Came out earlier than quoted. Ended up catching a gas leak and helped give a reference.

In addition, a more-than-sufficiently-large hole was cut into the back of the chase for the vent, which to my recollection did not receive any insulation either. I didn't think much of it until winter hit--bringing serious cold air drafts, along with frosty ice build up on the front of the fireplace frame within the house. I have since learned the repeated ice build up and melting will lead to wood rot, mold and rusting of the fireplace. I sent a few emails to Neal (the owner) about the issue. He not only refused to discuss it, but is also trying to push the responsibility off on a handyman. That is, prior the fireplace install, Ithe overhang edge of the chase roof had to be removed so the outside gas vent would have more clearance. Due to Neal's high "day rate" for a few hours of work, I hired my own guy to remove the overhang. Neal also wanted the fireplace box removed to measure clearance inside the chase and he subsequently rec'd photos and measurements. Despite clear lack of insulation and drywall across the ceiling of the chase, he and his team never mentioned it, nor did they come prepared to satisfy that aspect per IL energy code. With exposed plywood and nails from the shake roof above, and torn drywall corners visible, they simply installed the fireplace box, leaving the entire ceiling of the chase without insulation or drywall. I'm not the fireplace expert; I relied on him and his team--just as they directed that the overhang on the outside should be removed. Just as they directed to clear out the old fireplace box so they could measure. Yet...no mention of energy codes or insulating the chase. It would certainly be incumbent on a company claiming to be professional fireplace installers to address this one way or another, vs simply ignoring it. No wonder this company requires deposits upfront followed by immediate payment in full. I have also since learned they have held onto my credit card info (more than a year and half later) and charged a service fee without my authorization ($257.50 to change a few double A batteries instead of mentioning "there are batteries, did you check them?" when I called to say the fireplace wasn't turning on). Certainly leaves the customer feeling taken advantage of. Very bad experiences all around with Fireplaces Plus. UPDATE: He threatening me with a lawsuit unless I remove my review. My review is honest and accurate. I wonder how often other unhappy customers have felt intimidated enough by his lawsuit threat to remove their negative reviews...?

I purchased new logs, grate, burner, lava rock for my gas fireplace in my family room. "Clean out…read morethe old and install all new" was my goal. First of all Robin, my sales person was very very professional in his presentation and I felt comfortable ordering from him. He expedited the installation and today, a fine young gentleman named Taylor installed it. It looks great and I am very pleased! They have also installed several Broil Master outdoor grills at my various homes in the area that they service over many years. Again, very pleased with the service, installation, and the products that they represent. Highly recommend them. Thank you!

UPDATED 3/11/26. Here's what I had to deal with ever since they redid my patio:…read morehttps://youtu.be/tA2aaeo_bbM Original Review back in 2024: Do NOT hire them to do your patio. I had them come re-sand and reseal, and the sand filled in is falling apart on one side of my patio as well as the edges in only a few months. They came a second time to try to fix it. Told them to let me know when they come because I want to be there whey they start so I can see what they're doing. I did not trust they were doing it well. They came out but didn't let me know and only after they had started, they came to me. That pissed me off, because I explicitely told them to wait until I am outside with them because of that and that I had questions. That request was blatantly ignored. Now about a couple months later, that sand is falling between the cracks and soft to the touch, I can literally compress it with my finger and I now have sand missing between cracks all over the place on one side of my patio again. There's no way they sealed that because that sand wouldn't be soft to the touch and able to compress with your finger! It's not only soft, they don't even put enough sand in it let alone forget to seal the damn thing. The second time they came out, they try to blame it on water, as if I'm an idiot (sure after a few months I expect this to all fall apart). There's nothing that would cause this. Regular rain shouldn't cause a $2k+ job to fail after a few months. The prior company who sanded this patio, the sand was not falling apart like this anywhere. Even after 5 years. Now I'm going to have to refill that sand and fix this myself. Maybe learned a lesson, just do this stuff yourself. Do it right the first time and you won't have reviews like this. Or customers that annoy you because you can't do your job well. They claim "warranties to match our underrepresented workmanship!". What warranty? I got no warranty and even when they come to fix the mess up, it still falls down. Anyone gets rain, even down pours. It's very clear what areas they did not do properly because the rest of the patio is holding ok. I expect a job to last a few years not a few months. Rain and nature happen, we expect this to hold up at least on average 3-5 years. I'm just going to seriously go back to Menards, there's a mexican guy there who knows a lot about this, and he's told me how I can just fix it myself and save money. He explained the different sealants, etc. and the pros and cons. That's exactly what I am going to do. No more hiring people for this. The ants are even crawling into the cracks now. Good times, right before it starts getting cold outside. So glad I have to spend a couple hours fixing this sh** now. I don't normally go out and rant like this but any moron can see this is not done right. You f up the job, you redo it. I expect the craft to be done well. You make mistakes, you fix it. You don't just tell people it is what it is and make excuses like you did with me after the fact.

As a firefighter/paramedic who prides himself in customer service, I regret to inform you North…read moreStar Stone does not! These old reviews certainly didn't help me, so hopefully my newer and accurate review can help you, and save you from wasting your time like me! I emailed one of their employee's named Sherry DeMatteis in an attempt to schedule a meeting to see their showroom (required by North Star Stone per their website). We agreed upon a date and time to meet. When I showed up for the scheduled meeting, Sherry had the date incorrect and nearly turned us away after driving an hour to get there! The NEW owner overheard our conversation and even though he was leaving for the day, met with us quickly (Shaunak Ahuja). He was very brief, and was teaching Sherry during our meeting as she was taking notes and asking questions to the newer owner. They kept referencing how the previous owner had left the business unexpectedly. The NEW owner ghosted us by never responding for months. I tried to place an order, but simply can't, and now with all this time that has lapsed with lack of response, I no longer wanted to. Our original meeting was held before school started for my children in August! Over four months with NO PROGRESS. Very frustrating and now we have to start over. I have reached out to Sherry twice via cellular phone, sent emails to Sherry DeMatteis at member+jp7144938@jobprogress.com, Alan@hxhome.solutions, and info@northstarstone.biz (all gathered from their website), but no response has been met in months. UPDATE 11-14-2022: When I originally wrote this review of North Star Stone, the newer owner, Shaunak Ahuja, contacted me via email, text, and by cellular phone. He promised to "make things right," and gave me his cell phone number. After contacting me a few times and me finally placing an order through Shaunak Ahuja, I came to find out his phone was full at 25G, and no order was actually placed or sent out. Shaunak Ahuja stated again he would send out the order that day. It's been almost a month since he resent the order. He has told me continually that he would send a contract, but no contract has been sent. I was hoping to update my review with a better and more positive response from the Owner and company, but unfortunately the facts are what they are. If this is how they handle customer service before and after placing an order, what happens when/if something goes wrong after the orders placed? Or installation? I would certainly rather not find out. I hope this review helps you. Best of luck of your home improvement projects!
