Some folks are disputing this but think about it, do you want the pilot of your plane on your trans-Pacific flight with 100 hours of flight experience?? Or do you want the person with 10,000 hours?? Speaking of pilots, the pilot light in my gas fireplace kept going out and it kept going out when outside temperatures went below 25F. That's right, it went out when you needed it most. So after firing up the pilot light manually for seemingly over two Winters, I said to myself, this is insanity. So I used Yelp to conduct a comparative analysis and called four fireplace companies. Here were the outcomes of those calls: - one company does not fix gas fireplaces. - the second company made me leave a message and it took the guy like 3 days to call back and he had an attitude like he was disgruntled from the get-go (meaning from the onset). - the third company wanted to charge a service call for diagnosing the problem and couldn't comment on the overall costs. - the fourth company was Hearth & Home and Pat (who turned out to be the owner) was a straight shooter (meaning forthcoming with details). Pat asked the year, make, model, serial number of my gas fireplace. He listened to me about my fireplace's symptoms and gave me a likely diagnosis and projected costs of the part and service. I had a very good feeling about his Integrity and thought the cost was reasonable. The appointment was booked and weeks later, Mike came as scheduled. Mike has 10 years experience and although he huffed and puffed here and there while fixing it, I had no doubt that with his expertise (10,000 hours) we would be up and running in no time. And that's what happened, my fireplace got fixed, within budget and right in time for me to make it to the Yelpies event last week!! Thank you Pat, Mike and H&H for this professional experience. Mike came and removed our oak logs, and cleaned the fire bed. He cleaned all the 8 logs, set a new bed of embers, rearranged the logs and finished cleaning the fire box. We visited the Hearth and Home showroom to pick out the stone, fireplace insert, hearth, and mantel. The staff (we worked with Jim) was helpful and knowledgeable. I am truly happy that they have so much business that they can have an arrogant bitter man standing at the counter, disinterested in saying hello to a potential customer when they walk in. When I asked for help, explaining what we were looking for (demo and rebuild/enlarging our fireplace facing) before asking me a single question began telling me what additional items we need, ie a new firebox. Not once , but 3 times. Now we literally had zero conversation about it and his lack of curiosity was only matched by his immediate need to upsell. For reference, we had our current fireplace inspection not once, but twice, as we just moved to the area. Both said firebox was in good shape. Highly recommend Hearth & Home! We were working with a separate contractor to remodel our basement, but purchased a gas insert from H&H and hired them for installation as well. Tom was great in the showroom and on the purchasing end; he told us all about our different options, was very knowledgeable, and was quick to call back and get our project on their schedule. On installation day we hit a pretty major hiccup (no fault of H&H) in that we had a blockage in our chimney so the liner could not be inserted. Whereas our contractor basically left us high and dry to figure things out, H&H helped us brainstorm solutions and referred us to an awesome mason to fix the problem. Ryan was great on the installation end. He worked with our mason to get back to our house on specific day to be sure they were able to get the liner in while the chimney was opened up and then again got us on the schedule in a timely fashion to finish the project. In addition to purchasing a fireplace insert, we also ended up purchasing some beautiful stacked stone from them for a separate project. You can see the stone in their showroom along their main counter. Everything went seamlessly with that as well. Very glad we chose to work with Hearth & Home... they made what became a bit of a stressful project with our contractor, less stressful! read more

They have a private parking lot and offer delivery service for all the larger items. Staff is always pretty friendly and definitely knowledgeable. The only draw back is sometimes it takes a while to be helped and they have to write up an invoice for every purchase. The large outlet has everything you can think of when it comes to fire. The selection of both wood and gas powered fireplaces is second to none. If I was ever in the market for one this would be my first place to look. I shop there for their barbecue equipment. They offer a wide selection of Big Green Egg, Solaire and Green Mountain grills. They also have all the accessories and toys to make grilling even more enjoyable. I have stopped there a few times for lump charcoal, but prices are a bit high compared to other similar shops. They also have all sorts of outdoor patio equipment that you won't find at the big box stores. Hearth and Home was the first to respond, asked for a photograph of the issue and then called me with their thoughts and recommendations ---all while not collecting a dime from me. We bought 3 electric heaters in July. Told us they would arrive in 4 weeks. Didn't arrive for 3 months. Not mad with delay due to covid.
