Before the pandemic we used to come and sit at the bar or at a table. Sushi and Chinese food was always good. Lately we've tried takeout sushi and it did not disappoint. What is disappointing is the scheduling for pick up. Multiple times we've been told a pick up time only to have to wait a half hour or more once arriving at the designated time. Last night was the final straw causing us to seriously considering not coming back. Because it was Christmas eve we ordered over 24 hours in advance and confirmed a 6:30 pick up time. We told them we had a $10.00 coupon for cash but was told we could not use it because it said not valid on Christmas. It says no such thing (Photo attached) but we agreed. During the day I was called and told they could not do a special order on Christmas Eve. All I asked for was no onions but agreed it was OK. At 10 minute intervals beginning at 6:30 I requested an update. My phone number was taken and was told they would check; each time no return with any information. At 7:00 I asked again and was told they were making one more dish and we were next. A couple minutes later it came out. Most all others waiting were complaining. I know it was Christmas eve but this is a mature business who requested ordering well in advance to avoid this problem. People have places to go and schedule is very important. Also, this has happened on many other non holiday occasions. The Chinese food itself was only fair. The ribs were fatty. The egg foo young came with no sauce and the vegetable fried rice was basically plain white with minimal vegetables and no flavor. We ordered chicken with cashews and broccoli and got no broccoli but with carrots, celery, and peppers. With all the competing restaurants in the area, you'd think they would want to do a better job to get repeat business. read more

went there a couple times: eat-in, take-out, you name it. eat-in experience: - nice decor - ok service - food's ok - menu looks enticing with all the "health" options take-out experience: - relatively quick (weekend midday) - good service - food...see below overall: - plenty of food selections (cooked food, sushi, even tappanyaki!...i mean "hibachi".) - pricing ranges from cheap to moderate, depending on what you're ordering (ex. under $10 lunch special, ~$10-15 specialty sushi roll) why i couldn't exactly bump them up to the fan-tastic side of stars, is because: 1) they have ingredients stuffed in a sushi roll that are not listed on the menu; and 2) as a result of (1), i had to force down a roll that i ordered for my husband who now couldn't eat it, and each bite became increasingly torturous for me. i was at the verge of calling the $6 a loss and just throw the whole roll away, but i couldn't bring myself to waste food like that (stupid, yeah i know). in all fairness, once a raw salmon lover, i have signed off on most salmon products (raw or cooked) of late, due to various reasons, but--making long story short--mainly because i got sick of that taste of raw salmon. the raw, untreated salmon. i'm in no way insinuating that GG is using sub-par product (which i have no way to find out), but that roll just grossed me out. again, maybe it wouldn't have bothered my husband, but i just...couldn't take it. i'm not sure if they treated it--raw salmon needs to be treated, and should be sushi grade to be served raw--but...that roll... just reminded me of the image of $5.99/lb salmon slabs sitting on a bed of ice in a chinese market fish department. i even found a fish scale in the roll!! the other roll that i had a bite of, it's alright. not as "umami" as toro should be (and totally NOT worth $10!), but still a WORLD better than the salmon i just had. bleh.... other lunch items were ok: hub liked his chow foon (if a bit oily), my beef teriyaki wasn't excessively sweet and artificial like i've had at other places, the chicken wings was good (not dried up inside, reasonably "crispy" sitting in a take-out box). would return when occasions arise, but in no rush to do so, since value for money can really fluctuate depending on what you're ordering. read more

I've been here a couple of times since moving to Canton. I think the food here is pretty decent, although my friends' reviews have been mixed. The shrimp dishes are great, and I love the atmosphere here. It's definitely a lot classier than the usual suburban establishments. I'd come here over Bertucci's or Halfway Cafe any day. They have a classy looking bar, with the bottles nicely displayed. They also have hibachi, which I am excited to try at some point. It's usually pretty quiet here on weeknights, so it's great for catching up with friends over dinner. read more

