I first started going here when they ran a coupon campaign on the back of Safeway receipts. I think I was paying $13. When the coupons ran out, I stayed with it. I've had one or two less than desirable haircuts, but for the most part, I'm happy with the results. What really does it for me is the staff. The manager is very friendly and the few ladies who have been there for years are fun to talk to. If I had the money, I'd be in weekly. I should have read the reviews before going, especially Kelly P's. Regardless, I requested a men's haircut parted in the left. While that is what I received the final result is not to my liking especially the way it was cut around the ears leading to the sideburns where the "barber" removed too much hair showing scalp. I get an okay haircut about 50% of the time. last time the hair dresser missed a huge spot and I didnt notice until after I left. its quick and convenient but I'm pretty sure corporate tells them they have to be done on 20 minutes or something like that. Went here for a while and it was an okay place, pretty cheap for a hair cut. At first, the cuts I got for my side bangs were acceptable and even amazing at times. As time went on all the talented people seemed to leave and I was stuck getting hair cuts that were laughable. My last time there was a woman who insisted on talking to her friend for 10 minutes instead of help the next customer. I felt like a burden when she started cutting, making sure to go as fast as she could. Honestly, a 4 year old could've done better. It was shapeless, had no layers or anything i asked for. I understand you get what you pay for, but if you like to cut hair, why do a poor job and make yourself look bad? Needless to say, I won't be back. read more

But they seem to have had a lot of turnover; and our recent experiences have been unpleasant. Hopefully their customer service will improve. I went in for a simple trim and layers and thought everything was fine when I walked out of the salon. When I got home and straightened my hair, though, I noticed the SUPER uneven layers and how the two sides were very uneven. Super disappointed since Stephany was so nice and I tipped her well. confession | this is a blog post from a few years back, i'm reposting here, because had i known about yelp then, it never would have been a blog. so without further ado, allow me to welcome my words to their rightful home. karma. hair. and my new love for hats. yesterday, yea i think it was yesterday, but it could have been the day before, anyway my girlfriend really really wanted to get her hair cut and drove all over town to find just the right place. she soon found that just the right place, and nearly all other places were closed. so she drove to "great clips" basically the worst hair place in town. they actually have sail boat sails separating the little booths of hair hell inside. its awful. she puts her name in and sits down. within 5 minutes and an old guy flagellating next to her face, she realizes that this is the makings of a terrible hair cut and leaves. so she comes home all frazzled and upset about the close call. but makes an appointment at a real place. all "my lack of compassion" self could do was laugh. i couldn't understand why anyone would think that great clips was a good idea. so i do my best to console her while laughing out loud. well today i was getting tired of the enourmous spike or the shag in my eyes, and wanted it to just get trimmed. at 4 inches it takes a lot of work to get it to stand up, so it usally falls in my eyes by the end of the day. but 3 inches is easy. so just an inch or so, keep it the cool, as my sister calls it "ryan caberea" look. well i go to my wonderful lady at cost cutters next to the safe way. she takes her time and does a great job. but as luck (or karma) would have it, it was closed. I have a terribly busy week at work this week and next so i somehow decided that it was either tonight or 10 days from now. frustrated i make the same drive she had made looking for any place that will cut my hair. finally i pull into the great clips parking lot defeated. I am pretty confident that if is this an establishment based on cutting hair, that they can handle it. Im not looking for the mona lisa here, my hair is all uneven and wild anyways. and for goshs sake, im a guy! how hard is guys hair? they can do it right? wrong. so i wait my 5 minutes and this ragingly masculine woman with a badly died mullet asks me to sit in her chair. I should have ran then. she grunts and utters in a voice that rivals barry whites, "howd ja lik it" so trying to be excited about it, i tell her, i like it wild, rock starish, spikey, crazy, fun. In my head, im thinking if i give her some creative freedom, she will be pleased with my respect for her art, and she will bust out a true masterpiece on my scalp that would rival bon jovi's hair. um yea. im an idiot. she in about 3 minutes of the most awkward and amateur hair cutting fs my head up. the whole time im sitting there i can see out of the corner of my eye, another woman cutting hair in the next torture chamber, looking over the red and yellow canvas sail with a look that is either sheer amazement or utter fear for what ever this woman is doing to my head. after the third or fourth glance over the sail i realize i recoginize the look, i have given it to many of the other bartenders i have worked with, it is the classic "what the hell are you doing?" look. so at this point i know im screwed. not sure how screwed. i can feel and see her doing some wierd things. for instance using the electric clippers on my bangs. (time out, i didn't know i had bangs, but apparently i do now) i can also feel her taking the siscsors and cuting teany tiny chunks of hair right at my hair line. when i question this, she bellows that she is thinning it out. (time out number two, im not sure if there are any other male readers out there, but the last thing we want is for someone to thinning our hairline out, we are all going bald as it is, no need to speed up the process). so she's done and i'm scared to look. and praise jesus its awful. really awful. the hair at the front is not only thinned so you can see my scalp (imagine bad plugs) but is about 1 to 2 inches tall, which my girlfriend so eloquently described, inclines to the back where it stands an original 4 inches high. the sides. razored to my head. so basically its really really ugly. kinda psuedo mullet that starts at my ears. i cannot believe i ended up at the place that i laughed at dianne for going to. so now tomorrow i will be going with dianne to her appointment to see if her hair dresser can fix what mine did. ahhh. i guess i deserve it. read more

