Hubs and I decided to come here for dinner one night. We were immediately seated after arriving. Hubs ordered Mussels Fra Diavolo, which was Mussels over linguine in their fresh made Fra Diavolo Sauce. He thought it could use a bit more herbs but he was thought it was surprisingly good for a diner. I liked the linguini alot because the sauce was chunky and not thinned out. I had the Mama's Meatloaf, which was meatloaf with mushroom gravy, potatoes and vegetables. I liked the meatloaf because it was nice and soft. The reason why I deducted a star was because hub's cup was sticky by the rim and it was unidentifiable. He flagged a waiter down and quickly got a new cup. Other than this, the food was pretty good. Service was quick and friendly. In my opinion, the prices were kind of high for a diner. Will probably return and try other items on the menu. read more

A rare find in New York City. This place has the charm and friendliness of a classic diner but in a modern atmosphere. The menu has some diner classics for sure but contains a bunch of modern brunch and lunch plates. They do brunch 7 days a week and the food is consistently good. Their Chicken and Rice soup is THE BEST. Super filling- large pieces of chicken and super tasty and not too much rice but not too little. I get it every Wednesday and Sunday when they have it. Perfect spot for a relaxed weekend breakfast especially on a rainy NYC morning. I had the avocado toast with poached eggs which I love! Fantastic spot! Check it out for sure! But do Not get the Belgian waffles!! This spot had excellent atmosphere, courteous and personable staff, and a wide selection of foods to choose from. Truly something for everyone and very warm and comforting. Tried many spots while staying in East Village and this is the only one I plan on coming Back to. But! Their belgian waffle was the crunchiest waffle I have ever eaten (including toaster eggos). Not sure how they managed it; though the flavor was pretty good after I surrendered to the crunch. My wife and I have been to GK a couple of times since it opened. It's newly renovated and the place looks great. The staff is friendly, the host and owners greet you with coffee when it's crowded and your water is always full. It has a good vibe. In my opinion, the neighborhood needed a solid diner and I initially thought that's what Gramercy Kitchen would be. It kind of is but is trying to be a more upscale establishment. Nothing wrong with that. I'm glad to see they lowered their price of an eggs, potatoes and toast dish. I love eggs. I've made them every weekend for as long as I can remember. I know how an egg needs to be cooked. I've ordered poached eggs and over medium from GK and both times the white part was undercooked and runny. The yolk should be runny when you order eggs Benedict, but the white needs to be cooked. This is a cardinal sin for me. It's a shame because I like the place and the people inside, but if you can't cook an egg, I have no reason to return. The homes fries are amazing. The coffee is good. One other small thing which kinda bugs me is that I've smelt B.O. on multiple members of the staff. Its very unfortunate as it lingers and ruins any smell of food in the area. I was hoping to find another go-to spot when Gramercy Kitchen opened. It's good enough, but unfortunately, not my go-to. Ordered GK on Postmates this evening and had to make a change to my order after it had already been placed. I contacted the restaurant, since Postmates doesn't have an online option, and the gentleman who greeted me over the phone was beyond kind and accommodating. This restaurant went above and beyond when I left something in a napkin on the table and it was thrown away. I came back a half hour later and the table was cleaned off so I knew it had been thrown out. They went through the trash until they found it. I was so appreciative. We frequently have ordered the chicken souvlaki platter & usually it's very good. This evening they sent it without salad. The chicken was hard & tasteless, basically inedible. They sent about 6 tony pieces of this awful stuff & a ton of soggy French fries. All going in the trash!!! When I called to complain the manager was rude & wouldn't make good. So I basically through away $20 & am really hungry!!! read more

We stumbled into GRAMERCY Kitchen after spending the morning in Stuyvestant Square. What a serendipitous choice. The food was delish and the wait staff amazing. And the portions....Mama Mia! I will be having the other half of my spinach and feta omelette on the train to D.C.tomorrow. Highly recommend that you give this place a try when in GRAMERCY, or in New York City for that matter! This diner had been restored, and got new furniture. The food was good, and the red velvet cake was served as a small cake.

I agree completely with the other one star reviews. I waited 10 minutes for coffee (tepid) and 15 minutes more for a simple BLT ( was charged for a BALET...bacon, avocado, lettuce, egg, and tomato). I was starting to leave after waiting 20 minutes for the sandwich but the waitress insisted that it was ready. Not quite the case but I did get it. Chaos reigned. The gentleman at the table next to me was served a second lunch while he was signing the check for the one he had already consumed. Granted, this was on the Friday of the first week. I live in the neighborhood and ate at the former Gramercy Cafe very often. I'm not giving up on the Gramercy Kitchen but will wait a few weeks until I try it again. read more

Everything was fresh & delicious. From the chocolate milk and OJ to the eggs, pancakes & bacon. My fav was definitely the French toast.

