The food here is, for the most part, excellent. It has many choices for someone that wants a tasty vegan alternative. They have an eager crew. The problem I find is that there's no sense that they know what they're doing once it get a little busy. If it's half full I'd avoid this place if you're in any kind of schedule. Servers will deliver one item at a time when it would be possible & more efficient to deliver the whole order. This takes training and a manager on site. There didn't seem to be any one in charge. When there's a reason for a delay, a simple explanation and an apology would be nice. After waiting 1/2 hour I allotted about our order. I was told not to worry it's coming. It hadn't been started. "We're busy", won't cut it. Beef up the training and I'll give this 5 stars. read more

Was driving through Tarrytown and needed healthy nourishment. This was the perfect place. Was able to get a fresh pressed green drink (kale, cuke, celery, ginger, lemon). Everything on the menu looked great and the staff were fabulous. Management must take good care of them because everyone working there seemed genuinely happy to serve. What a gem and what a terrific location. Right near the Tarrytown train station. Breakfast and lunch items. Coffee (but no lattes or caps), tea and other nice looking choices. I had toast (naturally). It was very good. Had a bit too much 'stuff' on it for me - could have done without the salsa but tasty all the same. I had the Root Burger and it was amazing! (And this is coming from a person who prefers meat burgers over veggie burgers until i had this). Now this is one of my favorite veggie burgers of all time. There was so much flavor in the beets, and they were very fresh. The bun was fresh and had a balance of toasty crunch yet soft to the bite. This is a fantastic spot for Vegans and Vegetarians. There are plenty of options and the food tastes pretty good. It is more of a walk in cafe but there are spots to sit inside and out. The staff are friendly and very accommodating. I'm not a huge fan of the location (inside of a strip mall) but it doesn't take away from the experience of eating here. I came here with my best friend who is vegetarian and got the beet burger with a fried egg. It was interestingly good and a unique concept for a burger. I wasn't a huge fan of the fried Cauliflower nuggets. I would come back and try other foods on the menu. read more

Grass Roots Kitchen is a great place for a clean, fresh, and delicious meal that satisfies all diets (vegan and vegetarian options available)! We stopped by while we were doing laundry next door and ordered the Veggie Burrito, Chicken Chorizo Burrito and Side Green Salad. The Veggie Burrito was very delicious. I loved the puffed grains with the BBQ sauce. Good flavor profile. I think the avocado was getting overpowered by the BBQ sauce but I wasn't too bummed about it. The perfect fast-casual spot for vegans! Even though the menu isn't fully vegan, half their menu is vegan and it's some of the best options I've seen. At first this spot stood out as a vegan place close to another place I love "sweet grass grill" but falls short in everything from the taste of the food to the portion size. The philicheese burrito tastes like an oily stir fry.. which was sad... the Mac and cheese tasted as if it lacked soul. It could have been Velveeta for all I know. The falafel burger wasn't that bad, but lacked the essence of what falafel should always be served with.. sauce! for 8$ it was extremely small, wasn't sure what I was expecting from this place but I probably won't be returning.. the only saving grace that gave this place an extra star for me was that the food came out fast.. almost as if it was already made and they bagged it onced we placed the order. read more

Came here for lunch with my family, after visiting the Rockefeller estate. It's a nice atmosphere with very helpful staff. We all had the Mediterranean bowl, two of us with grains, two of us with the cauliflower base. Delicious, unique and plentiful! In addition our son ordered a smoothie with peanut butter, very good, though a little pricey, and the root fries. This is where the extra star was lost. I found them to be too greasy, not crispy enough, and very pricey! I'd skip this side. If ever in the area I'd certainly go back. read more

I've eaten here several times since they opened but the food has gone down hill. Three of us ordered take out last night and most of it was awful. The cheeseburger was paper thin (McDonald's has a thicker burger) and tasteless. They served it on a nice bun but it tasted like a bread sandwich. The kale drink was watery and also flavorless. The cauliflower bowl was the star of the show, but a bit small as an entree. The Lux burger was disappointing but again a bit on the thin side. The root soup was inedible. Went right into the garbage after the three of us tasted it. Afterwards we were all still hungry so had to go get take out from Main Street Pizza! I want this restaurant to stay in business so please revisit your dishes and add some flavor and density to them. That this place is not a full 5 star AVERAGE rating is crazy. This food is SO good and as many times as I have eaten here, they have never missed. Whether you are vegan/vegetarian or not, this is some of the best flavored and unique food you can get in the area. I love this spot so much and I think you would too. We grabbed lunch when passing through the area and were so thrilled by the vegan options. I had the vegan Philly cheesesteak burrito (made with seitan) and my husband had the vegan pulled pork sandwich (made with soy curls). Both were excellent!