Went to Gourmet Garden last night with two of my friends and it was delicious! We went to the Hibachi side, of course. I had chicken, fried rice and shrimp and it was delicious. Everything was cooked to perfection! You definitely go for the show..which was pretty good. It seemed there was a much better chef at a different hibachi. BUT, ours was definitely still good. A little pricey, but the sushi was fantastic! My biggest downfall was the service...it was so slow! My fiance and I had ordered 2 apps and 2 maki rolls. Only one of the apps came out about 15 minutes after ordering. The second app and both maki rolls came out another 20 minutes later. Maybe it took so long because it was somewhat busy, but I wish our server would have said something to us. Otherwise, the food was delicious! I highly recommend the "AMAZING" appetizer! read more

Chinese dining outside of China Town can be a major roll of the dice. Gourmet Garden in Canton consistently delivers high quality food and service at a reasonable price. We come here regularly with my father in law, mainly for the sushi. I completely agree with other reviewers, this is the best sushi outside of Boston. My father in law and I are addicted to the Maki rolls. Spider Maki, Celtic Maki, New Wave Maki.... take your pick, always consistently excellent. Sure I've tried their Pad Thai and Crispy Beef. Both were excellent. But I keep coming back to the sushi. My wife always gets the Pu Pu platter for one. Always super fresh! The boneless spare ribs are tender with a hint of garlic. Chicken fingers and fried shrimp are served batter fried and are never greasy. She always substitutes crab rangoons for the egg rolls. Which is never a problem. The reward are some of the best crab rangoons ever! We have never had a bad service experience either. The waitstaff are friendly and attentive. The decor is modern but still inviting. One note though, it does get loud as the dining room fills up. If you are looking for an Asian dining experience that is a cut above the average local Chinese joint, then I suggest you give Gourmet Garden a try. read more

My favorite Chinese place in the area. All the food I've had has been incredible so far, including some of the best pork fried rice I've ever had, plus tender, perfectly marinated beef teriyaki. Also have phenomenal crab rangoons, chicken fingers, and non greasy Io mein. The sesame chicken was ok, but very far from true traditional recipe. But the best part about gourmet is the atmosphere. Very open, modern setting. They have booths, full bar, a sushi bar, and several hibachi tables. My wife and I tried out the Hibachi booth after a bad experience next door at Bertucci's. It was a birthday dinner, early week, so we landed a solo show. My first real experience in this style. Sweet. I only take a star off because the service was on the slow side, and the dude spoke extremely little English. Which is fine, especially in a Japanese family restaurant.. I get that. But I had no idea what the hell was going on until he hit me in the face with some zucchini. Again, I'm a rookie. So I ordered a filet mignon and lobster tail(with Maine in parentheses) with veggies for $25. Come on. Can't be for serious. Not bad. It was a real sweet cut of beef, and fresh 'tail, with a decent little show. It didn't exactly seem like they had their aces on, but acceptable for a real slow Tuesday night. Would do again. First of all, delivery is fairly quick but you miss the hibachi presentation which is always fun, exciting and chances are you'll meet some interesting people. The food is delicious, although when ordering delivery during a high-demand time, expect your food to be slightly less than piping hot. The only thing I would say is that you need to specify if you have a shellfish allergy as some of the menu items don't say that there is shellfish in it (specifically the fresh Vietnamese rolls which normally come vegetarian, are in fact made with shellfish). read more

