Granite Rock Grill takes breakfast seriously, as their web page states their motto, which reads: "Home of the BEST breakfast in the greater Sacramento Valley/Placer area." That's quite a statement, so I just "had" to check out this fine restaurant. As you walk in the front door, you won't be in doubt as to the name of the restaurant. Note the word play on the old Donny and Marie Osmond song, "A Little Bit Country," as the sign states "A Little Bit Country, a Little Bit Rocklin-Roll." Country music plays in the background, so along with the rustic decor, the restaurant is definitely "country." I ordered "Kay's" breakfast - named after the owner - which is hash brown potatoes, two eggs, along with biscuit and gravy. You get your choice of hash brown or country potatoes, and your choice of a biscuit, or several varieties of toast. The gravy is extra, but well worth the small price of admission. This breakfast was PERFECT in every way! No wonder the restaurant advertises as the "Home of the BEST breakfast in the greater Sacramento Valley/Placer area," as today's breakfast is definitely one of the better breakfasts that I've enjoyed in a long time. Note: You MUST order the gravy, as it's pure heaven!I Breakfast at Granite Rock Grill is truly an awesome experience, as the dining room is huge, attractive and very comfortable, the staff is super friendly and attentive, the portions are gigantic, the presentation is beautiful, and the food is simply delicious. As fast as the question goes, "Does Granite Rock Grill serve the best breakfast in the region?" ... I can't answer that question, but I can tell you that Granite Rock Grill serves a breakfast that I'll be thinking about for quite some time. Saw this on Yelp and was looking for a brunch place to at after our trip from Tahoe. It's really in the middle of nowhere. The place was deceiving from the outside. Parking was hard since it was small spots for our big car. The place was huge in the inside and can easily fit large families like ours. The place was very homie-like and had very artistic wall drawings even in the girls bathroom. The place was very well kept and the servers are so very friendly and helpful. Everything we had was good but the best part is the dish prices were very decent and affordable (cheaper than our meal at IHOP!) This is what we had: Husband - chili or Santa Fe omelette Mine and daughter 1 - Tiff's spinach, bacon and avocado Benedict Daughter 2 - Angus Benedict (Corned beef hash) Daughter 3 - Mr Green Bean Benedict Son - children's Grilled American cheese with sub garlic fries Everyone finished all and that tells you something....Totally recommend! read more

Granite Rock came highly recommended and I finally had the chance to drop in for breakfast. The establishment was quite busy for a Thursday morning, and upon entering, the staff were inviting and the smell of breakfast and coffee was wonderful. We were immediately seated and our server was attentive and helpful. She took our drink order and very quickly, we were served. I ordered the standard eggs Benedict. It was recommended and the menu description was quite appealing. So why three stars? My food was average. The plate was warm, and the egg was cooked perfectly. However, with any Benedict the hollandaise sauce is key, and if it's not on point the subsequent components don't seem to come together. A good hollandaise should be creamy, with a light yellow throughout. In my opinion, it should be like a thin pudding; creamy and substantial. The sauce that came on my plate had "broke" and the butter had separated. The taste was also a bit bland for me. It hardly had any hint of citrus and needed additional salt and pepper. Hollandaise is difficult to make consistently, and I do recognize that it's a treat in today's restaurant settings. I didn't find the dish to be what I was craving. Hence, the three star rating. read more

Was brought here by my boyfriend on a Sunday afternoon. It was rather busy, I think everyone was excited to get back out after being in a shut down! Anyways, we waited maybe 20ish minutes for a table. The restaurant is a small, open area that has a semi older feel to it. We were helped super fast, the waitresses were super attentive. The menu is huge!! I had a hard time deciding what I wanted but I settled with a biscuits and gravy scramble. Portions were huge! The gravy wasn't the most flavorful but it wasn't awful! Overall this was a nice little joint to go for a nice breakfast. Would def come back read more

