I sent a letter of complaint to the owner of the Grass Valley Courtyard Suites about the following, and to date, have not received a response. My wife and I spent the night of September 26th, 2021 at the hotel. When we arrived for our one-night stay at about 7:30 p.m., I checked in at the office. I was greeted by a young woman working at the desk. I noticed right away as I approached the building before entering that she was not wearing a mask. As I entered the office, she made no effort whatsoever to "mask up", even though she was standing pretty close to me behind the front desk. The questionable behavior of the employee astonished me, because in most areas of California, county health mandates require the wearing of masks indoors, and businesses are complying with the rules. Indeed, that is the requirement in Nevada County where the Courtyard Suites is located, and other businesses in Grass Valley seem to be following the health orders. On the morning of our departure, I heard a knock outside our door. I opened the door and encountered a group of women who were preparing to clean the room next door. Of the three who were there, only one was wearing a mask. When I asked them why they were not wearing masks to protect the public and each other, one of them answered that they were following all health protocols. She also said that they were "working on it" to get vaccinated. I observed quite a few other hotel employees not wearing masks as well. When I went in to the hotel office when we checked out, all of the women working in the breakfast area were not wearing masks, and the two women working behind the desk were not wearing masks either. I would describe the seemingly cavalier attitude of the owners and managers regarding the safety of their guests and their employees as appalling. It makes me wonder what other safety laws they are not following. I will never stay here again, and if I could, I would rate the hotel with a negative five stars. read more

This was my second time hosting a meeting for our group at this location. Mandy was amazing! She is true hotelier. On multiple occasions, she went above and beyond to ensure my group was taken care of. I accidentally failed to order a meal for one of our attendees and she was quick to assist me in picking up the order herself. This is a fantastic location to host a group. read more

This place makes my soul happy. It's deffinatly just a charming little hotel that is tucked away in outside in grass valley. It actually has this nice little at home feel to it when you walk up. We went up to the front desk to check in and the people who work there are just so nice! They give you a little map of the place and tell you about breakfast and the wine tasting that's in their adorable little dining area. I went to the room and it was deffinatly the cool room with the amazing exposed brick wall, a little basket of snacks for purchase and a Minnie fridge filled with drinks for purchase. When you walk up to the upper level you realize that there is a grassy area that they use for receptions and events It's pretty unique beacuse there is a giant pine tree rooted onto that area. It makes the place feel so alive! We went to the cheese & wine happy hour. They had a little dish you could make with fruit, olives, cheese nibs, crackers, olives and artichokes. They also had local red and white wine too. It was a extremely short walk into town and we did enjoy just walking around and exploring! In the morning they have breakfast. They have omlets & waffles. They also have fresh fruits, yogurts and orange juice. I actually was a giant fan of the breakfast. It was quite tasty! Overall, we just had a lovely time! I will deffinatly be back to enjoy this place more often! There was nothing bad about this place. The only sad part was that there was a little cat that was so sweet at the hotel. It was actually left by a former owner close by. She was the most friendly cat and had no real place to go. If anyone is looking for a cat, I would highly recommend paying a visit to this little furball and seeing if she is the kitty for you. I picked some thorns out of her tail and I do feel really bad that she is stuck there with no real owner. I really wanted to take her home myself, but can't due to the conflict of interest with my current cat! read more

What a wonderful, quaint hotel! This was our second time staying here and definitely not our last! From the moment we checked in we were greeted with smiles and helpful employees. We had a bit of trouble locating our room so one of the employees, who was going on a break, walked us to our room! Our room was great! Clean, spacious and comfy beds. In the past we had the breakfast and it was delicious. This time we decided to try the local diner Humpty Dumpty which I highly recommend. This hotel is within walking distance to virtually everything downtown. Park once and enjoy everything Grass Valley has to offer! read more

Great place to stay. The only regret I have is that I only got to stay there one night for work. The staff was friendly and helpful during check in and quickly answered any questions I had with ease. The happy hour was fantastic with the assortment of meats and cheese, fruits and wines, the only thing it was missing was a few more hours. Breakfast the next morning was fantastic, so good I had to take a picture of my food to brag to my friends. I was lucky enough to get a newly renovated room as I was told they were making their way across each building updating things but it was great. Very modern look and feel, it didn't feel cheap and there was a great mixture new to go along with that feeling of small town MidWestern hospitality. Super impressed with this place and their staff, if I ever go back this way again I'll be staying here. read more

The rating were good, but The room was definitely not worth $290 I had to book quickly because of a death in the family , so the same room that would have been more like $150 was jacked up for a Saturday night. If I hadn't been as emotionally exhausted I would have tried to find something else that provided more value... The room was tiny. Since it said it was Courtyard Suites I expect couch and coffee table, somewhere to kick back other than the bed or tiny upholstered chairs which were needed for putting my bag on. The heater/air con unit remote makes no sense at all. By the time I gave up fighting with turning on the heat, the front desk had closed for the night. I was happy when the heat did come on briefly at 6am- waking me- but at least it was a bit warmer. Can't comment on the shower because my room was too cold to use it. I had to wait 4 hours until I drove home to get cleaned up. Won't return I will say that the people at the desk were very nice, I just wish I had asked them to turn on the heat earlier and also asked why they jacked the price so high. I had a reservation a couple of weeks earlier and the price was much less. I didn't expect to get fleeced. read more

