This is very much mom and pop place. Although the staff is friendly it took them a while to meet our eyes when we first walked in. The buffet was surprisingly small, the food items were good and the roast beef exceptional. There was pudding for dessert. That's all. The buffet was set up to the right when you walked in and then the seating area was to the left. Once you are seated, to get to the buffet, you have to walk through a crowd of people who are waiting to be seated or walk around behind the cashier where the wait staff hung out. kind of an awkward flow for l buffet especially one that is set up as a buffet only restaurant . The decor was nice the carpet was filthy. We arrived at about 8:30 on a Sunday night. there were several tables that needed to be cleared but the table they seated us at was clean. After we got our first serving they came and asked us if we wanted anything more from the buffet so they could break it down. Then they started sweeping the carpet with a corn bristle broom. one of our pet peeves is sweeping floors while we're eating - all that dust and dirt floating through the air that you breathe and getting into all the food that you eat yuck. We visited with our Azusa StreetRiders motorcycle ministry group of about 60 riders and they were very accommodating. Buffet was great, service was terrific and the pies were scrumptious! Can't say much about the food as we never got to eat it. We arrived around 1 pm with 4 adults and 1 baby. In the time we waited, about 7 groups that came in after us were all seated, several of them having 4 adults. One of the hostesses kept saying that we needed to be seated, but whoever was in charge of seating and ringing up people kept saying that we would have to wait. Finally after about 20 minutes and having 7 groups of people walking in after getting seated first, and almost as many leaving, we finally left. The parking lot here is always packed at meal time so I figured it must be decent. It would have been fine if the hot foot table was actually keeping food hot but it wasn't. The only item that was hot was the scrambled eggs and that's probably because they'd just been put out while I was at the table. Both of trays of sausages were barely warm, as if they weren't being heated at all and were just slowly dropping to room temperature. That's a disaster waiting to happen. This has always been a favorite restaurant when we come to Cherokee, but today was the exception to the rule. We were told when we went in that it was a buffet only and cafeteria style. We were not told that they only had a small variety of food, not at all like before. Very few items to choose from. And we both paid for drinks, but the waitress asked if we wanted coffee after our dinner and my husband said yes, so we were charged another 2.95 added to our bill, we were not told that this was an extra charge. When the manager came over he was extremely rude and accused us of stealing because we wanted the 2.95 taken off of our bill. My husband did not ask for any refill on his tea because he was given a coffee. I am a music Promoter from Pigeon Forge Tn., with the local theatres and I do large promotions in the Cherokee area. Honestly some of the best food I've had in a while. Delicious apples, great mashed potatoes and corn. The chicken was okay but the sides are really where Granny's shine. Coleslaw was also delicious as was the peanut butter pie. They are very strict and cautious with COVID protection which I appreciate. First time here. We are traveling. We saw a lot of cars, so we thought it would probably be good....wrong!! The fried fish was one of two things that I could eat. The tartar sauce was super sweet. Went in on Sunday afternoon. What a chaos. Packed with lots of people standing around the reception area unsure of what's happening. Waited around for a while (older receptionist lady was too busy), some of us got beepers and some of us didn't. When we asked the lady for a beeper since some customers just walked in and got seated while we still stood in a queue. The lady said she could remember how many people before us so no need for a beeper and told us "How difficult is it to stand right here and wait?!". At that point it just didn't seem to be worth it, so we just left. Plus the food didn't seem that impressive either and the buffet table was right by the entrance and cashier, which added to the chaos and unpleasantness of the whole place. This place offers the closest thing to food that I make at home that I can find in Cherokee. We stopped in for dinner and found that it's a buffet. They offered a salad bar, soup selections (when it's 80 degrees outside?) and a southern selection of dinner choices including fried chicken, roast beef, green beans, red potatoes, black eyed peas, corn on the cob, bbq ribs and dinner rolls. The selection wasn't vast and and IS NOT a place for those with dietary restrictions but if you enjoy southern food and can eat fried chicken then you'll be a fan of Granny's. It reminds me of dinner around my grandmother's table as a child. It is NOT from a modern menu, but each and every item is a comfort. Fresh peas, stewed apples, cornbread, and yes--fried chicken.
