This is a cute little shop in Saginaw with some phenomenal food. There is a counter to order and the chef is usually chatting with customers. There is a limited breakfast and lunch menu and two small tables, appeared there were about 8 seats? They have bread, spices, biscuits, sauces, as well as deli sandwiches to grab as well as hot and ready breakfast biscuits and bowls. Everything tasted amazing but I've only had the breakfast foods. This is a true mom and pop establishment. They are almost always in full blown conversations about their process, craft, or food. It's not meant to be a place you go in a hurry. read more

It's a small venue that is clean, family run, and has a varied menu. The flavors change frequently because Chef Malinda is committed to showcasing only food that is in season. Don't come in here expecting synthetic flavors or short cuts. This is a scratch kitchen at heart, and the proof is in everything they plate. Breakfast sandwiches: I've had the pleasure of trying bacon, sausage, and gravy. Truthfully, you can't go wrong here. A buttermilk biscuit that is perfectly done with fresh fluffy eggs, melted cheese, and protein of choice. That being said, if you're an early bird, get the chicken biscuit. They sell out early, but these are the juiciest and most beautifully seasoned bites of chicken that you'll ever have. To-go meals: I highly recommend the braised beef. Incredibly tender, packed with flavor, so comforting, and a serving size that could easily accommodate two. Finally, let's talk sweets. As someone who burns a significant amount of airline miles for a killer pastry...imagine my surprise when I find the best I've ever had in my backyard? I can't pick a favorite...but I will do my best to describe these jewels, and I challenge you to taste them to see if they live up to the hype. 1. Blueberry biscuit with lemon drizzle on top. This is beautifully balanced. Sweetness from the biscuit and bright lemon drizzle with fresh lemon zest shining through in every bite. 2. Strawberry biscuit offers a more complex bite. You get more aromatics and a fresh strawberry puree on top of that lemon base. This is nothing short of taking a bite out of summer. 3. Cinnamon roll tiramasu is such a unique combination. Aesthestically, it wasn't a stand out, but oh my God, the flavor profile was perfect. A perfect cinnamon roll with a tiramasu topper that delivered the perfect levels of coffee, cream, and sheer joy. To clarify, I don't like cinnamon rolls and I don't love tiramasu, but I adored this. 4. The triple chocolate cake is what puts it over the edge. I've had an endless array of dark chocolate, devil's chocolate, milk chocolate, flourless chocolate, etc, etc, etc,. However, I have never had a cake that comes close to this cake. This cake was like taking bites of velvet pillows that melted into silk. Every bite was moist, fluffy, decadent, and sinfully indulgent. I fear this description won't do it justice, but this was such a smart dessert. You'll first get a touch of salt from the butter, then you taste the sweetness of the cake, but before it's too sweet, you get the rich dark chocolate to temper it out and a bit of espresso to round out those flavors. I feel we have just scratched the surface on what this restaurant has to offer, but I strongly encourage you to meet Malinda, Jon, and Charlie. This degree of skill is rare to see, and I hope the community does everything they can to support this business as they continue to grow. read more

They have meals 2 go, biscuits, bread, jams and spices available. The prices are affordable as well. I love that there's a mom and pop shop nearby and look forward to my next visit. I picked up their roasted asparagus, chocolate chip/toffee cookies, Hawaiian inspired rolls and a blueberry buttermilk biscuit. The blueberry buttermilk biscuit was crunchy, sweet, delicious and dense. Their roasted asparagus is a wonderful and flavorful addition to chicken soup. Nice folks and delish biscuits! Anyone who knows me knows that I love biscuits. The Yelp app suggested this spot to me one morning as I searched for a quick brekkie spot. I stopped by when they had just opened one weekday morning. The bakery display case didn't have any items in it yet, but you could smell the fresh biscuits. I ordered one plain and one blueberry biscuit to go. Both were delish. I really loved that the blueberry biscuit was only lightly sweet and was filled with juicy blueberries. The owners are very nice. The interior is very small, but in a cozy way. The parking area is also small, but there is plenty of nearby street parking. I stopped in this morning. My only regret is I haven't been there before today. First, the customer service is excellent. Jon was very welcoming and friendly. They went out of their way to describe everything. They clearly take pride in their customer service, the food, ingredients, etc. Their chorizo and egg biscuit was 10/10. Thr chorizo is made in-house and is amazing. The biscuits are flavorful. They also sell beef in the freezer section. Very high quality, so I couldn't pass that up. We loved our time at Great Biscuit and Spice! Jon and Malinda make you feel like you're getting a home cooked meal with friends. My husband and I have traveled a bit and enjoy getting to meet locals wherever we go, usually in intimate settings involving meals. This gives me similar vibes, and I don't want any Karen's showing up and expecting big restaurant service. These types of experiences are one of a kind. The food is absolutely amazing. Their brazed beef and butter rice is so good,I could eat nothing but the rice and be happy. The fresh breads are amazing and they have grab and go meals that are so easy to warm at home. Hand made Kimchi and an environment feeling of the Pacific Northwest Im only sad I found it just before moving. Highly recommend and if anyone needs a dentist the one across the street is great!