Horrible service. Waitress would not make eye contact with us. We had to ask other wait staff for more coffee and for the bill. She only came to collect her tip. Other tables were also having problems with their service. With so many other restaurants to go to in the area, I would recommend skipping this place. Would definitely not be coming back. read more

What a great addition to the neighborhood! I came here on a Monday night for dinner. The menu includes breakfast all day, finger foods, dessert, and entrees. There is certainly a lot of variety to the menu to appeal to all kinds of palettes. My sister ordered the avocado toast, I got an omelette and my brother got a chicken Caesar salad. Everything was cooked to perfection and delicious. The staff was so nice and accommodating and even gave each of us free rice pudding for dessert! The rice pudding was so yummy too. The next day, I thought I might have left something behind. I called the restaurant, and they said nothing had turned up, but they volunteered to take my number and double check my booth. They called me back shortly thereafter to say nothing had turned up. I really appreciated that the restaurant took the time to look into this and call me back. The food is not necessarily BAD...but mediocre at best. Came for brunch and ordered avocado eggs Benedict and smoked salmon avocado toast. Both dishes could have been made better by even the most amateur chef. The ingredients used were simply not good. For example, the bread used for the toast looked and tasted like what I used to get from my college dining hall. The smoked salmon made my boyfriend sick for the rest of the day, and the prosciutto on my eggs Benedict definitely tasted off to say the least (yes it was prosciutto, not ham - their rendition). Also the portion sizes were quite small considering the prices. Complete waste of $50. read more

I ate here 3 days in a row and it was great. I was very calm early in the morning but it got a-lot more busy. The food on the first 2 days was really good aswell as the service. On the third day however I ordered a belgium waffle and was forced to wait 10 more minutes than the rest of my friends for my food. I was appaled by the last or service. When the waffle came it was very burnt and flavorless, it was like eating paper. So if you come here make sure you come early in the morning and dont order the waffles. read more

I really wanted to like this place, since I live in the neighborhood and would love a moderately-priced diner with high quality food close by, however this place meets neither of those criteria. The food is bland and not particularly fresh or made with high-quality ingredients, and the prices are much higher than they should be for what you get. Great spot to not only stop in while in the neighborhood but also to make a trip out to even if it's out of the way! I came in to try it from Brooklyn and had a beautiful time. Food is fantastic, service is on point, and very family friendly environment. I went there with wife and 8 month old son. To find a restaurant with great food paired with excellent coffee/ espresso that makes you feel like you are in a piazza in Italy, is hard to come by. John K., the floor manager, was a host beyond words. Keeping the service spot on whilst making relationships with everyone who walked in the door. In a changing New York City, to find a spot with a "homegrown neighborhood" feel is like finding white truffles in Central Park, rare. Gramercy Kitchen, has "neighborhood spot" written all over the place. If Seinfeld was coming back on air, they would film in Gramercy Kitchen. read more

I had always passed by this location and always wanted to try it and it was a letdown. The food was mediocre as well expensive and the service was horrendous. My girlfriend and I arrived around 10:45 and placed our orders a few minutes later. It was considered brunch and we ordered a couple of Mimosas but we were told that they can not serve alcohol because it is against NY state law to serve alcohol before 12 pm. I left this alone and proceeded to order food. I ordered lobster Benedict with eggs and my girlfriend ordered Peanut Butter pancakes. 1) my girlfriends order was incorrect 2) the lobster Benedict was so small and it had about 3-4 pieces of lobster for $20. I thought that it was rather expensive for such a small portion considering other locations I could have gone to. When we informed the waitress of the incorrect order for the pancakes it took about 15 minutes for her to comeback with peanut butter from a jar, not even melted or warm and by that time we were done with our food. Throughout our dining we were hardly noticed by our waitress but she was highly attentive to other patrons and I had to get a different waiter a couple of times to ask for something. I can say this was probably the worst dining experience I have ever received. read more

Months waiting for this place to finish renovating and open. Finally went there with my daughter for lunch. The renovation is very nice but is it a diner or a restaurant? It's neither! The Lycric, a few blocks north on 22nd Street tried this approached and failed. Everyone wanted the diner back. The Lyric is now serving diner food again. The new Gramercy Kitchen has no identity and the kitchen is trying too hard to be what it is not. The menu is terribly confusing and for lunch I was looking for the sandwich section which really didn't exist. I ordered a simple tuna fish on rye toast and they brought out a tasteless tuna melt caked in melted generic cheese with french fries in the shape of ears??? Our waiter was inexperienced and apparently didn't listen. My daughter's pancakes were over priced and pale in color. A good restaurant would serve real maple syrup, not Kraft Pancake syrup in a disposable plastic container. A totally new direction is needed or else the rent will never be paid. The competition on Third Avenue is white-knuckle fierce. You've got to do better. Look at all you've invested. Give people what they want, not what you think they want. The Lyric learned that lesson. I gave one star in order to post, but it's not even worth that. Good luck. read more
