Not a bad Mediterranean place in the Toledo area! The servings are huge, atmosphere is comfy, and servers are attentive. I am pretty particular with my food and all was well on my plate and the plates of the others that were will me. I ordered lemon rice soup with my dinner and it was on the salty side for me, why it gets 4 stars, but others in my party had a salad that look fresh and well dressed. Some of the best middle eastern food ever! Lunch prices/portions are great (can order at dinner time too!). Chicken or Steak kabobs are my favorite and their hummus and garlic sauce are to die for. I always sub my side salad for fattoush as it is again one of the best I've had. Must try! read more

I love this place! They have the best hummus in town, and their beef/chicken dishes are simply fantastic. They put a "freshly grilled' flavor in their meats that is unique for this area. The best Shish Cabob I have ever tried in Ohio! We live in Toledo, but go to Holland for dinner now and then. Their aquarium is very nice with tropical sea fish and environment is very comfortable and quiet. One of my favorite restaurants. read more

No, not really a fan.I was invited here as part of a family gathering, having never been here before. It took just this one experience to see why it is so popular. I actually don't like this type of ethnic food and wouldn't choose this for myself. The place is clean and brightly lit, and our server Mohammed was excellent. I did sample the raw kibbe and grape leaves, which did nothing for me but which everyone else raved about. I had fish & chips...which was good but nothing special. The rest of our party loved EVERYTHING they ordered, and they also ordered take-aways for two who couldn't come. The only negative there is isn't really a negative, but it is the reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5. The portions are not large, they are ridiculously large. My advice would be: if you know in advance that you are coming here, eat nothing else that day. Otherwise, be prepared to have 2 take-out boxes for each person...you'll need them. If asked, I would certainly recommend Grape Leaf Diner, but unless I get invited again this will probably be my only visit. read more

I will say first that I have had many good experiences at this restaurant. Typically the food and service are fantastic! I thought about this last night after having eaten there and having been insulted by the waitress. Typically we are asked how everyone is doing or something along those lines when we are first introduced to the person that will be taking care of us, not the case this time. Just simply asked what we would like to drink. This is not a big deal and can be forgiven quite easily. After the drinks came out we put in our order and received our appetizer and soups as promptly as always! The problems started after this, we waited 40 minutes to get any food to the table and the only thing to arrive at that point was my 3 year olds chicken nuggets and fries which were warm but by no means hot... When we asked about the remainder of the food we were not offered an apology or anything of that sort from our waitress, instead, we were told that all the people came in at the same time and the kitchen would get things out eventually... 20 minutes after my son's food was out and he was nearly done eating the other 4 dishes came out and again were warm at best... Not the typical hot that you get from this restaurant. Again we asked what the delay could have been and we were offered no apology or real explanation. At this point we know that this is not a reflection of the restaurant itself and apparently something has angered our waitress during Her day and she has decided to take this out on the family eating with a 3 year old rather then acting happy and friendly with paying customers or at least offering some explanation and apology. Now with that being said we had to ask for our bill after we finished eating and were simply handed it and nothing was even said to us. At some point during the meal and wait we had decided that, although, we typically tip 20% on a bill, the service had been so terrible that the tip would be smaller. We did not stiff the waitress and left a smaller cash tip for her. While my son was using the restroom on the way out of the restaurant the waitress picked up the tip and signed copy of the receipt walked up to me and handed it back and said "I want you to have this back apparently she (my mother) needs it more than me even though this wasn't my fault and it was the kitchens..." for future reference any wait staff that uses a line from the movie "waiting" on purpose to a customer and not to be funny after joking during a meal should re-evaluate where they are at in their life. This was uncalled for and unacceptable! Even though I have had many good experiences at this restaurant (in fact every previous experience had been fantastic) I will now be spending my money at byblos or really, anywhere else for the foreseeable future. As I said in the beginning this is not the way this restaurant is typically and because of this I am giving the restaurant overall 4.5 stars for this review though based on the experience I had this one time I am forced to give 1 star at best and if negative stars were available I would give them. I will not be coming back anytime soon... The 2 stars are the reflection of the average of the times I have been here and should not be taken as the norm for experiences here at all. I did not include the name of this waitress here on purpose simply because I hope that this was just a bad day for her and I have no reason to threaten someone's job over this although anyone that treats someone like that should be fired on the spot! Ok, let me start by saying I am not bashing. I simply want to add my opinion. I recently visited TGL and was not impressed. I noticed on the menu that there was no description with lamb meat for any item. When I asked the young waiter if the option of changing out the seasoned hamburger on any dinner option, for ground lamb, the answer was no. The only item, he pointed out, that is Lamb here was the Lamb Chops. I have to admit I am a frequent flyer at the good ol Byblos on Reynolds Rd. Dissapointed at the menu itens offered, I ordered hummus and grape leafs only, as the desire for my favorite Ara-yes club and LAMB shish kafta was not an option when made with hamburger. The waiter informed us that we could add vegetables to the order in addition to the hummus at a stunning price of 2.99. I obliged since I was hungry, and obviously nervous ordering anything else. As for taste the hummus was a bit too strong of lemon juice, the small amount of vegetables presented, were cut into bite size pieces of tomato, cucumber and a qtr chunk of onion. I was not impressed by the grape leaves at all. Not completely sure why they did not taste well, too sour I think. I paid the bill of 25.00,left the restaurant disappointed and hungry due to leaving all food ordered still on my plate. In comparison, anytime I have dined at Byblos the vegetables are included in the price of hummus, the meals are served with hummus and rice with vegetables when ordering the shish kafta, at a even better price. I spent 25.00 on small amt of chopped vegetables, hummus, 8 grape leafs and chicken nuggets for the kiddo a TGL. I left TGL and directly went to Byblos the same night. However, I spent 40.00, and got 2 plates of hummus, 2 plates of vegetables, 2 LAMB shish kafta, 2 skewers of delicious chicken with lg amt of yummy rice, Ara-yes club, and pita bread with butter, and a piece of baklava ( and one to go). Simply put, I respect TGL, but when it comes to true Middle Eastern food.....No one can compare to Byblos....... read more
