We had an issue with a newly installed fireplace in an addition to our house - it did not draw well. Northshore was able to quickly diagnose the problem (chimney installed by builder too low) and was able to add an extension so our fireplace burns very nicely now. During our search to update our Fireplace we came across Northshore Fireplace. Now I didn't grow up in this area, but I was raised to think that anything that had Northshore in front of the business name, meant you could automatically add 20%. I was wrong. The education my wife and I received from Paul was incredible. He gave us all the options and even talked my wife off the ledge of painting some exposed brick. We have been using wooden logs in our fireplace for 20 + years. Last year I decided to checkout manufactured logs. These people know what they are doing. My problem is fixed. I described my problem over the phone - smoke coming out of the opening of the fireplace. They quickly understood and diagnosed the problem, told me what I needed to do and they had exactly what I needed. One quick drive over to the place and I entered the store. I had expected to pick up the part to insert at the top front of the fire place and be out of there in five minutes ... except they have everything from all periods of time and for every type of fireplace. If you need something related to fireplaces they will have it. If you like fireplaces and all of the tools that go along with them, the store will be a candy shop for you. We visited Northshore Fireplace to investigate gas fireplace inserts after changing from a woodburning fireplace to a gas fireplace. Although I can't remember who helped us understand our options, we were very happy with the result. They offer several different looks in logs. They installed our log unit as well. I wish I could give zero stars for this place. We had an in-home estimate in October to which they were going to provide a quote in a "couple of days". Well, complete radio silence after that. Have tried to contact them 4 or 5 times with zero response. Total lack of respect and a horrible way to do business. What a horrible place as far as customer service is concerned. We came in looking for modern fireplace and when the guy came out he looked like he was being punished by customers walking in. After telling him that we needed at least 50 inch fireplace he advised us that a 32 inch fireplace cost a lot of money-I am not sure what he meant by that. He also was not up-to-date with all the modern products and prices. There were no brochures, or catalogs. Do not waste your time going there. read more

I've worked with Northshore Fireplace many, many times over the last ten years. As a designer I am frequently asked for advice about fireplaces, as they are often the focal point of a room. The Central Street shop has tons of options for both purchase and inspiration, and customization is always an option. The range of designs and finish options for screens is vast. When it comes to construction, function, and safety issues Paul and Jim know what they're doing and have provided me and my clients with guidance and education. One important note: these guys are not salesmen per se. They will greet you, maybe, but are not the smiley, super friendly, follow you around the store and chit chat kind of salesmen. You might have to wait a few minutes if they're with someone else or dealing with a delivery...but hang in there! They know their stuff and I have always had a good result. read more

I made an appointment for the company to come out. Once here they dusted the gas grills, and wouldn't deal with any other problems. They were here for about 20 minutes, including time to put shoes on and prepare the bill. $89.95 is way overpriced for this kind of work. I had to get someone else to finish of the job "done right." What a waste of money and time. The problem is that many other people also do poor work, so you're scraping the bottom. read more

Paul is a great asset to Northshore Fireplace and to customers! My husband and I wanted to restore our 1916 gas fireplace back to working order. We knew that we had to have the gas pipes re-installed and hooked up, but didn't realize that it was not necessary to demo the existing brick and install an insert to the current vent. Paul has a wealth of knowledge and informed us that originally our fireplace contained a heater which used gas to heat asbestos fabric to warm the room. He showed us an example they had in the store, that of course had the asbestos and insides removed. Paul helped us pick out an antique grate and ordered vent-less logs to fit. Chris gave us a very reasonable quote on hooking up the pipes and he and his crew did a bang up job getting us up and running. Paul did not try to oversell us, and in fact we ended up spending half what we thought we would! We found everyone associated with Northshore to be friendly and helpful and we highly recommend them! read more

I had Northshore Fireplace come in to do a gas conversion on my grill. The two gentlemen they sent were AWESOME. Real professionals, polite courteous and efficient. They finished the grill in less then 40 minutes even came inside the house to show me where the gas gets turned on. Honestly the best experience I have had with service people. I called Northshore Fireplace on a referral. They are one of the only servicers of ventless gas fireplaces in the area, or at least that I could find. I explained that we'd never tried to start our fireplace in the 6 years we've lived here, and when we did try to start it, it wouldn't start. I asked how much the service call would be, and they were $60 less than the other place I'd called. But the man on the phone said it didn't sound broken, and rather that we needed to bleed the air out of the line. He explained how I could do that, and even walked me through it in more detailed when I called back a second time. Lo and behold, his advice worked perfectly. I was completely ready to pay for a service call, and he saved me the time and expense of that. I have to give him a lot of credit for that. He could have made an easy buck. And also, he deserves credit for knowing just what I should do with a novice explaining the situation over the phone. 5 stars! read more

We have not had a good experience with this company. When we had trouble with our expensive, custom fireplace doors rusting after less than two years, Paul was not very enthusiastic about trying to help resolve the problem. He did the bare minimum to research having them refinished and wanted to charge for every little thing. He also wanted to blame every potential scenario that did not happen and wouldn't even consider that the product may be potentially defective. He was disrespectful and hung up on our builder when he was trying to explain what work he did around the doors. His partner Jim was equally unhelpful. Their customer service is sorely lacking and we regret hiring them to have the doors made and installed in the first place. There are too many companies who appreciate their customers and try to be helpful when things go wrong than to use a company like this who doesn't care. read more