I stayed in the room with Evan M. in July 2017 and I echo all the complaints he wrote in his review below. To the manager who responded to Evan's review below: it's pretty easy to just say that your hotel was all booked up for the night and that no one else complained in an effort to try and delegitimize someone's review. The fact is we didn't see anyone else staying in the room next to or near us that night, nor did we see any signs of anyone staying near or around us that night, so I'm pretty sure the hotel wasn't. So even if no one else complained, it's because no one else was close enough to hear the ridiculous non-stop yelling and broken glass that we endured from midnight to at least 4am. Either way, it's not relevant whether anyone else complained because even when one guest complains, the hotel should verify it and do what they can to resolve the problem. The hotel shouldn't have to wait until 10+ noise complaints roll in before they decide to take action. The worst part is the hotel lied (shocker) about what they could and were actually going to do. No one is saying they have control over people who live beyond their property line, but part of the service they provide to hotel guests should include bare minimum service like making a simple 2-minute phone call to the police to ensure that your hotel guests can get a decent night's rest. In our case, the hotel said they'd call the police, but four hours later, it was abundantly clear to us they hadn't and weren't going to, either. At that point, we took matters into our own hands and called the police ourselves. Another big shocker: police dispatch told us they hadn't received any calls from the hotel management that night. So lo and behold the police showed up about 10-15 minutes after we called and broke up the party. The hotel displayed pure laziness that night because they just refused to do anything. So while they maybe can't "control" the people who live beyond their property line, our experience showed us they refuse to even try or take any accountability as the owner/operator of the business. You'll be on your own, people! They don't care how close their hotel is to surrounding houses that throw all-night ragers, so take this review as a warning about the hotel's location and their attitude about complaints. At best, you'll just get a snarky reply a few days later saying they wished your "sensitivities" hadn't been "put upon." read more

Loved our stay here in the King Patio room. The room was spacious with a couch and the patio was very large with a table and 4 chairs. We enjoyed the spa during the night we were staying at the hotel. All of the front desk ladies were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was yummy! Lots of options. Within walking distance of all of the shops, places to eat and wine tasting spots in downtown GV. You won't be disappointed! read more

Very nice room. Super clean. Very comfortable. Tempur-pedic mattress was wonderful. Great nights sleep. Friendly and hospitable staff. Excellent parking and room access. Only one drawback... Bad experience in the breakfast dining area for breakfast. Wonderful spread of food. Atmosphere was miserable. There were about 5 people dining besides my family. All "hoarding about" the breakfast bar as if it was the last meal they will have in a week. No background noise, just deafening, awkward silence. I felt like I couldn't even breathe without feeling like I'm annoying the other patrons. Frustrating. If you don't like awkward settings, consider a nearby restaurant for breakfast. read more

We stayed here while participating in the Cal4Wheel Winter Fun Fest. I reserved a King room and at the last minute I asked for an additional roll away bed and asked to bring my dog. I was told (prior to my arrival) that my particular room was set up perfect for a roll away bed and my dog was welcome. I arrived to find my room all set up and a nice welcoming surprise for my dog in the room. I was surprised to see my room was assigned prior to my arrival and they took every step to provide that personal welcomed feel. The room was perfect, bed comfortable, honor bar stocked nicely. My only critique or criticism is parking is not guaranteed and is minimal, but I had no issues getting a spot close to my room. I will definitely come back here and stay again! read more

Back in July, my friend and I decided to treat ourselves to a nice hotel after a regrettable stay in a different hotel the night before, and the Grass Valley Courtyard Suites hit the spot. We were only able to stay one night because they were booked up for the following days, but we wished we could have stayed longer. The grounds and landscaping were very well kept, and our room had a very homely feel. It seemed basic when we first walked in, but then we kept discovering little extras, such as wireless phone chargers and bathrobes. They also let us drop our luggage off early even though our room wasn't ready so we wouldn't have to leave it on display in our rented SUV while we went on a hike. The property is in the middle of downtown and located within walking distance of several restaurants. My only complaint was that the pillows were a little thicker than I like, but that won't stop me from staying here again the next time I am in Grass Valley. read more

