This location is NOT where the vineyards are. This is the wine tasting room/store. I was disappointed not seeing a vineyard as the touristy maps pointed this as the location of a winery. There is a vineyard but it is in the town of East Calais over the mountain as the sales lady described the directions of getting there. Since we were here, we decided on a wine tasting. It was a dollar for a small taste of each wine The downside was that we can only choose from the wines that were opened already. I could not try their blueberry wine. I did try the Pear wine, Rasberry Apple wine, and Stawberry Wine. I was really surprised how delish these wines were. My favorite was the Pear wine. The mister and I bought three bottles. Overall, as first time visitors to Vermont, the mister and I were in awe to find wineries here. Hopefully, we will find ourselves in their vineyards. This tasting room is next door to the popular cold hollow cider mill. Just go right into the Apple Core store and make a left into the tasting room. read more

This vineyard must use Vermonts prison return to work program. That is the only reason they would employ some one so awkward and angry. Or, she just quit heroin and needs a fix...bad. The store looks interesting from the outside and upon entry you are greeted by numerous microbrews for sale. I was planning on purchasing some until I made the mistake of walking through Grand View's door. The tasting room looks like a dull office with some bottles of wine. If you want a tasting, be brave -firm and try your hardest to ask for one while being stared down by inmate 4319. She sure as hell won't offer you one. Inmate 4319 is handling important business on her phone. And get ready to ante up that $2, no one is pouring anything till some cash comes out. Also, pay cash this will protect you from 4319. The first wine I tried had white stuff floating in it. I asked what it was and was told "sediment". No sh*t really? But 4319 was not providing further info on the flakes of flesh floating in the wine. It was mostly different fruit wines. They may have been alright but I just banged the samples back so I could hurry up and leave. No one walks out on 4319. read more

Lame. The fiance and I stopped in after getting some cider across the parking lot. Actually, I'm not sure we really intended to come in here but this "winery" or "tasting room" is connected to a gift shop. We came in for the gift shop to kill some time (we were waiting to meet someone). We wandered into the "winery" to take a looksey. Its more of a showroom/store than a "winery" or "tasting room." The service was weird. We apparently interrupted the one staff person while she was doing some reading. She didn't seem totally thrilled to need to stop her book reading to actually man the shop. She was also strange about demanding the $2 wine tasting fee upfront before doing the tasting, even though we had a bottle of something we were planning on buying and had not yet paid for....I don't know...we didn't understand the rationale...she wouldn't give us our $2 of wine sampes while we're standing their holding a $14 of product?? Why not take all the money due? Weird. I think it was really just attitude for interrupting the lady's reading... Pros: Right next to the cider mill & donuts, hard cider, cheap wine tasting, local artwork on display, local gifts/souvenirs for sale. Cons: Parking is tight when the cider mill is hopping, service. If you've got time to kill before or after visiting the cider mill, stop by. If not, this place not worth a special trip. After the weird/mildly rude service, I don't think I can whole-heartedly recommend the place as a "must" tourist spot. Sorry... read more

Wine tasting in the middle of Vermont countryside. If you're here for some apres-ski events, Grand View Winery is a perfect place to check out. When you first walk into the establishment, the cashier is situated directly in front of you, where you can sample fudges, then peruse around the store for any souvenirs. But the real reason we all come here is for the wine tasting, which is located on the left-hand side of the store, in a separate room. There is a small counter running along one side of the room where you can sample 6 of the ~15 wines for $1. Sadly, the 6 samples are pre-determined for that particular day, so you're stuck with whatever 6 bottles they have already uncorked. The lady behind the counter will give a short description of each wine (as you can also read on the wine menu) and pour a couple ounces in a porter wine glass. Wines (and apple cider wines) all vary with different fruits from apples, to grapes, melons, strawberries, raspberries, elderberries and more. Bottles of wine are priced around the $8-$17 range. I especially liked the pear wine ($14.50), which we bought a bottle, before making our way next door to some yummy apple cider donuts at Cold Hollow Cider Mill. read more