A small country style diner. Employees are very friendly and attentive. Meet a long time friend here for breakfast. Read through the reviews and was impressed. The pics of fellow yelpers' meals looked delicious...so here we are. I indecisive between the the Agnes' Homemade Corn Beef Hash and the Cooder's Country Benedict. Settled on the corn beef hash The food came out hot n was delicious. Stayed away from tbe hash browns as they looked like the kind which are rehydrated....i opted for the fried potatoes :) I added a small bowl of gravy. Highly recommend! read more

I have never had a bad meal from this restaurant. The portions are generous. They provide to-go boxes. Their biscuits & breakfast gravy are awesome. Bring your appetite if you have a full order. You never need a knife for their Chicken Fried Steak. Many return visits have satisfied my pallet. The floor is heavily staffed with your waitress & service personnel. read more

If you like bland, this is the spot for you. The chicken fried steak was chewy, thin, and completely lacking in flavor. Same goes for the gravy, it was thick but devoid of flavor. Hash browns and eggs were fine and what you'd expect. The biscuit was huge and tasty. My husband got the stuffed french toast with marmalade and it was good. Willing to come back again. Definitely going to order something else off the menu next time. read more

This is a pretty late review. I went last month during President's day weekend so the whole restaurant was decked out with American flag stuff, including the servers, the food and a huge family of 20 dining across the restaurant. Patriotism is no joke around here! The decor was super old school with some booths, some tables and a huge mural painted on the wall. It reminded me of a mess hall at a summer camp or something. The service was great--our server was super friendly and attentive and the food came out quickly. The food, super filling! I got Dave's benedict which had tomatoes, onions and avocado on top, my sister got the omelette with cream cheese in it, and my cousin got one pancake. We shared it all and we were stuffed. Pretty sure we didn't finish everything. Oh we also got 3 onion rings, one for each of us. The onion rings are supposedly famous, and they did not disappoint. Overall, the food was yummy. Though the restaurant was a little hard to spot off the road, now that I know it's there, I'll be back for breakfast/brunch. Oh and Icing on the Cupcake is right across the street, yay for gluttony! read more

The wait was probably 20-30 mins and couldn't tell what to expect from the neighborhood and some patrons. However, we decided to give it a try. Walking in, the restaurant opens up and you can tell this is a popular space judging by the large parties of patrons. The menu is quite exhaustive-vegetarian options, Mexican, traditional, anything you want basically. Portions are huge and quite fulfilling. Friendly customer service. When I walked in, I had to pause for a moment and scope out the place because it had two sections which were much larger than anticipated and I was kinda impressed. The old school country kitchen was packed with customers and the food on the tables looked promising. Then I was seated, took off my coat on a chilly day and realized someone definitely needed to crack a window. It felt like I was getting bacon,hash brown hot-boxed!! I'm usually the person that's always cold (it's my life, I'm used to it & accepted it) so perhaps the poor ventilation really put a damper on my experience. The meal was a typical greasy spoon breakfast and I had high hopes for the creamsicle mimosa, but alas, it just tasted like a regular mimosa with some flat whipped cream on top. I'd like to say I will be back to give it another shot, but leaving a restaurant and smelling like it all day is just not my thing. read more

My friend and I came here for the very first time we decided to try it since neither one of us has ever eaten here we where seated right away and we gad to look over the menu for a few minutes I decided to order the bacon and cheese omlet with hash browns and my friend ordered the cooters breakfast with country potatoes as soon as our food arrived my friend noticed that her biscuit was not cooked to the right temperature because it was Dowie yeah and it was covered in a lot of gravy my friend took three bites of this and looked at me and said I cannot eat this does not taste right and so we had to wait a few minutes for a waitress to come over and expressed our concern that her food did not taste right so she decided to order an omelette instead and when it came over it was overcooked and when we open the inside of it there was un melted butter in it she looked at me and said I can't eat this She did love the country potato she said they were cooked perfect I was eating my bacon and cheese omelette and I tasted undercooked bacon on it that's gross me out because I was hoping that are food will be cooked to proper temperature so when the waitress came around we explain to her that my friend was not happy with how the omelette looked and how it was over cooked and I had butter inside of it and I expressed my concerns about the bacon because I showed my friend my bacon she touched it she's like that is undercooked and I said yes and so they made me a cheese omelette which was OK didn't really have much flavor and we told the manager about it and we planned on paying for our food but they had comped or whole meal which we weren't expecting that but appreciated given the circumstances not sure if we will try this place again in the future we will have to think about it first since it left a bitter taste in my mouth read more

