    S1. Hot and Sour Soup
    Kelly C.

Wanted some American Chinese food takeout for a quick pick me up from a pretty stressful day. We stopped by Gourmet Garden to try it out and ordered some classics. It's located in the Village Shoppes in Canton, super cute area. They've got a few restaurants, an Urgent Care, spas, shopping like Marshall's and the LOFT, gyms, grocery stores, flower shop, toy store, nails and much more. Love the convenience! We got: HOT AND SOUR SOUP I absolutely love hot and sour soup, but this was super bland. I was pretty disappointed by how it lacked a slightly spicy component and sour component. I just wish there was more flavor and spices in it. If it had been labeled as special egg drop soup I think that would be more appropriate. Would not get again. PU PU PLATTER An assortment of favorites, the best way to have a little of everything in my opinion. The pu pu platter came with a deep fried egg roll, fried chicken wings, crispy chicken fingers, beef teriyaki sticks, deep fried shrimp, and boneless spare ribs. The egg roll was delicious, perfectly crispy with some tasty minced pork, carrots and cabbage. The chicken wings were golden and crispy when you bit into them, but man was that meat juicy and well brined. Just delicious. The chicken fingers had the perfect crunch when you bit into them, but that batter was light and you could tell they were fried in new fryer oil. Just perfect. The chicken was moist with just enough salt. So tasty. Beef teriyaki was just classic, saucy, well flavored and tender meat on a stick. Doesn't get any better than that! Deep fried shrimp was tasty, the batter was spot on and the meat was pretty tender. The sweet dipping sauce went perfectly to complement all the fried goods. Boneless spare ribs were sooo yummy I always put them on a spoonful of pork fried rice. I'm telling you that's the way to do it! So much flavor and perfect ratio of meat in that bite! Loved their pu pu platter. CHICKEN FINGERS Gave these babies their own spotlight picture because these were some of the best chicken fingers I've had this year! I love a good crispy chicken finger, but I noticed that most of the time the batter will be deliciously crispy and have the crunch I want, but the meat was dry and unsalted. This was not the case the meat was moist and lightly salted and the dipping sauce in your mouth was just amazing. PORK FRIED RICE I've always thought of pork fried rice as one of the GOATs in American Chinese food. You have everything you could want on rice, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, oyster sauce, BBQ pork, scrambled eggs, onions, bean sprouts, and chives. Their pork fried rice was well cooked and seasoned. Every bite was just delicious and so nostalgic. It was pretty busy when we arrived to pick up our takeout, but everyone was having a good time all around us. There's Chinese food, Japanese food with sashimi and sushi, and hibachi for an interactive dining affair here. Quite an all inclusive restaurant, very impressive. The staff were really friendly and quick to attend to us. Would definitely come back again to dine in!

Gourmet Garden located in Canton, MA literally does everything from hibachi grills, to sushi/sashimi, to Thai dishes, to Chinese dishes. Really large restaurant and they were very busy, probably short on staff. Food took a long time to come. We did order sushi and it was not too bad. Sashimi was more fresh than sushi. The Chinese dishes were more geared towards Americans.

Yu Hsiang Eggplant $9.70. Crab Rangoon $9.70. Chicken Chow Mein, Boneless Ribs $9.70. Shanghai Boneless Duck $16.25. Pad Thai. Hot Sour Soup

I had low expectations of this place while reading recent reviews. I wanted to give this place a try anyway, and think it is around 3.5/4 stars. I came across this place because I had a paper manufacture coupon. You get $5 off $30 order and $10 off $60 order. I placed the order on its website and when picked up, I didn't realize the coupon only applies to cash payment. So if you pay for credit card, you don't get the discount. Next time then. This is what I ordered: Yu Hsiang Eggplant [Lunch], $9.70 - I'd definitely order this again! So tasty! Crab Rangoon, $9.70 - likely will reorder. Definitely have had better crab rangoon, but it is not terrible. Chicken Chow Mein, Boneless Ribs, $9.70 - definitely won't order again, and I think they probably mixed up the order on this one. I don't think what I got was actually chow mein. Shanghai Boneless Duck [Lg.], $16.25 - will probably order it again. The sauce and flavor are very good, but not a lot of duck in the actual dish. Shrimp Pad Thai [Lg], 1$12.00 - will reorder as well. Pretty good. Hot & Sour Soup [Sm.] $5.25 - it is okay. It comes with crunchy side, which is a plus. The pork fried rice that came with the lunch special is actually pretty good. They are not drowned in soy sauce, so that was good. Overall a good meal with lots of leftover. The Google Maps direction is not very accurate. It is towards the back side of the strip mall and you may have to drive around a bit to find it. It is very spacious inside with plenty of tables. Staff all had face mask on. Nice decor!

Disappointed with the $15 Gourmet special! The presentation was bad and the taste resembled leftover sushi hastily combined. I wouldn't recommend it, not worth the price or your time.

One-half of an order of "fresh made shumai." You can buy better frozen shumai at a market for one-twentieth of the cost!

Very very disappointing! Their hot & sour soup has a few red pepper flakes, and zero taste. I had to add black vinegar, soy, sesame oil, white pepper and chili oil. I could have bought cheap broth at Shaw's and been more satisfied. Menu says their Shumai are "made fresh." If so, it was made several years ago and then frozen. My advice: leave it frozen! Disgusting food! People at the reception desk (take out) never greeted me, nor even told me how much was owed. Never again. Do yourself a favor: go somewhere else!

