Absolute s***show here today. Every weekend in Duluth is nuts, every season is tourist driven. So why do places always act like deer in the headlights? We came here later in the afternoon around 1:30 to grab some lunch. Passing the mall that was jammed packed with shoppers, we set our expectations for a long wait. Well, that is what we got and then some. We put our order in and waited, and waited, and waited. Hey, it's the holidays and the weekend, we will wait. More than an hour into waiting, our food finally comes out. As our waitress is bringing out the food, she tells us that only one out of the two of the wild rice burgers we ordered was available and we would need to make a substitute of some kind in place of the KITCHEN'S error. AS SHE IS BRINGING OUT OUR ORDER THAT WE HAVE WAITED OVER AN HOUR FOR. WTF? So are we supposed to order something else and wait an additional hour for it? So that means one person at our table has no food and we are starving because it is getting close to 3 p.m. So we order an order of onion rings and start splitting up our meals to make enough food go around the table to feed everyone. A good waitress would press for our onion ring order to be at least prioritized but that never materializes. After waiting 20 minutes for the rings, we tell our waitress to cancel the order. It would be dinner time by the time we got them. Seriously, no apologies, no what can we do to make this better, nothing - just would you like to add more to your bill? Overpriced burgers and sandwiches (one burger, one kid's meal, and one beer ran was $35!, that was just one bill out of three). On top of that, they nickel and dime you with so many different charges (5% automatic charge to pay for their awful cooks, retail tax (?), multiple lines to tip your staff, etc.) followed by absolutely clueless and uncaring staff. I'm only 33 years old but this will be the last time me or my immediate family ever set foot into any Grandma's establishment ever again. Do not let appearances deceive you. We're on a road trip and wanted lunch, we were intrigued by the Yelp listing of the menu. Pulled up and the parking lot was giving neighborhood biker no big deal vibes. Go in, sit down, feels comfy. Service was excellent. And the food was amazing!! Food and services was great- menu prices have increased exponentially and now you want us to pay cash instead of credit card. I completely understand that credit card companies charge you a fee for using them. Credit card companies have been charging fees for the last 30 years but now you jump on the bandwagon and add the cost to your bill- not many carry a lot of cash for a lunch at the price of $77.64 for lunch for 3 people. Horribly overpriced for average food. I ordered the chicken pot pie and was very disappointed. I could have bought 4 Marie Calendar pot pies from Walmart for the price charged and they would have tasted mucjh better. My husband ordered fish and fries and it came barely warm. Parking lot is quite small and difficult to get around in if you have a larger vehicle. Busy Saturday for late lunch, only had to wait about 5 min. Had to wait another 5 for a server to acknowledge us...but it was busy and I'm sure they're just short-handed. Onion ring starter was OK, got that about 45 min after we ordered (got the small which was 4 rings). Food arrived 15 min later. We split the Schnitt sammy which was tasty as were the fries. Beers were good. Really the only serious complaint I have is the amount of time it took to eat late lunch (1:20). This is a hard one for me to write.....we have been going to Grandmas regularly for 30 years. My daughters grew up going to Grandmas for lunch every summer. Today my husband and I went for lunch and I'm still heart sick for what went on. My husband has ordered the Tricycle Burger for years and years. It was always amazing. Today the burger looked and tasted steamed-as if they had a bunch of them in the crockpot. It didn't taste or looked grilled. Because of the steamed burger -the bun was super soggy on the bottom. This burger and fries is almost $22. He was so disappointed. The Buffalo chicken sandwich I had was ok but it was weirdly formed -not like a real chicken breast would look. I will say Grandmas has the best blue cheese dressing around. The service from Nick was fine -and the Knick knacks are always fun to talk about. Maybe next time we will go to the location down by the lake -our bill for a soggy burger, an ok chicken sandwich and a pretty good Bloody Mary was almost $65 with a tip. Excellent Walleye sandwich, great French Onion soup, good service, a little pricey but worth it

Great place to come if you're after a casual atmosphere, friendly staff, and comfort food made well. Server Claire was excellent, attentive enough that we felt taken care of but not hovering. Food had some great touches, real raspberries in the vinaigrette on my salad, real gruyère on the French onion soup. The menu is overall focused on rich, home grown Minnesota flavors. Flavors were not very bold, if I were to make some of these at home I'd be looking for some heat and acid to cut through all the creamy and cheesy flavors, and the French onion would definitely have some port added. But if you're looking for great service, a good beer variety, and unfussy, traditional flavors, this place would be perfect. read more

I was in Duluth on business last week and stopped in here for dinner. I walked in and got a small town tavern feel with the bar in sight and the wood panelling on the walls. All it was missing was a bunch of old license plates along the walls like crown molding. Lol The menu was much more expansive than I was expecting. I wasn't feeling too hungry after a full day of travel, so I went with a beer and a wild rice burger. The service was quick and the food was pretty good. This place was great! We had the steak kabob and a cheeseburger kids meal. The steak was amazing! Typically there are just a few pieces of steak on one but there was a ton of meat on this kabob and it tasted sooo good! Also, the kids meal cheeseburger was pretty big. We've gone to Grandma's Restaurants for years and been very happy with the food and the service. This last time, however, makes me pause about continuing service with them. We ate outside, and waited forever for someone to just take our drink order. Ok, fine; I can deal with that. The waiter took our order shortly after that, so that was fine. But then we waited for almost an hour for our food. In fact, there was a table next to us that arrived after us; ordered their food; received their food; and were boxing up their leftovers before we even got our food. It was about 10 minutes after that point, and about 5 minutes from us just walking away, when our food finally came. The food was ok. I got the steak cheese french, and it was just ok; nothing special. After we paid ($72 before tip, for lunch!), it again took forever to get my card back from the waiter. (While we were waiting, I noticed someone from a nearby table get up to go in the restaurant so someone could take their order because they were waiting so long. I guess it wasn't just us!) And after we all left and got back in the car, everyone said they were still hungry! After we realized there was no alcohol in the drinks, he insisted they add one shot per drink, but implied that our normal server (we do go there quite often when in town) maybe "free-poured" if he thought he could get away with it!!
