Had a delicious lunch at Gramma Dot's yesterday. 4 of us walked in around 1:00 and were seated immediately. Great menu of fish, seafood, traditional lunch sandwiches, salads, and mains, soft drinks and cocktail....even Lobster Bisque! Lively and friendly crowd and nice wait staff. Started with conch fritters to share...as good as the Bahamas! Tender, beautifully fried and stuffed with conch. The chicken salad sandwich was delicious and the lobster roll was as good as any I have had in New England...big, perfectly cooked pieces of lobster, just a little mayo and a surprise ingredient of dill complemented the lobster. Two in our patry had the blackened mahi sandwich...thick, juicy, flavorful fish with toasted roll, a little tartar sauce and lettuce. One of the best fish sandwiches I ever tasted! (so many fish sandwiches are overcooked !). All these dishes were served with homemade potato chips and slices of ripe pineapple and melon! Don't miss this place...it is worth the wait! read more

Family of 7 ate here late lunch on a Sunday after going to the beach.. Ate outside enjoying the view of the water, boats and dock. Food was so very good especially the almond corn flake crusted snapper. We had oyster sandwich, lobster sandwiches, popcorn shrimp, cheeseburger and chicken fingers with homemade chips and with beers and seltzers. First time back to Grandma Dots following hurricane Ian. It was beyond expectations, the coconut shrimp was fantastic. Other people in our party got bbq bacon wrapped shrimp, crunchy grouper, and fried oysters. All meals were delicious. Service was excellent as well. Always a must have when in Sanibel. read more

I made the 'mistake' of ordering clam chowder as an appetizer. Ok, the original thought was clam chowder and a salad but, at the last second, the fish was too tempting. Both were scrumptious. The best fish and chips I have had in decades. It was perfectly cooked & so flaky. Way too food for a lunch. This isn't a cheap eats stand by the beach although, it's very casual overall. Excellent place for dinner in the marina. Outdoor seating is a must. About 8 beers on draft with a few local Fort Meyers beers to choose from. While waiting to be seated we had a drink, walked around the marina, and spotted some dolphins. Kids fish and chips was great, kids Mac and cheese was Kraft. Meh. Gramma Dot's is a landmark so has a great group of (vacationing) regulars. We showed up a few minutes after they opened for lunch and ended up with a less than desirable inside table for lunch. The service was OK. I had a Ceasar salad and added scallops for like $9 extra. The four scallops were pretty small but decently grilled. The Ceasar salad was dry and was really just some torn up lettuce, so not very good. Everything was pretty pricy. I'm glad we checked it out one time, but won't be back. read more

I wanted to LOVE Gramma Dots. It had been recommended by a great friend but apparently is under different ownership. The vibe is awesome overlooking the marina. Bright and cheery with a nautical theme. We were greeted by a wonderful hostess and had the best servers. Unfortunately the food was subpar. The coconut shrimp was a little chewy and greasy as was my husbands fish and chips. (Note the chips were not fries but actual chips that were a little stale) In an effort to salvage the meal we went with the famous key lime pie but were a little underwhelmed. New owners and they have reopened. They are doing a great job and it's just as good as the original. JUST TRY IT AND THANK ME LATER. Highly recommend this place. It soon became one of our top favs for lunch and dinner. The food is amazing..we have loved everything we tried and I'd dare say you can't go wrong. The coconut shrimp are the best we ever had. I add them to a spring salad. I prefer no sauce with the shrimp ... perfect on their own. Lobster rolls, fish and chips fish daily special, fried oysters all are great. We like the key lime pie .. perfect balance of sweet and tart citrus. A few times it was a bit frozen but we were ok with it .. refreshing on a hot day. We discovered this place last year when we took the Thriller dolphin boat tour. All started by the same family. They told us the restaurant was to honor their grandma and suggested we try the restaurant. So glad we did... cant see it from the road so we hadnt seen it in previous trips. But now it's a must. We had seen several comments about Gramma Dot's on a few video blogs, as well as some great reviews here. It was my husband's birthday. We were looking for someplace for lunch and decided on Gramma Dot's because his late mother's name was Dot. There are a good number of parking spots right out front, as well as a good number of boat slips where people pulled up and docked for lunch. The area was nicely landscaped and had several cute bronze statues. There were about eight tables outside, all nicely spaced out and covered with big umbrellas. All of the staff wore masks, and everything was wiped down between each seating. We took a table outside right along the dock, and a server joined us within minutes. She took our order for soft drinks while we looked over the menu. I ordered the Soft Shell Crab Sandwich ($16.95), which was served with Fresh Fruit and Chips. My husband ordered the Fish-N-Chips ($16.95) made with fresh Grouper, Chips, Fresh Fruit, and a really flavorful Herbed Mayonnaise (he didn't take the cocktail sauce). We LOVED that there was actually a price on the Grouper! Every place else we ate during our trip listed anything with Grouper as MKT - Grouper is fresh and plentiful around Sanibel, so we're really surprised it was always at Market Price. My Soft Shell Crab was a good size, perfectly cooked, nicely brown, and not greasy. The roll was soft, nicely toasted, and came with lettuce and tomato. There was a big pile of homemade Chips and some fresh Red Grapes, and an Orange slice. The Fish-N-Chips had the same Chips, fresh Melon, and about five nice pieces of crispy Fish. The food was delicious, fresh, and a good size portion for the price. The servers kept our drinks filled and were very attentive. The manager, who seated us, went to every table, checked in, and was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We'll absolutely come back next time we visit Sanibel. read more

