Chico has a serious customer service issue, and this GHB outlet suffers from it. I have only been to the Forest Avenue location; maybe the other in town is better managed. Here's my beef: The philosophy of Great Harvest Bread Company, as stated on their website, is: "Be loose and fun, bake phenomenal bread, run fast to help customers, create strong exciting bakeries, and give generously to others." At this location, the college girls behind the counter are slow and apathetic, and - worst of all! - they are extremely stingy with the samples! I've been in other GHB stores (not in Chico) where they have an entire loaf of each of the daily breads for you to choose from. You point, and they cheerfully slice off a huge piece, fresh for you. At the Forest Avenue location, the samples are PRE-sliced. This means they get dried out and stale really quickly. Plus, there are only a couple options to choose from. If you're going to give samples, give generously! The more sampling I get to do, the more likely I am to buy MORE. Not just out of a feeling of obligation, but because I've been tempted into an impulse purchase. read more

Every time I go their they get my order wrong, charge me more then should be charged, impolite, customer service is horrible, isn't clean, they don't take phone orders. GO IN AT YOUR OWN RISK. read more

I used to be a weekly bread customer, but the customer service has turned me off. Recently I bought a loaf of potato bread with such overpowering black pepper--it was inedible! My favorite sandwich shop in Chico! The service and selection are in a league of their own. Everything is fresh and tasty. Not many of the sandwich shops in town can say that. You can be as "bad" or as "healthy"as you want with your choices here. Either way you are always good to go. It's one of the few places I've been to in town where you can opt for just a half sandwich and not be treated as though you're inconveniencing someone. Since my last review I have noticed a drastic difference in the service and even the consistency of my food! From a business stand point- it is great that they can accept feedback and make an honest effort to improve (believe me, having managed a similar establishment- I know it can be tough to not take it personal!) it really shows that they value their customers. Probably one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. The entire meal was delicious and without any complaint at all. I had a tuna sandwich on honey wheat bread but I have in the past had their turkey sandwich too. Both are fresh, large (so half might do if you're not really hungry) and the toppings they have available are great. Staff were friendly, I ate at the location just before they stopped serving for the day and I never once felt rushed or unwelcome. They allowed me to take my time, did their end of the day routine and let me be without ever even mentioning they were going to be closing soon. Prices are good and the overall atmosphere is quiet and laid back. I will return most definitely when I am in the area. read more

The food was great and there is a diverse flavor profile available, however the venue is small, and becomes crowded quickly. Also, the time between order and eating is a stretch long during high volume times. The prices were a little steep as i would expect something more remarkable, but all in all, its not bad and would be a great choice for a call in and pick up for lunch during a work day. read more

I just think that if a business is going to be open until 4:30, they should serve all lunch items until then. Apparently after exactly 2:30 on a Saturday you can only order cold sandwiches and loaves of bread, which I just think is silly, especially when I got there at 2:33. The girl at the counter just let me fill out the order form without letting me know, and once I handed it to her she informed me I couldn't have a salad after 2:30. She then proceeded to stare at me like a deer in the headlights when I said that I didn't want anything if I couldn't have a salad. I have no idea what the food is like anymore because it's been years since I ate here, and now I remember the reason why. I was in Chico for a short meeting during my lunch time and remembered driving by this place when I went to lake Almanor a few months ago. I had the turkey cranberry and it was a good sandwich. A little heavy on the cream cheese, but yummy none less. They offered me a piece of bread to snack on while I waited for my sandwich, which was nice. Wish they had the full peets menu. I don't go to Chico often because it's a little far from home, but if I find myself there during lunch time again I might stop back by. read more

Probably the best made bread in Northern California. When visiting relatives in the Chico area, we try to stop buy and purchase 3 or 4 loaves to take home. You will pay more than what you would pay at a grocery store, but worth the price. Sandwiches and bakery selections are pretty good too. No ambiance whatsoever. read more

Great Harvest is so, so good! I stop here for lunch every once in a while and everything I've ever gotten has been great. Their food is super fresh with quality ingredients. One star for the bread, another star for the service. The sandwich as a whole was extremely depressing. For a place that charges $2 more for a sandwich than Safeway and Subway I would expect to get what I pay for. $7.30 for two slices of turkey, a thin slice of cheddar, and two bites of onion...literally. Favorite place in town!! They have the best sandwiches, and salads. Not to mention their salted caramel cookies. I definitely stop by any chance I get. I recommend any of their paninis on their flavored sourdough of the day, can't go wrong. Employees are always friendly and offer you a sample of their delicious breads of the day. read more

The food was below mediocre, the so-called 'amazing' bread all tasted the same and was stale, and the sandwiches were so small I actually asked if they'd forgotten to give me the other half!