This is the best new restaurant in Canton. It's a strong rival to Takara...my wife and I like The Gourmet better. We get take-out/delivery from here every week, and eaten at the restaurant several times as well. I love the modern decor of the place, and the bartenders make some killer drinks. The sushi is on par with the best places we've frequented here in the Boston area. Fugakyu in Brookline (better sushi, but you're paying $$$$ for it). Village Sushi in Rozzy (a hidden gem with patio dining). Our sushi roll go-to's at GG are Idaho, Crazy, Hawaiian, Spicy Tuna/Salmon, Caterpillar, and Alaskan. The a-la cate sushi is great as well. Really fresh. The best Mackerel I've ever had...full flavor and not fishy. They use healthy ingredients and it shows. I've had some of the Chinese as well, which was also good. Great Lo Mein. Haven't done the $1 Oysters or Hibachi yet. The staff is also stellar. The smiley delivery driver with the mustache rules! The food was good, the restaurant is crowded and you don't have to wait very long. We had a very large party and sat at the hibachi table. Parking is also easy later in the afternoon as the mall/shopping plaza gets less crowded. We had a ton of different things on the hibachi table. I told him I was very disappointed and thought it was unprofessional to advertise deliver to a certain address, process the order, have my credit card charged then then decide the address is to far. It was my first time here and I have to say I'm pretty impressed compared to some of the other hibachi/teppanyaki places in the area. I got the organic teriyaki chicken set which also came with a few shrimp (as an appetizer), fried rice, and vegetables. We also got a side of Kobe beef to share which was amazing. The chicken was tender and the teriyaki sauce wasn't too overpowering. The normal dinner set was more than enough food already but my group decided to order more food. We tried the raw oysters and the salmon sashimi. The oysters were pretty fresh and I would recommend them but only during their $1 per oyster happy hour special. The salmon was alright. I do find the interior of the place very nicely designed, however the food was kind've average. I thought the Hot and Sour Soup was okay as with the Egg rolls, but the Hunan Chicken fairly bland tasting with no unique flavor. All I can taste is the sweet, salty and spiciness of the dish and that's all. The slice chicken meat was somewhat cold tasting and the there was a bit too much moisture. Above average hibachi and hibachi place sushi. We have been here many times and the meals are good. Interesting that the hibachi is priced on how many different meat/fish you get and not what it is. Always go for the better cut since there is no up charge. Also you can upgrade the kids meal to filet if you want for a minimal price. I suggest you get the fried rice with your meal. Also as a side note- they did a very good job with the decor and have a good bar area if you like eating at the bar (I don't mean sushi bar). We went to try the hibachi for the first time! We first were seated and then a waitress came over to serve us. You could tell right away that she hated her job and was in a bad mood. Ive been here twice. The first time we had Hibachi and it was great. It was very amusing to see the chefs great performance infront of us. The waitress served us was kind and took time to explain the menu item to us. The second time we had a quick lunch here. The lunch deal is decent, but the food was kind of mediocre, nothing spectacular. I ordered the shirmp and lobster sauce and expected it to be a soupy dish with shrimps and veggies like most other Chinese restaurant would offer. But it came up with pork in it, which i do not eat. After i talked with the manager, he was kind enough to change my meal. So i picked chicken w/garlic sauce instead. I took my family here on a Saturday and went early. We couldn't believe how busy the place was already at 5pm. The service was very good and they seemed ready for the people that were starting to stream in. We opted to skip the hibachi and just get a regular table. We started with a plate of sushi. They looked very attractive and came with ample amounts of ginger and wasabi. I don't remember exactly the items we got, though I remember the eel and the fried shrimp rolls were excellent. The salmon sashimi also tasted very fresh and in retrospect I wish we had ordered more. For the main course we opted for shrimp fried rice, a beef and vegetable dish, and salt & pepper squid. The shrimp fried rice was tasty and not too heavy on the soy sauce. It was a bit spicy for my tastes so you may want to ask for it to be made less spicy. The beef and vegetable dish was not fancy (and we weren't expected it to be) and was executed well. I really enjoyed the salt and pepper squid. It's one of my favorite dishes to order and again they executed very well. Finally we finished up with some fried ice cream. My daughter loved the ice cream and I thought both the flavor and the serving size was quite good. We enjoyed our meal and are planning on visiting again soon. read more

I had the pleasure of going to the Gourmet Garden with my brother and his family. The owner went out of his way to make our visit spectacular. The food is delicious and the prices are good. We had a great time and walked away very satisfied and full. If you haven't tried this hidden gem I highly recommend it. We drank the Scorpion which really packed a punch. One item we ordered was lots of fun and delish . You get to cook your own food on this cute little grill. The food is delicious and the presentation is formidable to Zagat rated eateries. The food quality is very good except for rice, which seemed drenched in soy sauce(pork fried rice)or just bland (white rice) tried both each time. The service is not good at all, they don't really pay attention to your drinks/ napkins etc. they always manage to not bring one of the items you ordered and throw it on your bill even if you do not get it.(happened to me the first time i went).