They offer lunch and dinner specials/combos at reasonable prices. The place is order at the counter with open kitchen and there is hard booths for eating inside. I stopped by Sakura Japan in Brockton for lunch takeout recently. I decided to go with the B6 Salmon Teriyaki Bento Box ($16.99 plus tax-Lunch) which includes choice of rice, soup, appetizer, sushi roll, and salad, sauces provided. I was also given a complementary iced sweet lemonade too. My food was all set in about 10 minutes. The portion size for the bento box lunch was very good, compared to other Asian places near my home, which tend to skimp on bento box portions. The grilled salmon was very tender over the fresh cooked vegetable fried rice. The hot & sour soup (pint) was very hot and had good mild spicy flavors. The fried dumplings were crispy outside. The California Roll with wasabi, ginger, and soy sauce was very good, as the Seaweed Salad was a good side for the sushi. I enjoyed half of my lunch in the restaurant and enjoyed the rest when I got home.

Went back for a dinner a year after the big "under new management" change. Interesting findings…read more -- Egg Rolls: A little small, a little dry, but nicely crisp, old school celery filling, and VERY intense BBQ pork flavor inside. Almost like a pork bun. A little above average thanks to the flavor. -- Chinatown Ribs: Not available when they first did the new management thing, but their signature babybacks are back, at least as a special. A different cut from the spares, these are a little pricey at $28, and odd cutting-- some wide, some narrow-- but very thick (2" in spots) and very juicy. Just enough glaze, and thankfully not all over the cross sections, because these fresh-cooked ribs have nothing to hide and need no crutch (I'm looking at you, Jasmine Garden). Very pleasant flavor. Near-elite. -- Yu Hsiang Beef (on a combo): Yes, they do dinner combos. The beef was very tender, with pleasant spicy flavor and sweetness to balance it out. It seems the sweetness is a new twist; I preferred the version I had twice a year ago that was much more spicy and savory, but this was good. Nice assortment of peppers and wood ear mushrooms. Above average. -- Spareribs (on a combo): Had to try these too. These changed a little from a year ago (previously near-elite once and elite once)-- not as thick and no scoring of the surface. Delicious glaze, but dry and probably a reheat. Will definitely get these again, but as a full order, not as extras plopped onto a combo. A little below average, but still some good signs. -- Pork Fried Rice (on a combo): Dry. Muted flavor. Below average. -- General Gau's Chicken: Very crispy and staying crispy throughout the meal, these flattened, bumpy mini cutlets had quality chicken, good tenderness, and a complex sauce mixing heat into the sweet the way the General is supposed to but which most don't. Caramelly delicious. Near-elite to elite. Some bumps in the road still, but still plenty to like.

The food was top quality and the atmosphere was on point. Genuinely one of the nicest experiences I have had with Hibachi in the state since moving here from Chicago. 10/10 would come again despite the 30 minute drive.

There was plenty of parking, and upon walking in the restaurant looked very clean. Since it was close to closing and I had called ahead, we were seated right away at a hibachi table with just the two of us. There was an extremely loud birthday party seated next to us, but that's not the restaurant's fault. While ordering, I wanted to get appetizers and sushi before our hibachi meal, but I felt a little rushed by our server. On a previous visit I remembered there being a Tuesday appetizer special (I thought it was half off), but when I asked, I was told they had never offered that promotion. Food: * Rock & Roll Roll - 8/10: Fresh and tasty, although the crab had a slightly stronger smell than I'd prefer. * Shrimp Tempura Roll - 9/10: Very good, but I asked for extra eel sauce and was given barely a tablespoon. * Steak & Shrimp Hibachi - 5/10: The flavor was excellent and everything was cooked exactly as requested, but the portions were surprisingly small for the price. * Chicken & Steak Hibachi - 5/10: Again, the flavor was great, but the portions were disappointing. We ordered extra chicken, which ended up being a good decision because the regular portion was very small. Each plate had less than a cup of rice, and although I requested extra mushrooms instead of zucchini and carrots, that substitution wasn't made. * Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings - 10/10: Easily one of the best items we ordered. Perfectly crispy with great seasoning and just the right amount of spice. * Scallion Pancakes - 9/10: Crispy and flavorful, but they could have used more scallions and a larger portion of dipping sauce. Drinks: I ordered a lemon drop martini made with tequila, but it tasted like it was made with vodka. I asked if it could be replaced, but that request was declined. They brought me pineapple juice to try to make it more drinkable, but it didn't help, and the drink still remained on the bill. That was definitely a 0/10 experience. Our hibachi chef was fantastic. He was engaging, acknowledged my fiancé's birthday, and honestly made up for the lackluster service we received from our waiter. One thing diners should be aware of is that an 18% service charge is automatically added to the bill, but it isn't verbally mentioned. It's listed as a "service charge" on the receipt, so it's easy to overlook if you're not paying attention. I asked about it to confirm, then tipped our hibachi chef separately because he deserved it. The receipt also includes wording encouraging additional gratuity, which could easily lead guests to tip twice if they don't notice the automatic charge. Overall, the food quality and flavors were still good, and the hibachi chef made the experience enjoyable. However, the rushed service, disappointing portion sizes, drink issue, and lack of transparency about the automatic service charge kept this visit from living up to our previous experiences.
