I remember the first time I tried one I scoffed at the price. Somewhere around $14. It was a chicken cherry salad. And I was starving. What I got for the money? A huge salad. Food was acceptable. However, as cafeterias go, it is definitely below standards. The table we selected had "leftovers" from the last customer. Since there was no one around to clean the table I grabbed some napkins and a cup of water. The table surface was sticky beyond imagination (do they ever clean them?). I managed to clean half of the surface - enough for us to have lunch. Meanwhile an employee was creating a lot of noise as he was throwing dirty dishes into a container (not the sort of ambiance we were looking for). We picked up 2 pies for Thanksgiving 2022. Ordered a week in advance, they were ready and waiting when we got there. We requested sugar free, and were thrilled they were able to accommodate! Grand Traverse Pie is usually the gold standard for fruit pies in Michigan. Our ABC pie was surprisingly lacking in ABC. I was only about half the shell high and mounded with crumbles. It still tasted delicious and next time, I'll take a photo. read more

Cherry pie is my favorite so I've only had that, but every time it is so delicious just like the rest of the food. I visited midday for pie and coffee. Service is good - friendly. Wifi is free and I used it. All this is well and fine, but for me its about the pie, and I do consider myself a bit of a pie specialist. I had the strawberry rhubarb. It had a good flavor, but it was too light on the fruit. Fruit pie has two elements: fruit and crust. When done right, these two essentials play off one another in a way that perfectly exemplifies the ideal of the whole being greater than the sum of the parts. That is not the case at the Grand Travers Pie Co. Here, there is too little fruit. Here fruit is replaced with sugar and some sort of...goop. It tastes ok, but the effect is sort of, well, gross. I know, fruit costs more than goop. But if you're going to put the word "Pie" in your title, you'd better get it right. read more

My family loves this place. Fresh and tasty sandwiches, soup and pies. I am a big fan of Panera bread, but I think GTPC is better.

First of all, let me compliment the staff. They always make my day, even when I'm being ridiculously indecisive (their menu seems to have expanded lately, making this harder - maybe one of the few reasons it didn't get 5 stars). I loved that they're Michigan owned and that a lot of the food has a Michigan theme. It feels like home. Usually for lunch I'll have the smoked ham and havarti because I love the apple butter mustard combo so much, but for breakfast I get the breakfast sandwich, and Lucy's Cuban is great as well (but isn't a traditional Cuban, for the purists). Overall, a little kitschy, but for a fast casual (that yes, is pretty fast), solid place to stop in. read more

I love pie! I came during lunch on a weekday and was pleasantly surprised at how much seating was available. I saw the 10$ 3-course combo and decided to go for it. It was cold out and some chicken pot pie sounded amazing. The combo came with a pot pie, a slice of pie, and a house salad. It was a great deal and I was so stuffed so I had to take my slice of pie home. The sandwiches sounded amazing and the display case of sweets looked temptingly delicious. The pies are very good. The selection is good. The sandwich prices have been rising. Although the sandwiches are good; they are in the $7 to $8, to nearly $9 range. This location has been cutting it's hrs. Closing @ 7pm, M-F; 8-6pm, Sat; 9-5, Sun. For a sandwich and coffee shop; this is a prescription for disaster. You can't shop if the place isn't open.