hands down 5 stars!!!!! (5 exclamation marks, too) hubby had eggs benedict (i tried it was good), i don't eat benedicts often enough to be a fair judge but the eggs were rightfully poached with the yolk runny. the sauce could be more tart. i ordered fresh blueberry short stack. not short on blueberries! the pancake was tasty and suprisingly not soggy from the amount of fruits they put in. fresh OJ was perfectly sweet. i'd come back for the pancakes and the service. great attentive and friendly staff! read more

I came here for breakfast and this is your above average diner. The service is great. We were created when we arrived and seated right away. We were brought waters without having to ask and given ample time to read the menu and make choose what we wanted to order. The waiter was polite and friendly and checked on us during our meal without being overbearing. The menu has a lot of food options. It's almost overwhelming when trying to decide what to order. The menu is also not the easiest to navigate but it's not horrible. The food itself is above average for a diner and the portions are massive. The ingredients are also above average for a diner which is nice. The location is very convenient and they do have their own parking lot. My only complaint there is their parking lot is super narrow which makes parking a nightmare because everyone is parked so close. Overall, I liked this place and may return in the future but there are other places on my list that I will likely try first before returning. read more

Delicious! Loved everything we tried. Ordered the steak and eggs with potatoes and toast. Steak is the perfect size and tender. Potatoes are fresh and well seasoned. Raspberry jam, omg tastes like homemade and oh so good. Also tried the bacon and waffles, yum. What a great find in Rocklin. Service is on spot and coffee never had a chance to run out with someone checking for refills. Would definitely come back and highly recommend. Wonderful! read more

I ordered the chicken fried steak. I asked for the gravy on the side, which came cold and congealed in the cups i thought held 2 coffees i ordered but did not receive. I asked for, and was charged $3.35 for extra butter for the biscuit, which was also omitted. Finally. I asked for utensils and condiments which were also omitted. Not a single napkin in sight. I don't know where the good reviews came from unless they were all from relatives. UPDATE: I tried heating the steak and gravy. Bad move. The meat was so tough and the gravy so yech that it was inedible. read more

Oh my goodness. Bring your empty stomach and don't plan on eating the rest of the day. Great food with healthy portions. Have a Bloody Mary with a few slab pieces of bacon and you're good to go. Great selection of Eggs Benedict . The entire menu is something to work through. read more

Okay, why 3-stars...the biscuits. They fall apart (so you eat with a girl) and they're more cake and doughy... I think a good biscuit defines a coffee shop. And don't get me wrong...the menu is impressive. Wonderful options for lunch and breakfast with interesting and generous portions. The setting is nice with a real fireplace and local color and fun. It's just the biscuits for the 3-stars and otherwise 4-stars due to great coffee, generous portions, great home-fries, fast and cheerful service. Sorry- if you can't keep the biscuits together I've got to tell it like it is. read more

Looked like it was going to take a long time to get in because it was packed, but they were so organized and on top of their game that we got a booth within just 10 minutes of waiting. We looked at the menu while we were waiting for our table and the waitress approached us in less than a minute after we sat down. Our food was ready about 15 minutes after that! Very tasty, LOTS of breakfast and lunch choices on the menu. I don't think anyone could leave feeling like they couldn't find something they would love to eat. I'm SO glad we didn't leave because it looked so busy. read more

