Don't you hate it when you spend a crapload of cash on frozen stuff at Costco, only to get to your car & find out it won't start!?? ME TOO!!! And that's what happened to me today. My regular mechanic wasn't answering his phone & that's when I walked to the 1st auto shop, who sent me to the garage, who literally said, "You have to get it here yourself & then I can't even LOOK at it for a week". Then further up 10th to a mechanic who couldn't be bothered. To across the street to Sals. I spoke with Edwin who guessed that I might be out of gas, and trusted me enough to borrow his gas tank. I offered my driver's license, I offered to pay, & he refused. He pointed me in the direction of the gas station & off I went. Long story short - I got the car to start & returned the gas can to Sal's. Edwin thinks it's because I never drive my car, so I'll definitely bring him my car for the tune-up. And you should too! This place used to be good, now it sucks big time because somehow honesty went a different direction... My mechanic at the time wasn't capable of fixing my issue even after hundreds of dollars. I won't even go to this shop for a brake job... This place sounds more reasonable than competitors but in fact it turns out to be more expensive than competitors because they couldn't deliver the promised result for me. It seemed as if it was fixed but the labor was so cheap, it ended up costing me more in follow up repairs cause by the poor labor here... Poor labor, unethical business practices. read more

Sal isn't the same owner but the new lady that runs it is very good about running the business. She definitely doesn't forget good customers or who has been around for a while. She definitely shows love and will work with you. As for the mechanics, Izzy is my guy. He is an expert mechanic who inspires me to learn and put my mind to something specific. I've been taking my '82 Mercedes 300D to Sal's Autohaus for the last 15 years. I've owned the car for almost 20 years, so there were a few years of the other shops which are more expensive and really don't get this vehicle that I tried early on. With a 40 year old car there are always more things to fix, but Isreal keeps the repairs modest and focused on what we need to keep the car dependable and running well. I would not trust another shop with a Mercedes, especially the older models. Beyond this, Isreal is a fantastic person that is kind and honest. read more

My car is a 2007 Mercedes CLK350. I was able to bring my car in without an appointment and drop it off for a routine service a job. The price quoted $145 was also reasonable. The work was also finished in one day. All of this was great. The downside was that when I pick my car up I was charged $173. They changed two bulbs in my car that I did not ask for and charged me for that plus some environmental fee and tax that doesn't add up. While they were working on my car I received a call saying I need new rear rotors and brake pads and new front brake pads. The price they were charging seemed high. Brought the car home to my regular mechanic and he told me my front brakes are fine my rear brakes needed to be done and it cost me way less. read more

He took me under his wing. He not only helped me feel better about the stupid purchase I had made he assured me he could get this little baby back on the road. As a Mercedes owner for 20 years, I highly recommend Sal's Autohaus. Israel is friendly, honest pricing and knowledgeable Mercedes inside out. I was unable to turn the key, wheel locked after battery died of this 2002 ML 500. The worst, the car was stuck in a San Francisco underground garage at Level 5. Before I called Sal's Autohaus, there were 3 Mercedes Roadside assistances & 2 tow trucks came, no one was able to turn the key to get the car to start, nor to tow my ML 500 out of the parking ramp. Of course, I called SF Mercedes dealer. No technician can be sent out to mobile repair my car. I was stuck. Israel answered the phone when I called Sal's Autohaus. I was surprised that he agreed to come without even any on-call service charge. Then, to my surprise again, he started my car in a very short time. My car got out the garage and running again!! Both headlights on my car went out and I wasn't sure if it would be just burned out bulbs or something more. Israel helped me change the headlights out on a 2001 SLK. I dropped by without an appointment and he was able to help me right away. The whole process took about 10 minutes as he was able to swap out the bulbs which was all it needed. He charged me just for the price of the lights which was cheaper than I expected and all in all seemed like a really fair price. Do you have an old Mercedes Benz? Want to go veggie or bio-diesel? Then you need a good mechanic. But congrats - because you have found one - seriously, look no further. Sal and his team are amazing - I cannot count how many times he has performed on the spot repairs for free, or identified a quick fix that prevented unnecessary, time consuming and costly repairs. Here's some examples of on the spot work, most of which was free: * fixed my vacuum hoses preventing my car from stopping - could have charged me hundreds of dollars - fixed it in 2 mins on the spot for free * fixed a leaky tire - noticed it & fixed it free without my even asking * fixed a major problem with my sway bar connector to my front wheel - used a spare part & his know-how * fixed wiper motor - didn't have to replace it * organized a complete repaint job via an outside firm, no benefit to him I am restoring a 1984 300D - and its a bit of a labor of love. But no one knows these old guys like this shop. I would say that he has performed 15-20 repairs on my car - from very minor to semi-major, and every one has been perfect. Sal will even tell me what parts I need for restoration, and I can scour the web to buy them, and when I have them, I simply bring it all in and just pay for labor. Seriously - who lets you do that? For old diesel Mercedes you need an expert, not just a regular old mechanic! They offered me a plate with tortillas and all the fixins!!!! Apart from the food, if you have an older Mercedes that needs some TLC, there is NOWHERE BETTER. This sure made me miss Sal and appreciate him all that much more. Sal is honest, smart and extremely knowledgeable. Not to mention, he's a really good guy. He goes through everything that needs to be done, the costs, benefit, and will try to keep you from spending too much when it may not be worth it. He is a mechanic that should be respected and appreciated for his approach and abilities. He runs a great shop. I noticed he had a 'negative' post, which make me chuckle a little bit. In my opinion, any one who can't get along with Sal or doesn't think Sal is one of the best mechanics on the planet was probably disrespectful to him or his staff. I took my car there because it is an '86 and wasn't idling. I had them remove the carburetor so that I could take it to a specialist since they are incapable of fixing carburetors. The specialist told me there was nothing wrong with my carb, and that it was the stepper motor, and to have the mechanic check the computer of the car to see if it was telling the SM to drill too far into the carb. When I brought the carb back and told them what was needed they didn't listen to me. They put the carb back on and called me a couple days later saying it was fixed and charged me $250. Well, it wasn't fixed. They didn't actually do anything. And when I called to ask him if he even did what the specialist had asked and checked the computer he told me he didn't know how to do that; something he should have told me when I first asked him to. I said, "So you charged me $250 to take the carburetor off and put it back on and didn't actually do any work?" and he said yes. Wow. If you have a simple problem I'm sure they're great but don't take your car here if you need an actual skilled mechanic. read more