Not enough stars. This place has it all together. Staff was working and it is clean and beautiful. A hidden gold nugget 2 blocks from downtown. Perfect renovated large rooms but the older ones are so beautiful too! Comfortable and antiques. Kitchens in rooms and nice breakfast restaurant near lobby. Wedding venue across the street is fantastic. Outdoor or indoor. Cellar of brick and was an old brewery. So cool! Outside is a lovely treed area w/ outside kitchen and patio and so amazing for weddings Ms. Bebee was so patient for all questions and the tour was complete and professional. All information on renting the venue was no doubt they know what they are doing. This is a non brained on where to go for the special day. And costs are so reasonable. We didn't get to stay here and had to cancel due to an injury our son sustained at a lacrosse game. We called the property to let them know that we were not able to check in and they said that their policy was 3 day cancellation notice unless they were able to occupy the room. We immediately thought that we'd have to eat the reservation. The next day we received a confirmation that our fee had been refunded. It's comforting to know that honest businesses still exist. First time staying here- been to Grass Valley many years. Don't pass this spot!! Not only very nice staff and super helpful with restaurant ideas but the rooms are large, well kept and quiet! This is our second time staying at this hotel. We have never been disappointed. All the people that work here are so nice, when the workers see you walking around they always say hi and ask how you are doing. They serve a great breakfast (omelette/waffles) and they had fresh fruit (blackberries,blueberries, strawberries, etc). Different cereals and breads. Fresh coffee and tea. Also got a massage today from (Sherri?), she was super nice and gave a great massage. It is in a great location, walking distances from downtown. Also, our room was beautifully decorated and had a kitchen with utensils and pots and pans. Definitely will be staying here time and time again. Thanks for a great stay! Love Love Love the staff here. The rooms are lovely and the continental breakfast is the only one I've ever been to where I can actually eat something since I am gluten intolerant. Omelets and fresh fruit etc, not just your average bagel like most places. My husband and I together and separately have stayed here 8 to 10 times now we think. But this last time was above and beyond even their usual niceness. This trip was last minute due to a family tragedy and they accommodated us when the place was basically full. I won't go into all the details but the extra care thoughtfulness and compassion were greatly appreciated. We will be back in a few days and I feel comforted that during this sad time we have a safe haven to stay at. read more

We left the Best Western to come stay over here. The rooms were clean, staff was friendly and helpful, the owner was on site making breakfast and visiting with guests, breakfast and happy hour were awesome!! All of the beds are tempurpedic, which I had never slept on before, but I really enjoyed. This is just a few blocks from downtown so you can walk over, shop, eat at several delicious restaurants...perfect location! I won't stay anywhere else now when I'm visiting up there. To highlight the food, there were so many fresh fruits all cut up for you (melons, berries, kiwi, etc) breads, croissants, yogurt, coffee, tea, juice) and they make the most delicious waffles for you! Happy hour was cheese, crackers, olives, nut mix, chips and salsa, artichoke hearts, wine, tea, lemonade, etc. it was the perfect way to wind down after our busy day!! read more

Nice place for a weekend or weekday getaway in a nice quaint part of California. Both Grass Valley and Nevada City are great areas to visit, shopping and lots of stuff to visit. We were looking for a dog friendly place that was close to town. Our rooms were spotless, large living room and we had the room with a kitchenette, which allowed us to make meals at home. Their continental breakfast included a great assortment of fresh fruit, pastries and other items. This one is on our list to return to. The only down side was getting there, because of the traffic on 80. The spa was perfect with professional staff, can't wait until we schedule another return trip. Nice beautifully manicured grounds, great walking area for the pets, can't ask for a more perfect location and facility. read more

As a business coach and workshop trainer, I host a lot of live events. The day before my workshop, I got a call from the staff stating that there had been a flood in the conference room where I was scheduled to host my workshop. Problem - I needed to relocate my workshop for 15 confirmed attendees. Solution - The staff accommodated me with a suite and comped the room. That's what you call EXCELLENT customer service! The rooms have every amenity: mini bar, refrigerator, REALLY NICE towels, Comfy beds, fresh coffee. Pet Friendly!! GVCS is located on a quiet street but only two blocks to Main Street. But the money shot is their breakfast. Not some also ran "continental" breakfast. Every imaginable breakfast food you would want. AND they make homemade waffles to order and the the most amazing omelet I've ever had. GCSC is like being at home only with a maid, butler and chef. This quaint B&B only reinforced my new-found love for Grass Valley and Nevada City. I've spent considerable time in Sacramento and exploring the gold mining towns of Amador County, but I never knew such a beautiful spot such as Grass Valley existed. When I return, this is absolutely where I will stay. The suited are separated out into two or three buildings with a couple rooms in each. The rooms are spacious, quiet, and best of all have a Temperpedic bed, which is the closest I imagine I'll ever feel to lying on a bed of Care Bears. Near the front is a well-maintained pool and a water fountain. Best of all, they serve a deluxe breakfast by the main office on the weekends for free. Take all this and add a welcoming and attentive staff and you have a recipe for a great business. Keep up the good work, friends. read more

This is a great spot where I took my family. We were upgraded to a suite when a staff member gave us a tough time for wanting them to uphold Covid restrictions, ie: wear masks. The owner was very understanding and made accommodations and spoke to the staff. The other staff members were wonderful and it was a great place for us to stay. read more