Pretty much your worst nightmare - from the moment you see the unstylishly coiffed 50ish grandma wielding scissors to the end of the trim, roughly 7 minutes later...basically she cut lines across the back of my head without blending; had to grow out and then have re-done, but in the meantime looked like I had cut hair myself with no mirrors. read more

I have been going to Great Clips for a while now. At least every other month or so. In the beginning it was a good place to go not much wait time and the stylists were friendly and cared what the customer wanted. BUT in the last few times I have gone it has changed. Before on line check in I would give my phone number and i was in the system. Now they can never find me and they tell me my phone number does not exist. The young lady was on her phone busy TEXTING and acted like i was bothering her. In the past I had a hard time getting the stylist to cut my hair the way i wanted so this time i brought a photo and I showed it to the stylist and she barely looked at it and just started working on my hair. She gave me the impression that she could not care less and she was just board. I barley got a look at the job she did and she was rushing me out of her chair. I went to pay and the young lady was still on her phone. Needless to say I did not leave a tip. I'm on a budget but i am just have to find another place to take my business. read more

LOOK OUT! I tracked down Van (she's at the Raley's shop) after a lot of trouble because I saw a rave review of her work here. Must have been written by a friend. I have had lots of cuts - high end, low end, and in between in my life. I also do NOT like to give a negative review of anything by anyone. But it's been over a week and it doesn't look better; it looks WORSE! She might as well have taken a meat chopper to my hair - and especially to my now-hardly-existent bangs ("At the eyebrow?" she asked. I said yes and she chopped to less than an inch below my hairline). So busy was she talking about what a good, hard worker she was, she must have just spaced out. I'm not a kid but when I look in the mirror I feel a really sinking feeling in my gut. Yep. THAT bad! This is NOT a negative review of Great Clips. I got a very NICE haircut at Montgomery Village from a woman named Genee (not sure of spelling) and would have gone back to her but she was not working that day and I had ttravelled 45 minutes for the haircut. Due to moving around a lot, I've gone to a lot of different hair salons and stylists. In my experience, the likelihood of getting a good or bad haircut is the same regardless of how fancy the place is or how much I pay. I've gotten good and bad haircuts from both expensive and cheap places, including Great Clips. Since I'm risking my hair either way, I'd rather risk it over $16 than $50, which is why I started going to Great Clips regularly even though I'm sometimes the only girl in there. I've actually gotten a lot of really good haircuts at Great Clips - but NOT this one. Would I go into a Great Clips and ask for something really complicated? No. Do I expect them to have basic hair-cutting skills? Yes. I also always try to be really friendly and tip them well, since I've worked in the service industry and I know how it is. I came to this location twice, and each time left with horrible results. I can't speak for men's haircuts, but if you are a female or have daughters, do not come here, because they can't even do trims properly. The first time I came I ended up with a good two-inch difference in length between each side of my hair, which I didn't notice until after leaving the salon because, A) they don't dry your hair when they're done (which doesn't bother me that much except it does make it harder to see the cut), and B) they're in such a rush to get you out of the chair that they don't even give you a chance to look at it (at least at this location). Later when I noticed I was really upset, especially since I was trying to grow it out. I went back and they fixed it for free, but my hair ended