Went last weekend for brunch with a friend and forgot to post. Went back this weekend again because I was craving what he'd gotten all week long. I had the pesto scramble last weekend and my friend had the 222. I got that this weekend with cream cheese added to the scrambled eggs. So yummy! My honey got the beef hash and it was delicious (yes i might have encouraged him order so I could try. got recommended here by a local... so gave it a try. he suggested the Vietnamese coffee, which my gf said was highly acidic, with a borderline burnt bitter taste with sweetened condensed milk added. she asked for something different and got a latte that was quite good. we had planned to get a full plate each but did'nt want to spend $75 on breakfast so we split one entree, the Beef Hash. As many people have commented it was not hash at all, but basically 5 one inch pieces of steak on a pile of potatoes and a small cup of sour cream mixed with way too much horseradish, and NO EGGs, for $20. why eggs, which I ordered and paid $5 extra for werent included is absurd. after trying the horseradish crap that came with it I asked for some salsa which came in a small condiment cup- about 2 teaspoons- which they charged me $1 for. This breakfast with tax came to $35, with tip $40. If we had both had breakfast our bill for an very plain breakfast would have been $80 with me having only water to drink. As for service, the kid who served us seemed nice enuf but walked in and out of the dining room several times but not once made eye contact with us or ever came by to ask if we needed anything. both times we needed him I had to basically stand up and wave my arms for him to notice me . oh, I forgot to mention that my food had a hair in it , which is so common when we eat out now that it barely gets my attention any more. btw my gf liked the rosemary toast read more

Mother's Day breakfast was perfectly Delicious! The family loves this spot in Chico, stating with Mexican coffee and Coco. Unique takes on Mexican and American breakfast, I had the Roast beef Hash. Big chunks of roast beef, so tender and perfect, with rosemary potatoes, and an artisan toast.Blew my socks off! One of my new favorite DDD inspired visits. I always try to have the food that featured on the show as I feel that's what led Food Network there in the first place. While many DDD locations fall a bit short, this is not the case here. The food here was spectacular. We tried the Dragon potatoes and their house made cinnamon bread French toast. The Dragon potatoes were full of great flavors especially when combined with other items on the plate. You could almost scramble them all together and call it The Mess of Cortez. A nice piece of toast and this a meal for the day. The portions size was very shareable. The highlight was the French Toast. This was hands down the best French toast I've ever eaten. The flavors explode without being overwhelming. The bread was firm and not made soggy by the egg wash as is usually the case with French toast. Although firm, it was easily cut with just the edge of the your fork. While I did put a little maple syrup on the toast, it was not necessary. The Strawberry and raspberry puree lining the plate was all of the sweetness I needed. It was so good I asked for a little more, just because. This is a very cozy and welcoming restaurant with helpful friendly staff. One word of warning is they only take cash. I'm usually ready for this, as I find this more and more because credit card fees are outrageous and I'd rather pay cash than a 2-4% surcharge. BE PREPARED! First, the food was okay. I ordered the papas loco and I had only maybe four bites of potato, everything else was the toppings. They also charged $1 for salsa on the side. My husband had two pieces of bacon on his plate, after eating one the second one broke his tooth... Come to the bill, they do not accept card for dine ins?? I don't understand why. Why do they serve hot coffee in water glasses? Coffee cups are made to keep your hands from burning. Instead, this establishment wraps a paper napkin around a glass and serves hot coffee that way. Also, they do not have spoons. ??? The food is great and the service is also. read more

went to have a birthday brunch for my mom this morning and we waited patiently when told it would be a few mins. As we waited and see people after us arrive less than our party of 4 get seated and then being kept told 5-10 more mins my the hostess. we decided to have our name crossed off the list. as we leave the hostess says we will have you seated before anywhere else can, and we said no thank you nicely and she retaliated with well I hope you have a nice horrible breakfast elsewhere. I had the dragon potatoes. Potatoes and beans were on point and delicious, I cannot say the same about the carnitas. Came here for brunch while visiting with a friend and they suggested this spot. There's lots of parking and from the outside the place did not look super busy but stepping inside almost all spots were full! We were sat quickly and took a few minutes to look over the menu. I ordered the breakfast sandwich. The bread was crispy and airy and the avocado and bacon were delicious. We loved the potatoes and how crunchy they were. Overall, I really enjoyed our meal and the restaurant was clean. I thought it was so cute that they sold their own t-shirts and mugs. read more

