Went brandy's last cruces 4/20/24 at 7:48 pm. Served by Jorge c. Check #0425. Ordered chicken. Was told did not have any thighs only wings and breasts. I had 1st asked for pot roast. They said they had already put it away. I then ordered 2 breasts. The chicken was cold. Dry and hard. It had also been burned. I took it back and told them the chicken was not any good. The spokesman I assume he was the manager. Said it looked fine to home and it was hot because it was under the heating lamp. I couldn't take at least 1 bite. I spent 26 dollars for two meals. I will never go back to granny's. It's a shame I've been to grandys before. And it was good. I will never return and I will make sure to spread the word about how the food is. This place serves trash. It was 12 noon and they were out of almost everything. Cost me over $14 for fried chicken, corn, and mashed potatoes. Not to mention the guilt tipping so lets say over $16. Ordered 2 pieces of dark meat and received one leg and one wing which are the cheapest parts of the chicken. Cashier promised to bring me a roll as soon as they were 'out the oven.' Grandy's is that good old fashion southern cooking. It's a step up from KFC. At least the chicken isn't greasy. The mash potato in white gravy is different than the brown gravy. The reason I mention these is that they all lacked flavor or had the taste of being cooked on another day, refrigerated and reheated or refried. This was not a good experience. We decided to try Grandy's because we like fried chicken. We were the only customers in the restaurant, service was quick the gentleman took our order we paid and sat down. Picked up our order about 2-3 minutes later, presentation was good, we got 2 piece chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy with corn. Unfortunately the mashed potatoes were cold, the corn had a sour taste, the chicken was good fully cooked and crispy. We were very unhappy with our meals. We will not return. read more

I haven't eaten at Grandys since 1988 in Albuquerque, NM, unfortunately, they all closed. It was like time traveling when I saw this off of El Paseo Rd. We stopped, parked, and as I entered the restaurant with my wife, i had gone back in time. My wife had never even heard of Grandys. We looked at the menu, then saw the special, and jumped on it. Chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes with gravy, deep fried okra, and a dinner roll, my wife got the same. Mind you, we were in Las Cruces, NM, for our daughters orientation at NMSU. We wanted something different for dinner, so coming across this was the ticket. We ordered, got our food, and headed back to our hotel. Once we got settled, we opened the containers' talk about portions. We were happy and the food was great. My wife loved it and said we need to tell the kids so they can eat there when they attend college in the fall. Memories of 1988, a happy wife and a new place for my son and daughter to eat at for the unbelievable Tuesday special price of $5.99. OMG..saw where Grandys has livers and gizzards back on the menu...Avoid this at all costs. The lady working the counter did not want to be there and made no secret about it. The gizzards were way over cooked and the worst I have EVER had, the livers were some what better, at least not over cooked. Still not sure what kind of critter they were from. Since I was in the area around lunch today, I decided to eat at Grandy's. I have lived in the Las Cruces area for over 6 years and have never eaten there. I had country fried steak with mashed potatoes and corn. The steak was good and the corn was very good. The mashed potatoes were OK, but I think they were the boxed variety. Their rolls were very good. One thing that can be said about the restaurant is that you get your food quickly and that the food is inexpensive. read more

Spouse and I eat here occasionally (often enough); usually for breakfast, but sometimes lunch or dinner as well. The food is consistently good. Quick service. The restaurant (including bathrooms) are very clean. My one criticism is the morning/breakfast staff should GREET the customer. Too often there is no greeting, just poker-faced silence until you approach the counter and are asked what you'd like to have. I know that not everyone is a morning person, but it's *good business practice* to greet customers. read more

But, the restaurant is fine for casual dining. Step up to the counter and order from the board above as in most fast food joints. The service is efficient and quick. MUCH OF THE FOOD IS PRE-PREPARED AND SITTING IN WARMING TRAYS so it is quick and easy to get your order ready while you wait in line. Mine was ready in 90 seconds or so! Obviously the food is not cooked to order. I found the dinner rolls ok, but not the most flavorful. They seemed a little dry. The green beans were way overcooked and boiled to a soft consistency as in many of the poorer restaurants. The mashed potatoes were ok while the gravy covering them and my chicken fried steak was a little weak....not flavorful. The chicken fried steak was tolerable but not one of your better ones. The food sort of reminded me of that served in large buffets. I doubt I will return. What to expect if you go: A clean and well lighted restaurant, quick food preparation as you wait in line, very reasonable pricing, no tipping, and food that is just ok.....very pedestrian. We happened to be in Las Cruces on our way to White Sands, and had to stop here. My wife grew up in Tucson and used to go to Grandy's as a kid. They don't have them in Arizona anymore. Believe it or not, this is my first time in a Grandy's even though I grew up in this area. That being said, it looks old school in here. You can look at it two ways: it's outdated or it's reminiscent. Let's stay positive and choose the later. The lady behind the counter was super friendly. I ordered a country steak dinner with a drink for $6 and change. It came with mashed potatoes, a breaded fried steak, 2 biscuits and I chose fried okra for my side. Personally, I don't like it when people review the food at a humble establishment like this and grade it like they're eating at the Four Seasons. It's got a drive thru and you just paid under $7 bucks for generous portion of food, know what to expect. My food was fine. It looks like almost any fast food place. If you want gourmet food, go to a fancy place and pay gourmet price, right? Here, you get what you pay for: a cheap and decent meal for a cheap and decent price. That being said there are 2 things: my mashed potatoes had a flavor like.... y'know when you burn something in your toaster or your toaster oven and it smokes and contaminates that things you cooked later? ... Like that. It wasn't enough to stop me from eating them. I finished the plate. Second is the front door. Call me weird, but it's the one thing I really pay attention to. I used to work at pizza places and at every place, the managers were militant about the front door being clean; now I know why. The front door is dirty and it looks bad. I love Grandy's. First went to a Grandy's in Abilene, Texas back in 1985. This local Grandy's is the only one within a great distance. Glad to have one here in Las Cruces. The food is good. They no longer have there salad bar. And the interior is very very dated. But if you don't mind the dated interior then you can come and enjoy the food. Grandy's restaurants have not been updated since the 70s but that is OK at this one because of their CFS specials on Tuesday and Friday. CFS dinner with two sides and a roll is only $3.99 on those days and $5.99 for a two steak dinner. Really good deal for some solid grub. This ain't the "typical" Texas CFS of pounded rounded steak, but it also doesn't cost $12.95 or more either. Over heard employees cursing and saw an employee on their cell phone texting . And told a customer to throw away their own plates to a older customer.
