I wanted to find something niche-y in the area. I moved to the area and looked at yelp and saw this place. At first I was a little leery of the outside. Not sure how to take it. But what made me decide to go in was seeing how many people kept going in. It does get really crowded. My sever was really nice. And though she didn't check up on me too much, (there was a birthday party that required her) i didn't really need too much. She got my order in and explained the menu. The food was pretty good. I did like the food. The downfall of the restaurant where the two girls in front answering the phones. I understand they were busy answering phones but they never acknowledged me. They did not ask how was dinner, or anything. They lacked the personal skills that other restaurants have. A "hi how are you?" And a "thank you" goes a long way. The one girl when ringing me how did not hand me back my card, she almost tossed it towards me. If they would have been more polite this restaurant would get a lot better review. Have been eating here since opening, several decades ago. Food quality has remained consistent and quantity for cost is good. The business is family owned, and extends from the making to the serving, and it has always been a pleasure. If you are looking for 'new age' cooking, don't come here! I got a Gramboli's Pizza for the first time yesterday. I have to say it is the best pizza I have ever tasted. My wife insisted I go as a treat and boy was it. She really knows how to treat me.:-} I know I will be recommending Gramboli's to everyone I talk to now. And to think I've been wasting money on Little Cesar's all this time. We weren't greeted as we walked in. We seated our selfs. The waitress did get our drinks but failed to come back to get our order. We waited 15 minutes we asked the bust boy if someone could take down our order. Our waitress finally came back. Took another 20 minutes to get the appetizer. I was already a Gramboli's Pizza fan prior to trying this location. Our deep dish pizza was perfectly baked and delicious. It's so hard to find a decent deep dish pizza in town, and I can't recommend theirs enough. The breadsticks are crusty on the outside and light and airy on the inside. Awesome! We have eaten here one other time. The food and service was decent, if unremarkable. Our second visit was a different story entirely. We ordered an appetizer to eat while waiting for our deep dish pizza to come up. We got the stuffed mushrooms. Which were generally tasty until I reached the last bite and bit in to something I had assumed was burnt cheese. Much to my disappointment, that was not the case. The black carbonized flake of something was completely inedible and smelled of chemicals. I brought the Owner over (who was pulling double duty as our server) to notify him that we had been served something inedible. Whether it was a flake from something burnt up in the salamander or a piece of plastic that had melted, all I could say was that this item was not food. I began to explain my concerns to the Owner when he interrupted and insisted that it was, in fact, burnt cheese. It was absolutely not burnt cheese and I told the individual this but he was adamant in his refusal to entertain this idea. It was then that he became rude and hostile, at various points asking me whether I owned a restaurant (irrelevant to knowing whether something is edible or not) and "welcoming" me to the Eastside after I suggested that I wasn't trying to get anything out of the deal (merely attempting to inform him we had been served a plate with inedible material on it). I was born and raised on the Eastside. I have had MANY overwhelmingly positive interactions with local restauranteurs and other business owners. Never have I been treated so poorly merely for having the gall to bring up an issue with food service. We shop, eat and support local businesses specifically because I am a lifer on the Eastside. We want these places to succeed because they took a chance on the often overlooked side of town my wife and I call home. To be treated so poorly is an embarassment and an indictment on the poor business habits of this individual. We will never return and I intend to tell anyone who will listen to do the same. Great experience at the new and improved location. The breadsticks were amazing and just like I remembered at their previous location. The pizza was great too and the service was very friendly. Nice place to take the family out to eat or watch a game on their big screen and for a reasonable price. We will definitely be back! read more

This place has awesome pizza. Their ingredients are good, and the prices are reasonable. We lived in Lawrence for three years, and every night, we got pizza. I grew up on the east side, so I grew up on this stuff. Once we moved to Lawrence, i knew Iif would be grambolis on Friday. But that all ended with too many bouts of just piss poor customer service. I don't know if the hype has gotten the better of these people, or what, but their service is crap. I'm talking carry-out, or eat-in. And the childish managers they hire are a joke. I get it that it's family owned, that does not mean they get to work there, and treat people like crap. I like the food, but it's not worth the hassle. The people who answer their phones are the worst as well. It's always some idiot teen girl with the brains of a dead animal, and the attitude of a thug. It's really a shame too because if they figured out that customers are key, they might do a lot better. Avoid this place if you can, but if you cant, do carry out that you order at the counter, not over the phone, they will screw it up, and then blame you. read more

We have eaten at Gramboli's at least 6 or 7 times as a group of 4, 6, or 10. They have a nice party room for group dinners, and you can actually hear each other talk. The deep dish Gramboli's special is our favorite. My kids go for a plain hand-tossed pepperoni. Each time, the pizza has been excellent. Not sure where the complaints are coming from. We have not tried the lunch buffet though. read more

One star for poor customer service and policy. Ordered take-out and then got home only to realize they made the wrong pizza. Considered just eating the wrong $17 pizza but this wasn't the first time we had received a wrong order and in all the previous occasions we had never said anything and determined it wasn't worth the phone call and drive. I should have known when I called and they said "we won't make you a new pizza until you drive back and we look at what was wrong." So I drove 10 minutes back to the store and they admitted it was a "miscommunication" between the server (taking phone order) and the kitchen. However, I was told that since the pizza had pepperoni (which was the ONLY correct thing about the pizza) their policy was to give me a store credit for just the pizza crust and sauce since that was the "wrong" part of the pizza. No apology for wrong pizza and no offer to remake correct pizza. Just a store credit for sauce and crust. We won't be back. read more