This is my first visit and I was really looking forward to a great breakfast. But, I was very disappointed. I have driven by this Rocklin icon for years never stopping in. I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs, or their version of it as it was not deep fried. I was really excited about it not being deep fried. But I have to say I was completely underwhelmed. The coating fell off and just left chunks of flour, bread, crumb coating. The gravy was the consistency of paste and ruined the entire plate of food. Once I mixed my runny eggs and hash browns with it. Everything just ended up with the pasty consistency because of the gravy. I might try the restaurant again someday, but then again I might not. On a bright note, the service was nice. read more

Solid place to eat breakfast or lunch. They have a great menu with so many choices it can almost be overwhelming....almost. I usually stick with the country fried steak because it is not your typical deep fried option, they bread it and then it cooks on the flat top. They have good sized biscuits, I would say they used to be larger but I am sure due to the rising costs in California and people wasting them they down sizes for sure. The gravy is pretty much to die for, I mean it's so amazing not really sure who wouldn't like it. No matter what you choose to eat here you will be extremely satisfied, the portions are huge and the service is great not to mention the place is very clean.... I mean clean clean clean. Come try this place for yourself and I am sure you will have an amazing breakfast. read more

So I stumbled upon this place even though I work in Rocklin! My colleagues and I couldn't get into Pottery World Cafe (shocker) so we drove here instead. The place is very much like a homey dinner. We were sat right away and the service was great. I fell in love with their tomato bisque (amazing, some of the best I have had) and their cheese/bacon sandwich is to die for! They even gave me a huge container of tomato bisque to take with me. I think they only serve it on Mondays. I've been back twice since then. The cheese/bacon sandwich is still my favorite - had the tuna melt and it was so-so. If big groups come in (and they will) service might be slower. Their parking lot is tiny so maybe reservations for groups over 6 is a good idea - hey Management - throwing that idea out to you! Regardless, I am a fan and will back again! Good food, nice people, comfortable atmosphere! read more

History

Established in 2004.

Granite Rock Grill is owned by Kaylyn Gardner. This is my second restaurant, the first originating in Folsom, CA, which opened in 1992. We strive on exceptional customer service, and great homemade food. We make our biscuits daily, gravy's, hollandaise sauce, hamburger buns. We make every burger patty to order, cut our own fresh fruit, and make our famous giant cinnamon rolls. We are a family operated company, and love being part of the community.

Meet the Business Owner: Kaylyn G.

Kay Gardner is the owner of the Granite Rock Grill. I have a vast amount of experience, with 35+ years. I have worked in the food service industry all of my life. With our experience comes a great passion for food, we love food and everything about it. I try to stay on the cutting edge of the restaurant business, from old fashioned to new and creative dishes and design. I should not forget to mention our exceptional service, we pay special attention to every customer that comes in, we will make you feel like you have known us all your life, it's not a show, it's our genuine personality.

We used to come here every weekend. Sadly this place has gone downhill. I think we're done with this place!

I ordered the mixed gyro, which was supposed to be beef/lamb and chicken. I honestly couldn't tell…read morewhat the beef/lamb portion was. The meat came in square chunks and was pulled from a drawer next to the toppings rather than being shaved from a traditional gyro spit. I didn't see a spit or see the meat being cooked, so I was hesitant. The sandwich wasn't bad tasting, and they were very generous with the meat, but honestly, it reminded me more of a Subway sandwich with diced meat than a gyro. I would have expected shaved gyro meat, shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes and onions, Kalamata olives, and more traditional gyro toppings. The tzatziki was tasty, although it tasted more mayonnaise-based than yogurt-based to me. The packaging also needs improvement because the gyro leaked through the bag by the time I got home. The best part was the customer service. The two young females working there were incredibly sweet, friendly and welcoming, and the restaurant was clean and cute. Overall, it wasn't terrible, but I wouldn't order the gyro again or return. Great service and a generous portion, but the food just wasn't for me.

