Summary: Since 1994 we've had 2 wood burning fireplaces and 2 gas stove fireplaces from GRASS ROOTS and have had PERFECT RESULTS. Grass Roots IS the BEST in terms of product quality, technically competent installers, and everything else. Brief history then my recent review... 1994: We were adding on a Family Room... our Family Room Fireplace was delivered from Grassroots and installed by my room addition builder. Still working GREAT in 2026 !!! circa 2000: Living Room- Grassroots replaced/upgraded my fireplace I personally bought from Handy Andy and had installed in 1985 with a MUCH BETTER UNIT from Grassroots. So in 2000 they replaced my 1985 fireplace I installed... They did a GREAT JOB retrofitting into our existing fireplace chimney. (Their unit was/is much more efficient than the cheap one I installed when we first moved in in 1985) In 2002 SUN ROOM w/our hot tub, dining room table, etc Grass Roots installed a Gas Stove Heater which lasted 24 years until now. It is/was the ONLY heat source for our glass sun-room with dining room table, hot tub, etc so that served us well for 24+ years. 2026 GRASS ROOTS swapped out our SUN ROOM 24 year old gas stove for a new one.. The NEW ONE is awesome, similar to the old one but heats much better. *** VERY IMPORTANT *** CUSTOMER SERVICE / INSTALLERS *** The 2 Installation Technicians were AWESOME... VERY FRIENDLY, Knew very well the product they were installing. Worked hard with total 3 visits and trying alternative pipes to ensure they could still use our existing chimney/vent. (This is a GREAT THING - we did NOT want to have to swap out our existing chimney vent - they selected a few alternative chimney pipes to make sure it would be PERFECT!!! and allow us to keep our existing chimney vent pipe vs force fit something in) So when they visited, took measurements, tried pipes, ordered additional pipes or supplies and said... we are here to do it RIGHT... NOT JUST QUICK... We were VERY MUCH IN AGREEMENT. So in summary, this last installation was PERFECT. They did what was required to re-use our existing chimney vent. They took the time to get the right materials, and do it right rather than do it in 1 visit and force fit the wrong parts. My wife and I TOTALLY RESPECT and APPRECIATE them for taking the time to find, order, and install the CORRECT PARTS rather than wing-it and force fit something in with 1 or 2 visits. So in closing... we are REPEAT CUSTOMERS. Next time we need something done, GRASS ROOTS is OUR GO TO store. Thanks again for a great job with very technically competent and friendly installers. The service is outstanding!! I live within a few miles of the store... and I've stopped in several times over the past few years considering the installation of a new fireplace. Every time I visited, I was greeted with honest and educated information... they were willing to teach me about their products, installation, etc. There was never pressure to purchase... and after 3 years and multiple visits, we finally made the investment. The installers did a fantastic job... lined up the unit perfectly where we had planned and even made a height adjustment that I hadn't accounted for. They truly knew what they were doing. After the install, I purchased stone veneer through Grassroots and Mark was willing to share his experience and guide me through the process. Again... awesome service... they truly want their customers to be at ease, understand the process, and be happy with the results. We have had many fires in the new unit, and couldn't be happier. Since this project, I have spoken with several people (not affiliated with Grassroots) that shared other positive experiences. One individual told me that his dad has been using Grassroots for decades, and that he would only go through them. When I mentioned my new fireplace to another person at work, they asked if I purchased it through Grassroots... sharing that they've experienced awesome service and knowledgeable staff. I purchased firewood and mentioned where I purchased my fireplace, and the vendor shared that he has purchased several units from Grassroots and that their service is exceptional. Sad to hear of the few poor experiences... I have only heard really positive feedback from many other people, and my personal experience over the past few years has made me a believer in a local business with great staff and service. I wanted to thank the two installers that were came to my house on Tuesday for a service call on my wood pellet stove. I bought this home last year and didn't even know pellet stoves existed until I saw the unit in my basement. I read the owners manual and did everything I thought I was supposed to be doing. Turns out I was wrong, due in part to the previous owners never having the unit properly serviced after it was installed. Which coincidentally enough happened to be done by your company, which was kind of mind blowing. How lucky was I to call for a service appointment and just so happen to have it be the business that did the original installation. The guys you sent, well I cannot say enough good things a bout them both! Holy cow, they clearly know their stuff and in my opinion went above and beyond to make sure everything was working properly and cleaned to the point where this thing looks and works like it is practically brand new. Thank you for providing additional warmth, safety and peace of mind knowing this stove has been professionally serviced and seems to be running better than I ever thought it could. For the amount of time and effort they put into getting my stove to run properly the bill was more than fair. You will have a customer for life after this experience. Spent a few hours learning about the varios options for our plans to install a new fireplace. The staff was super friendly and very knowledgeable. We narrowed it down to 3 different models and asked for some tempmates so we could set our space to accommodate them properly. We called to schedule install for ASAP since it was September and knew they would get busy. Mark said he would come by and pre measure our space and that was excellent customer service. We discussed the models and decided with the Shelburne. We made the mantel and they came out when scheduled. The installers called 30min before arrival and got there on time. Max and Bob were very organized and talked me through the install process and worked with us on the location for install. We had a specific spot and made everything per the specs. With little adjustments they were very accommodating. The whole install was great. read more

We purchased our fireplace from Grass Roots about 10 years ago. At that time the sales, service and installation went as smooth as can be. The fireplace has added warmth and beauty to our living room over the years. But that's only part of the reason I am writing this review. This fall when I got ready to fire it up I ran into a problem that required me to take a trip to Grass Roots. The customer service I received from Mark was outstanding! He helped me diagnose the problem and provided me with the information and expertise I needed to fix my problem without needing a service call. THE BEST PLACE TO BUY A FIREPLACE. I went into this store not knowing a thing about wood fireplaces. Not only was Mark and the staff helpful they took the time to explain the differences of each fireplace and which one would be best for my location. I bought a Enerzone 2.5 ZC. They walked me through the steps of the install and by the time I was done I felt like I was an expert. There is no other store that compares to this place, not only do they have a HUGE selection to choose from, the staff makes you feel like family. For our first wood stove we decided to check out the local place, Grass Roots Energy and we couldn't be happier. Their showroom is awesome and so is their staff. Mark and Amy were very helpful, they answered many questions and helped us narrow things down quickly. My brother bought a wood burner from this company a few years ago. So when we decided to finally purchase a fireplace insert this is the first place we went. Mark spent a lot of time going over things with us and answered all our questions, we were so impressed we purchased one before we left the store. The crew of Jeff and Michael arrived on time and installed the insert within a few hours. They took time to take off the mantel and even took our old grate away for recycling. We purchased our Lopi wood burning fireplace here and it was an amazing experience - and it was 17 years ago! We had Grass roots install and they did a great job. When we moved to Kane county we had them uninstall it in Crystal lake and re-locate it for us. They have helped us with the (occasional part - which is infrequntly because these Lopi are made to last ! quality!) and amazing CUSTOMER SERVICE! always helpful, friendly, sometimes busy yes, but always willing to help, provide info, order parts (at fair prices) and make you feel valued. Nice people, they know there stuff. Installers polite and clean. We had them install a Regency i2450 wood burning insert in to our crappy cold drafty fireplace with 30' outside wall brick chimney. It looks and works great. A little challenging to get initial draft on a real cold and windy night - trick is to preheat with all instant light propane torch for 2 min. The fan is quiet and throws lots of heat. Fire is aggressive and fun to watch. Biggest challenge is to find dry wood late in season, we have had many fires more than predicted! read more