up shorter than I wanted and it was annoying to have to go back. My second experience was even worse. I wouldn't have gone back, but the other time when I went back to get it fixed, the stylist who fixed it told me that the girl who cut my hair normally does a great job, etc., so I thought maybe it was just a bad day (big mistake on my part). I had a different stylist this time, but I still ended up with my hair uneven lengths (not nearly as bad as the first time but still noticeable) and weirdly shaped in the back. The worst part though, was that I told her I was trying to grow out my layers, and could she just barely dust them to keep the ends healthy. Instead, she totally chopped them off in some horribly ugly shelf-like way, and ONLY on one side, so my layers on one side are not only unsightly (the worst layering job I've EVER seen, by far, and I've been getting layers for years), but also significantly and very noticeably shorter than the other side. I would have preferred she just told me she didn't know how to layer and I would have been fine with just a trim (except that she did that badly too). Now, after waiting a year and a half and almost having finally grown the layers out, I have another several inches to grow out again (on only one side of course). I complained to the franchise and did end up getting a full refund, but, of course, my hair could not be reattached. Their only redeeming quality is that they fixed my hair the first time and refunded me the second time without much hassle, but ruining my hair is NOT worth it. I will never ever go back here. I would be better off cutting my hair myself with a machete. I honestly don't like to leave such a negative review, but I feel I owe it to other potential customers so they don't get their hair ruined too. Ladies and girls, do not go to this location! Men, I'd be wary too! read more

This was never my favorite place but it worked for me over the past 2-3 years. Most of the women usually had a less than pleasant attitude. But I was able to find one or two women that did a good job on my hair. Unfortunately, that become irrelevant when my online check-in was cancelled and i would have been 5th in line. The woman behind the counter was abrupt and rude and really could not have cared less (it was quickly clear to me that she was the one that cancelled it). Several of the women working that day knew me and said nothing. No way I'll ever go back in there! read more

I have gone to great clips before, when I came to last cut my hair here I wasn't expecting 5 star salon service but something decent at least...the lady that cut my hair had NO EXPERIENCE, I mean NO, nada, zippo...she couldn't even cut bangs right, I had to guide her through the process and she didn't even do it right..at the end I didn't even know why I payed the $16 it wasn't even worth $5!!! I love this place, it doesn't seem to matter who I get to cut my hair they do an excellent job. I get a fade done and have not had much luck before but they are really consistent in their quality. I also like that they save my info so I don't have to explain it to a different person each time. Just went to this great clips after waiting 45 minutes from my online check in. Was waiting to get the same haircut I've got for the last year. An the system had froze an they let someone walk out with out paying for there haircut. I was seated by Lisa who asked me what I wanted I told her an she argued with me telling me that was not what my hair cut was. I explained that yes it was an to look at my notes she says the system down I don't have any notes I asked to wait for the system to come back on to see my notes an she just says while I'll just help someone else then. Wtf I checked in online an waited to get a haircut from the same place I always do the same way I have for over a year worst customer service I have ever got from great clips. Very disappointing experience will never go back to Lisa an will be sure to share this experience with the manger an great clips customer service.
