It's in a ghetto-esque area, BUT, her pad thai is the BEST I've ever had in my life, and I've pretty much eaten out with my parents as a kid, as they worked long hours in a business, AND, I ate out all the time from age 21 on, and I'm 69, so I have extensive restaurant food experience. Her thai tea is quite good, and not watered down like My Thai did and wouldn't refund me for, so I will NEVER be back there. Her Thai coffee is EVEN BETTER! The Tuesday special was a bit bland for me, and she told me it's supposed to be bland. The PAD THAI is the BEST I've had in my entire life! The chicken on skewers with peanut sauce was a bit tough. The egg rolls were delicious although small for the price. The fried bananas with ice cream was surprisingly wonderful. I've had it before, but she made it the best I've had. She puts some honey in there as well and it is crunchy and wonderful. I have decided to not support corporate business that cut corners and serve SYSCO frozen food fried or corporate kitchen food sent in frozen bags to sites and microwaved. High prices and low quality do NOT interest me. So, I have decided to go to Grandma's Thai food truck and support small business who make food from scratch and care! And I will go to Tandoor at UTC (Indian), and Dim Sum Kitchen when the server Xiou (pronounced Shoe) on Monday lunch, Thursday and Fridays. All their dim sum is from scratch and served piping hot to order. Victoria's on University Parkway is a NEW super authentic Chinese place and their beef spicy soup is really good. I'm also paring down and/or deleting corporate markets. I occasionally go to Publix, but their customer service sucks and they have a lot of employees doing nothing but holding up a uniform which drives up their price point. I also have been going to Fresh Market, because their meats are superior (choice and prime) but every time I go in, about every two weeks the price goes up a couple of dollars. Now filet mignon is over $30, so, I'll pass. I went back to DETWILER's and their filet mignon is something like $20 a pound. And Detwiler's really controls their suppliers and their recipes, and ingredients. They don't put up with the nonsense of harmful additives. A worker there said that their meatballs for the sandwiches are made fresh every day, and that their pasta supplier makes fresh pasta locally. I bought the gnocchi, fresh gnocchi is very hard to find. I am just not going to supply big corporate business anymore, if I have local mom and pops doing business. Except for gas stations, I think I can do it easily. Grandma Wantani is her full first name, cares about what she does and how she does it. She's as wholesome and good as you can get. Her little tables with umbrellas and potted plants, with her own basil that she grows herself, is adorable, and she's created a candle in the darkness over there, and a beautiful sanctuary where you can relax and enjoy. read more

Grandma told us all about how she has been cooking for over 40 years having ran multiple restaurants, and how her mother taught her everything she knows about cooking. And trust me, you can taste it! Grandma has been in this location for two years and arranged it like a garden at home. The menu consists of a daily special (see pic) and the regular menu. Sure to be something to tempt you. We chatted with her one customer and Grandma before it got busy and learned much about her and the business. She's mighty impressive. Works the whole deal, service and cooking herself. We heard from the customer that the noodle soup was killer so we got an order to go. We ordered spring rolls and two dishes - Thai Basil stir fry (basil from her garden) and the day's special, Thai Sweet Curry Chicken. The table setting includes a dry spice and a pepper sauce made from the plants in her garden next to the truck (lookout, this is got some heat). Everything was delicious - fresh as anything. You will find me stopping by this truck at least once a week for lunch. It is by my job and very convenient. Credit cards are accepted also. The food here is so delicious with homemade flavors, just like Grandma invited me over for lunch. My favorite items are the daily specials on the back of the menu. On Thursdays she serves "Thai Sweet Curry" which is a stewed and pulled chicken version of Massaman curry with potatoes. The balance of flavors is so perfect, and the accompanying steamed rice is so soft and comforting. I devoured it! I've tried all of the appetizers and my favorite is the crispy fried rice patty--- soft in the middle and super crispy on the outside, seasoned with red curry. It wasn't until 2yrs after we moved to Bradenton that we chose to visit this cute food truck on the corner of 27th St E and Manatee Ave. Grandma Wan cooks with her heart all the food her mom used to cook for her when she was little. Her food truck is surrounded by lots of plants and herbs she uses for her food. Btw, She doesn't drive the food truck. It stays there all the time. After we ordered our food she brought it out to our table and sat with us to char for a bit. She shared stories about her life, her plants and how much she loves to cook. She then proceeded to bring us different food to try that was so healthy, different and delicious. She works hard to please clients and also does catering. For Grandma Wan, age is just a number. Amazing meal with lots of flavor and prepared with love. Fresh herbs from her garden and even daily specials! We enjoyed the appetizer satay and rice balls. The latter is something new but a great way to offer a Thai version of arancini. Thai stir fry was plentiful with good flavors, lots of chicken and peppers. Soy chicken was a bit drier though served on rice with a salad. Next time we will try the fried bananas and ice cream for dessert.