Did that ever hit the spot perfectly! The kitchen rocked it, once again! But another superhero was Katie - who was handling bar and restaurant service on her own... and doing a spectacular job of it! Even more so, she was super kind. So, I private chef along the corridor btw Reno and the Bay Area and, naturally, I had a cooler full of food in my car. When I told Katie I was just going to run out quickly and crack my car windows bc I had food in the car, she graciously offered to allow me to bring it in and keep my cooler in the walk-in. OMG... thank you, thank you, thank you Katie!!! You allowed me to relax and enjoy my meal and beverage without rushing and I am very grateful!

I haven't tried this particular salad at Bennett's before and I was pleased. It's a very large portion, you easily could take some home. It was flavorful packed full of fresh greens, shredded grilled chicken, small chunks of avacado, corn and a mix of other delicious ingredients, and tossed in a light dressing. It came slightly warmed which was very enjoyable. I washed it down with an Arnold Palmer. Very refreshing. Sitting out on the patio was very pleasant as it wasn't too hot outside, and the space is air conditioned in any case. Bennett's service is always friendly and very accommodating and this particular time maintained that special quality. There were plenty of open tables and we sat chatting for way too long after finishing our meal, yet it wasn't an issue. Thanks Bennett's. Always a nice experience.

I was invited to a get-together after work to celebrate one of our residents graduating to become a…read moredoctor. After a long day, I was looking forward to relaxing with a Piña Colada. When the waiter brought my drink, I immediately noticed it didn't look like a traditional Piña Colada, and after tasting it, I confirmed it certainly didn't taste like one either. I politely asked if I could exchange it for a different drink. The waiter returned and said the manager wouldn't allow an exchange but would offer me 50% off instead. I explained that I wasn't happy with the drink and simply wanted to order something else. The manager came over and explained that the menu includes a disclaimer stating the cocktails are made with soju instead of the traditional liquor. In my opinion, the waiter should have mentioned that when I ordered, especially since it significantly changes the flavor. I hadn't noticed the disclaimer--I simply ordered what I thought would be a classic Piña Colada. Unfortunately, I was still charged half the price for a drink I didn't enjoy and wasn't allowed to order a replacement. The manager emphasized that it was too expensive for the restaurant to remake drinks, which I found disappointing. I've never had an experience like this at any other restaurant. On a positive note, I ordered the Reuben sandwich with fries, and it was delicious. That was the highlight of the meal. However, the service was also lacking. Our waiter was slow and couldn't answer several of our questions without repeatedly leaving to ask someone else. Because of the poor customer service and how the drink situation was handled, I won't be returning.