Came here on my day trip to Chico. Ordered the beef hash. This was...barely a hash plate. Almost always hash indicates beef that has been long and slow cooked, is very tender. These were just chunks of well done steak, tough to chew, not a beef hash by most people's standards. The other thing is a hash plate almost ALWAYS comes with eggs. I had to pay six extra dollars just to get two eggs on my hash plate. With a latte my bill ended up being $33, with tip I basically just spent $40 on a submediocre breakfast. Portion was decent at best too, not generous. The coffee was good/fine and the servers were very friendly so I want to at least acknowledge the kindness and professionalism of the staff. But the food experience was disappointing and definitely overpriced for what it was. I could have (and should have) eaten at Black Bear Diner, a chain, and gotten twice the amount of food for literally half the price. read more

Came here Saturday morning with my boyfriend and his mom and it was busy, but we had the option to sit at the bar which sits 5 people. There is a parking lot, drive thru, and they only accept cash. Service was friendly! We ordered the Carnitas Quesadilla, French Toast, and 2+2+2(not pictured). Also got cafe con chocolate which was a hot drink served in a glass cup, house coffee, and iced coffee. My boyfriend and his mom have been here before but it was my first time. The food and drinks were really good, but the prices were pretty high. $3.50 for black coffee seems too much to me. I did enjoy the Cafe Con Chocolate tho and would order it again. Overall not sure if I'd come back for breakfast because I'm more of a chicken fried steak orderer, but if you're in the mood for French toast or pancakes, then this is your place! read more

OK, I'm gonna lay it out straight. I hope the management reads this. First, the food here is exceptional. No matter what you order, it's probably gonna be good. The folks in the kitchen who are serving this up do a high-quality job and are very aware of how food should look like when it's served. Second, the help here is generally fun and highly attentive. We always have great customer service. third, and this is where it gets more difficult. Sin of Cortez is not a clean restaurant. it pains me to say this because we love bringing people here and we live about three blocks away. But we are gonna have to change our go to breakfast place when we bring guests into town because it's just become dirtier and dirtier. When you enter, the front windows are coated in fingerprints and smudges. The floor all around the entryway is messy with pieces of litter and other sorts of things. But it's also a deep in grime in the flooring that you generally see in an old Chinese restaurant. The blinds throughout the restaurant have fingerprints all over them and haven't been clean in years. The trim has dust from years. there's a speaker up near the ceiling that has a coat of grimy dust on it that is so thick and disgusting that we almost left. bathrooms, dirty. Paint needs a refresh. And the whole entryway looks like it was set up for Covid and never put back Sorry guys. Management needs to know this. It's really become gross. It's fine to be the best tasting and most expensive restaurant in town. but you can only ride on your former glory for so long. If the owners and management aren't interested in keeping the place up, sell it while it still has a good name so that someone with fresh energy who is willing to put the time into presenting a beautiful and clean restaurant can take over. But I ordered roast beef hash, and the server immediately asked me if I wanted eggs, and I sort of assumed she was double checking or something, bc what kind of breakfast hash that's almost $20 doesn't come with eggs? I said yes, my food came with two eggs. I wish she'd mentioned she was asking if I wanted to pay for a $6 add on for said eggs- that price for two eggs feels insane. It's my fault for not noticing there weren't eggs on the dish based on the menu, but she should've been honest with me, it felt like I got tricked into spending more money. The hash was again, delicious, but came with like 5 bites of tough beef, was not worth the price to me. The cash only part was a little surprise for me, never been to a sit down place that expects you to bring cash or pay a fee to use their ATM. I hit up this place with my brother because it's one-of this favorite breakfast/brunch spots in town. It did not disappoint. We had great food and good service! I started off with one of their delicious coffee drinks the Cafe Con Chocolate which is coffee with Mexican Chocolate, Homemade whipped cream, chocolate shavings and a chocolate swirl. The best part was the whipped cream. Holy moly! It was delicious - so thick and creamy. For breakfast I had thee dragon potatoes which consisted of carnitas, rosemary potatoes, black beans, jack cheese, jalapenos, sour cream, an avocado sauce, and tomatoes. Our servers were friendly and even indulged us in a convo about how to make art in coffee foam. We got the peach pancake special which was tasty but would have liked more of the fresh peach purée for it. We also had the breakfast tamales with beans and eggs.
