ended up walking by much later and asked if we needed help which is when I told her I'd like to send back the ham and screwdriver- both of which I barely took a bite/sip out of. I just told her I didn't like them and she got a bit of an attitude and wanted specifics as to why I didn't like it. I just reiterated i didn't like it and won't be consuming either so please take it back. We finished our food and no one ever came to our table again- while the workers were walking around helping the 5 other tables or talking amongst themselves. After sitting for 15+ minutes with our finished food, I just went to the front and waited for someone to check us out. I don't recommend this place and will not be back.

The turn in is a bit awkward, but there parking lot was pretty much empty at that time (and completely full by the time we left). I do not have a large car and the spots are super narrow. If you drive a truck, I would not try to park in the inner lot in front of the entrance. The place is clearly LGBT friendly; kudos for the pride flags out front. I immediately felt like I was walking into a hipster cafe in Cali. You order and pay inside; get a table number and the bring your food and drinks out to you. There's indoor and outdoor seating. I got the secret pita and golden latte. Service was relatively quick. Drink came then food shortly after. I totally wasn't thinking when I got the golden latte. It was a bit warm outside for a hot latte but I wanted to try something unique. Hard to describe but I enjoyed it. It came with granola on the dish. Not sure if you are supposed to throw it in. The squirrels and birds ended up eating mine. Yes, there was a lot of wildlife that was not shy. The squirrel was literally eating out of my hand and would have sat on our table if my friend allowed it. The bird flew in and did just that though. Came back for seconds a few times. Then as the place got busier, they must have gone off to bother others. As an animal lover, this was a fun perk but may be a turn off to some. The presentation for the pita was unexpected. I had to open a the box to get to my meal. You can choose how the egg is cooked. I went with the default sunny side up. The chorizo hit. Hummus was ok. Kind of bland. I didn't care for olives and picked the fruit off my dessert pita. Felt like I had enough pita carbs by the time I got to it. The ambiance was mostly peaceful. They do play music which was on the border of getting too loud. Coffee was pricy but all coffee is now. The food was also on the high end. This would be a major factor on whether to come back. I don't recall anything unique on the menu aside from the pita. The menu appears to change seasonally though.