They have a nice room in the back for private parties or for anyone wanting to look at the beautiful landscape behind the restaurant and the whole restaurant in general is a nice setting for dinner or drinks (they have wine, beer, n/a and soju cocktails). Q1227 easily became one of my favorite dining experiences in Sacramento…read more We started with the lobster bites and broccolini. The lobster bites came with a lemon wedge and their house Thousand Island sauce, and that sauce was incredible. The combination of the crispy lobster, lemon, and sauce worked perfectly together. The broccolini was also seasoned really well and paired nicely with the grilled lemon. I ordered an Old Fashioned, and it was one of the smoothest I've had. One detail I loved was that they stamped the restaurant's logo into the ice cube. Small touch, but really cool. For my main course, I ordered the Grilled Huli Huli Chicken with a crispy rice cake, pineapple, greens, and a house sauce that completely made the dish. The sweet and tangy flavor paired perfectly with the chicken. Me and my girlfriend also shared the mac and cheese, and honestly, this was one of the best mac and cheeses I've had. It was rich, creamy, well-seasoned, and the breadcrumbs on top added the perfect texture. My girlfriend ordered the braised short rib with garlic mashed potatoes and carrot purée. The short rib was so tender it practically fell apart with a fork. Everything on the plate was delicious. One thing that surprised me was the portion sizes. Everything was very filling, and we ended up taking some food home. By the time dessert came around, we were already pretty full, but there was no way we were skipping it. To finish the night, we shared the Ghirardelli triple chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, and strawberries. It was the perfect way to end the meal. The restaurant was busy and lively, but it never felt crowded. The tables were spaced out really well, so my girlfriend and I could still enjoy our conversation and watch the basketball game. I also appreciated seeing Chef Q and his wife walking around and checking on guests throughout the night. They stopped by tables to see how everyone was enjoying their food, which was a really nice touch. I even had the chance to take a picture with Chef Q before we left, which was super cool. The broccolini was great too (it was the veggie I chose). And... the carrot cake! Bravo! I love a great carrot cake. The unfortunate negative for us? And I hate to even mention this, but it was definitely a thing for us... the musician, whom I LOVED for his talent and music... was just too loud for us. Not sure what to suggest on that. We enjoyed the music, but we couldn't hear anything else. We couldn't hear each other... we couldn't hear the waiter more often than not... the horn (clarinet) just blasted us out. We weren't RIGHT next to him, we were a couple tables away... but the same side of the room as him. In the future, I'll try to be seated further away if I'm with a group that wants to talk. I was also charged an extra $2 for the toppings, which I paid, but it would have been nice if that had been communicated to me upfront. Unfortunately, after waiting about 40 minutes, the pizzas were very disappointing. My kids immediately said it tasted like cheese bread, and after trying it myself, I agreed. There was barely any sauce at all, which was surprising since I had asked for extra sauce. My kids wouldn't eat it, and I ended up having to take them somewhere else to get pizza. I was really disappointed after driving so far and having high expectations based on the reviews. Unfortunately, I do not recommend this place and will not be returning.

I absolutely LOVE this cafe and miss it very much now that I moved to Orangevale. We used to go twice a week, every week. We somehow managed to always miss the crowds, and never had to wait too long for a table. We always asked for a booth and never got a dirty look or an eye roll from whoever was seating us that day. The C & C is mouth watering goodness and (sarcastically saying) IS allowed on my diet!! They are very family friendly with etch-a- sketch for the kids to play with...or the inner child in you. Several types of hot sauce to chose from. Your coffee and/or water cup will never be less than half full at all times. Staff is so friendly you wonder if they get paid bonus for who smiles the most that day. You can go in there with just about any food craving and have it satisfied. Of the countless times we've been here, I have only been somewhat dissatisfied 2X's and sadly it was the steak, very gristly and tuff. But I know how good the rest of their food is and the staff should be well tipped as they treat you very well. Nothing fancy in the way of style...but it has a very at home feeling of comfort, like you're at a huge family reunion. There are not many grass roots businesses left standing so it's critically important that we support ours. Granite Rock Grill has been a long standing staple in Rocklin both in good times and these recent hard times. Against the odds these folks held it together. Phone orders, curbside, make shift patio and took on frustrated customers with a smile. I have been coming here for years and if you've ever been there on a weekend you have seen these girls work their b&@#'s off. The food quality stands on its own merit, but the customer service is non stop. Kay created a foundation second to none. I have been going to the Granite Rock since they opened. I'm not going to tell you they are the best restaurant for being a Breakfast and Lunch only place. Portions are over the top. The cook('s) always burn my toast and bread on my sandwiches. But price is so great and the quality is good too. Be prepared to argue with the waitresses when they serve you the wrong meal or your omelet comes with items not listed on the menu. They will argue and they can be very nasty....the down side of eating there. I would recommend eating there. Usually pretty fast service even on the busiest days. read more

GRG! Love this place. Down home cooking, with large servings. I have tried a few things on the menu and I have not been disappointed yet. Simple you just charge me for the gator juice but don't add the vodka, MIND BLOWING....i know. She's not friendly and honestly I'm not so sure she belongs in this industry. Everyone else is amazing when it comes to service and overall getting along and treating each other with respect. Again...the FOOD IS SO DELICIOUS.