This spot has a high-end looking Yacht Marina on a really nice property- with a restaurant serving tasteless food. Sometimes...somethings don't equate. Gramma Dot's 'Soft Shell Crab Sandwich' came up on the menu and decided...why the heck not. Restaurant has in/outdoor seating but with Sanibel's heat and humidity- inside it is with several palm leaf tropical ceiling fans- helping a bit. My 'Seltzer' seemed like it was made with Sanibel's awful tasting tap water and doctored up with like a carbonated machine. No. Thanks! A big chunk of Gramma's menu featured fried stuff with a few grilled items. Our Fried Oysters were ok, except the coating was way too thick for them. My Soft Shell Crab Sandwich was decently sized, but one whiff of the roll and it was a turn-off. It's one thing that I salivate over Potato Bread, but it's another when all you smell is yeasty dough in poor quality bread. Crab had a nice size though, but the coating was the same as the Oysters ^...^. Gramma....not everything requires the same batter. On top of that, not all batters are created equal or serve the same purpose. And what's good for Fish & Chips wouldn't work for Oysters or Soft Shell Crabs and so on. Plus the dredge was loose and cracked all over the plate. Hubs also had gotten the same Soft Shell Crab in a Salad with a small bun and had asked me to feel and weigh the bun. For a small bun, that sucker was heavy and felt that not much thought is put in their food they put out. I think I went in expecting more from this lavish-looking marina restaurant- but not everything that glitters is gold. read more

Beautiful outdoor seating, particularly at sunset. We got there early which yielded plenty of parking and had a great experience. Pro tip, order extra chips for the table. Save the best for last!!! We stopped here on our way home from our staycation. It's directly on the marina so you have million dollar views of the water and yachts. It's an excellent place for a photographer. We sat outside under the umbrellas. We ordered the peel and eat gulf shrimp and I had a grouper sandwich. They said they had "award winning key lime pie". So I figured one last cheat before the end of our staycation. The first mistake was ordering one slice. We have been to key west and this key lime pie is the best I have ever had. The three of us were fighting over it. This place has great seafood and spectacular views. But come for the pie!!! 20 stars!!!! read more

Beautiful location on the marina. Food is above average, considering all the other tourist traps we ate at in the area. Really enjoyed the grouper sandwich. The clam chowder and lobster bisque were average while the waitress hyped them. The fried and grilled foods were generally well received by the family. Cute atmosphere, beautiful setting, good menu, but not so good for vegetarians.  The menu is filled with tasty offerings of burgers, grouper sandwiches, coconut shrimp, fish-n-chips, tuna melts, chicken sandwiches, meat, meat, and more meat. When I asked our server what she might recommend or could modify for a veggie, she said she thought maybe the cook could make me a cheese sandwich. Uh... maybe? I mean, that's like the easiest possible thing to make. Bread and cheese. I could make that at home. I wouldn't bike 8 miles down the island to get that. So, that was a disappointing response, and I'd recommend to the restaurant that they consider adding a veggie burger or mushroom melt sandwich or something else vegetarian-friendly to the menu offerings.  Instead, I opted for the romaine salad, which is topped with mandarin oranges, pecans, and a cranberry citrus vinaigrette. It was large, fresh, and tasty. The side roll was warm and tasty, too. My dad got the burger which, if you're into eating meat, looked pretty amazing. A hearty 8oz of sirloin with all the fixin's. He was full until happy hour with this meal. I ate a bunch of his homemade chips, which were pretty good. I recommend arriving right away when they open at 11:30am, otherwise you may be waiting a while for a table. read more

The food was really just OK. Nothing really special about this place except that it is on the marina. Pull your boat right up. Service was fine. You can sit outside near the water as well. It sounded like they have daily specials which was some sort of cheesy spinach on a grouper sandwich. When I saw one come out I wished I had tried it. The prices were crazy the food was horrible and the service was so so slow. She was super sweet but had too many tables. The grouper sandwich that I had was dry and bland. And not worth $21 dollars. We had a wonderful dinner here after swimming at the beach all day! We started with the crab meatballs and coconut shrimp which were both fantastic with delicious sauces. We also had the Caesar salad with fried grouper, and a burger which were both cooked and seasoned to perfection. They are very dog friendly and even have a "pet menu" so we got our dog a chicken breast. They also brought out a water bowl for our dog right away. The severs and host were very friendly and inviting. We went later in the evening and the front patio was very quiet with lanterns on the tables for a very calm, cozy, and romantic vibe also perfect for our dog. My friend and I chose this lovely spot because it's on the marina and has good food. We decided to skip the wait for an outside table and sit inside. The seats were spaced well and we felt safe. We split the grouper sandwich and the coconut shrimp. While the grouper was amazing, a huge juicy piece with melted Swiss, being a shrimp fan I felt the coconut shrimp really stood out. It was melt in your mouth epic. The shrimp were huge, tender and fried in the crispy crunchy coconut batter- perfection. I will be dreaming of it often. The homemade chips were also yummy. It's a great spot, classic Sanibel, perfect for a little family meal or ladies lunch. I can see why it gets very busy and if you show up at the opening time you should be able to get in quickly.