I was at Sal's today with my 1976 Mercedes 240D and I was concerned with my dash brake-light was staying on. Israel immediately recognizes the problem and push a relay/reset button near the brake fluid reservoir and the dash light immediately went off. I brought in my 2007 E320 Bluetec diesel for an oil change and general check-up in early April 2014. The shop was able to track down the precise synthetic oil I needed, and change and upgraded d the filter. Most of the associated cost was for the oil, and he brought it in at only a bit more than if I purchased the oil myself and brought it in (which he suggested, so an oil change without the oil would be around $25. Sal checked out car and engine, and said no other work needs to be completed. I was in and out in less than an hour. I'm returning here!! I recommend this shop for all MBZ Diesel owners read more

I had Sal diagnose a squeaky wheel, sounded like a bearing. He wanted to do a brake job instead and some suspension components. He knew that my budget was $300. but tried to get $800. for work I didn't want done. He charged me $45. for just looking at my 1979 240D, which was a complete suprise. I am lucky to get out of Sal's for that little damage, albeit for no work done. I won't go there again. read more

Sal is nothing but a trickster masquerading as an auto mechanic. I went to his shop today after reading all these wonderful, glowing tributes. I guess they were paid appreciations. Here is what happened. This morning at 8:30 I took my wife's Audi to Sal's shop. My wife had noticed oil leakage the evening before and I wanted to try out Sal since he specializes in German cars. The intent was to bring my Mercedes to him next for maintenance. I thought if he did a good job on this, I could make him the stable mechanic for both our cars. Unfortunately, my experience should be a red light for any who consider Sal's Autohaus. Sal told me he will inspect the car, and call with a diagnosis at around noon. At 11am, he called me to tell me that the car had a lot of oil allover the undercarriage, and it needed to be steam cleaned before diagnosis. He further went on to make assessments if its worth repairing the car. I told him its unacceptable to a patient if a doctor instead of giving diagnosis demands he take a shower and talks about end of life without advancing any clue as to problem. He blew a fuse and said its best I came and picked up the car. The matter did not end there. When I arrived to pick up the car at 12 pm he demanded that I pay $45 for inspection. I was not willing to part with any money for an unprofessional auto diagnosis that was nothing but cosmetic e.g. steam cleaning, and demanded for the car keys. I got the keys and left on a torrential abuse of 4 letter words from Sal. Needless to say he lost a potential customer and perhaps stands to lose more with this post. I would think twice before using Sal and his services. Unprofessional and semi skilled would be the best descriptions that I can give to Sal. Good luck if you persist being his client. read more

To the both mechanical was important to take from me as much as possible more money because I set I can pay cash, but not so important to make the service on my car! They didn't do good service on my car, am not satisfied! But they insist me to pay even more money! Of coarse I paid, and then they told me I didn't pay and I owe them money!!! Perhaps I lost them on the way there!!! I was in shock!!! I paid cash the amount they asked and I couldn't prove it because they didn't gave me receipt! One of the mechanics kept repeating that I didn't paid and I lied with the money!!! Sal's Autohaus I feel deceived, and they want to say that I've deceived them! They rely on their regular Spanish speaking costumes with diesel cars! And the new clients that aren't with diesel cars and non Spanish Speaking they are not nice and they lie to them!!!