Grandview winery has a tasting room in stowe and i found the experience interesting if a little predictable for new england wines. i went in and got a great deal, tasting 6 wines for $1.00. can't beat that! the first beverage i tried was their hard cider (you don't pick and choose what you taste, you just smile and drink) which the sales dude told me had a sparkling quality when freshly opened. i sampled. it was flat and didn't taste alcoholic. "did you open this bottle this morning?" "no, yesterday." YESTERDAY? no no no no. you do NOT serve day old sparkling hard cider to ANYONE. i don't care if it's wasteful to throw out a half empty bottle, you are doing your company a great disservice by offering up poor quality products. the rest of the tasting was pretty banal. he didn't really know anything about the 2 real wines (well, hybrids anyway. sevyal and marchel foch) he had and then focused on sampling fruit wine. contemplating fruit wine makes my pulse quicken with dread and my head swoon. i approached the rest of the tasting with a healthy dose of fear of being served strawberry rhubarb wine, which i can tell you right now you should never ever ever taste. ever. it's horrible. taste may be subjective but strawberry rhubarb wine is offensive. luckily i wasn't served any strawberry rhubarb wine, though i did try cherry wine (meh. fruit juice in a wine bottle. the end), raspberry-apple wine (no.), and blackberry wine. the sales dude tried to convince me that this would be "port-like" in taste and consistency. it was not. it was blackberry juice. as he mentioned food pairings that worked with it "with fruit for dessert or poured over vanilla ice cream" he told me to save half of my sip. huh? i don't even want to have the other half, okay i'll save it. then he turns around and drops a teaspoon of BAKERS CHOCOLATE SHAVINGS in it. WHAT? i'm all for food and wine pairings but not in the actual glass. then he smiled at me knowingly and told me to try it, that it would taste like a chocolate truffle. it tasted like weak blackberry juice with chalky particles in it. oh, and he stared at my chest during the entire ordeal. read more

Okay. First, the man at the counter was very friendly and pleasant and conversed with us throughout our time there. This is the thing. It's not quite a winery. It's sort of a storefront within another store. The wine isn't really wine: it's fermented fruit. It doesn't taste awful - it tastes okay at first, like for three sips, but then it just is weird. We got free tasting coupons from our hotel. I wouldn't really pay for a tasting - it's kind of more of a sampling while standing at a counter (like sampling things at Costco!). read more

Good wine, bad attitude. I stopped in there for a tasting over the weekend and was treated like vermin. The lady behind the counter pretty much ignored me for 10 minutes while I was looking around at the wines, until another party - who were apparently more "worthy" of her presence - came in for the tasting. And again, she served them while ignoring me, until one of them brought it up. One extra star for the wine, but believe me when I tell you, it wasn't good enough to bring me back for another run-in with that snob at the counter. read more

Mostly forgettable wines. Server was on phone when we entered and made us wait. Had lunch - the buffalo wrap was served cold with the buffalo sauce on it, not really that good. The salad that was served with it had some strong type of dressing on it that I could not eat. read more

A tasting for $1 and a server who had good information to provide us with. We started with the Mac Jack was not for me ( because to me it tastes like beer ).. However all the other wines were 4's on our scale of 1-6 and we took home a bottle of Strawberry-Rhubarb. If you go there to taste wine that is like wine made in Italy or France, you wont be happy, but if you enjoy fruit wine... You will find somwthing for you. read more

Just went to this place on a whim with friends. The wine guy was fantastic! Great knowledge of his products, and the wines were superb. I am very picky about the wine I like, and I enjoyed almost every one I tried. Finally found blueberry wine I liked! read more

We stopped in with 10 minutes to closing, and the lady was kind enough to stop cleaning and offer us a quick wine sampling. For $1, we tasted a healthy sampling of 6 different wines and cider. As we were in the apple mood from the cider mill nextdoor, the hard cider won our hearts and we picked up a few bottles for ~$10 each. The cranberry wine was a winner and we are looking forward to ordering wines from the Grand View Winery soon! read more

Unimpressive fruit "wines" and terrible service. The woman working ignored is when we walked in (apparently sitting and playing with her phone is her primary occupation). She demanded her money up front when we eventually spoke up and proceeded to rush through the tasting. At that point, frankly, it was fine by me. I didn't want to swallow the so-called wine. One tasting was poured from a nearly empty bottle filled with skins of filmy sediment. Yuck! We couldn't get out of there fast enough. Overall an uncomfortable and unpleasant experience. Wish I could give this place no stars. read more

So exciting to try something different! We liked the place in Stowe - with helpful service in a nice setting - so we traveled out to Calais - which was definitely worth it. What a beautiful place. The view is to die for!! We loved the wines, coming in with a great love for wine and an open mind, we especially liked the blackberry and the pear. definitely worth the trip! read more
