This was nice brunch surprise that was really tasty!! We were seated outside, where the San Diego weather was really nice! Our server was attentive and brunch was spot on!! So good here!! I have NEVER had bacon on a donut before, so this was a first and as a signature choice here, it was surprisingly DELISH!! Everything was cooked to perfection. This was my first time having poached eggs and let me tell you, I AM A FAN now!!! I def recommend checking this spot out when in San Diego!!
We got lucky with parking this morning just before 9am. They seated us right away since we there were only two of us. The service was exceptional and one point during Sunday brunch . The portions were ginormous and I could complain about the 25-30$ price tag on most of the menu items. Everything tasted delicious and my wife loved the ginger lime mimosa
Very cool place for brunch! Great food! Must try the maple bacon donuts! Staff were friendly and calm even though the restaurant was busy. We went on a Monday and it was packed! Can't even imagine what this place is like on the weekends! Fresh ingredients, and food came out pretty quickly. Finding parking can be a challenge especially with the surrounding community under construction but if you pack your patience to find parking the food here will be the reward! Restaurant was bright and simple deco but seemed a bit cramped. We were seated fairly close to the kitchen area but also next to the main walking aisle. Sitting somewhere different may have provided a different feel. Would definitely try this place again!
A cool brunch/lunch spot! Parking can be a little tricky, so I'd recommend carpooling if you're going with a bigger group. We went on a weekday and didn't have to wait, but I'm not sure how busy weekends get. The service was friendly and the food came out quickly. The vegan hash had amazing flavor -- I especially loved the sweet potatoes and mushrooms. The maple bacon donuts were good too, but definitely very rich. I couldn't finish one myself, so I'd recommend sharing them with a few people. Overall, the food was really good. A little pricey, but honestly what isn't these days?
We brought my husband for Father's Day and it was such a dad place to be! The portions on the French toast, pancakes, and table side beignets were massive! We ordered one ordered of the French toast logs on their own, one order of the French toast logs with fried chicken, the banana pancakes with peanut butter, and fried banana, and one American breakfast. For drinks we had the mimosa flight, and a hot latte. The service was great out on the patio and the ambiance was lovely. Brendyn was a great server and so kind. I appreciated the fountain behind us and that it's dog friendly though we didn't bring ours.
After passing by this spot countless times, I finally made it in and overall, it was a solid experience with a few things worth noting. First off, the location is right in the heart of Hillcrest near the DMV, so it's definitely a busy area. There IS parking, but fair warning.... the spaces are tight. There's only one way in and one way out, which gets pretty congested. With it being such a popular breakfast spot, there were a lot of people (including families) waiting outside, and it felt crowded. A larger or more organized waiting area would really improve the experience. That said, once we got inside, things definitely picked up. The host was kind and got us seated pretty quickly, which I appreciated. The interior design is beautiful very spacious, airy, and thoughtfully put together. Each table had a small flower vase (looked real!), which added a really nice touch. Service-wise, Edgar took great care of us. He was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, which always makes a difference. For food, we ordered the steak with truffle fries and the French toast. The steak was requested medium but came out more well done than wanted. The truffle fries were really good, though. The French toast portion is HUGE definitely shareable. Personally, I would've preferred the syrup on the side because the bottom layer was pretty soaked, which gave it more of an eggy texture. That said, the bacon and blueberries paired really well and balanced it out nicely. Drinks were a bit of a mixed bag. The mimosas leaned heavily on the orange juice...more than I expected served in a more casual glass than I would've liked for the vibe of the place. I also tried the house coffee, which unfortunately didn't hit for me. Overall: beautiful space, great service from Edgar, and decent food with a few execution tweaks needed. I'd come back, but probably with adjusted expectations (and maybe park a block away next time)
Food was excellent.. everything came out hot and fresh tasting... service was good and server up sold some breakfast items didn't Catch her name but she did well if the owner reads this exactly what you want.. the place is old fashioned but modern inside. The food is amazing the French toast is to die for. Bring an appetite.
What a pleasant surprise this was. We were sat really quickly and my eyes went all over the menu. I quickly ordered the Caesar of Spain and Pistachio Brie to start. The salad was intensely amazing and packed with flavor. The Brie and chutney.... Holy cow. I could have sat there and eaten a whole wheel. For entrees we ordered the prime rib and buttermilk fried chicken. The mashed potatoes....... Ugh. What a dream. I love old fashioned mashed potatoes that are still chunky! Perfectly flavored. The buttermilk chicken was insanely good. The waitress let me know I could substitute the thigh with a breast. So i ordered two breasts. They were so good and so moist. I can't stand dry chicken and this was nothing near. The donuts were huge and unexpected. They reminded me of fair food. When i bit into mine it felt super doughy and uncooked (i understand it was cooked thoroughly and this is just the texture of deep fried dough). It was heavy and dense. I had two bites and had to tap out. We took these home and ate these over the course of a two days. Quite a bit. As an overall complaint.. I'm not really for dog owners bringing their dogs INTO restaurants. As I understand the CDPH policies against non-service dogs in food facilities... i was surprised to be sat next to someone who had their dog on the booth bench and was feeding the dog from the table/plate. I've never seen a service dog doing that... I noticed a few employees stare at the dog eating on the bench and table and not say anything. Kinda gross. But I'll just have to keep that consideration in the future.
Been here twice and liked my second time around a lot better! I can see why they have a Michelin star and it's well deserved. I ordered the Scrambled Eggs with Zucchini and potatoes. It was really good and great taste. The busboy was so kind and funny when taking the things away. Service was very good and helpful. Place is loud but because it fills up fast but it's a great place to have a great time.
First time visiting for dinner. We started with the pistachio baked brie which was pretty good. I ordered the prime rib since the waiter raved about it, and I do like prime rib, but it's so hard to find a good one. This place wasn't the exception. I was super disappointed in the prime rib. It was super firm and tough to cut despite it's beautiful presentation. The mashed potatoes and asparagus paired perfectly with the meat too. The gravy was also really good! Too bad the cut was poor. I was excited when I saw it too because it was a huge piece of prime rib. Oh well! My husband thought the burger was good but nothing special. Service was okay. No one came over to offer refills on our drinks until we basically got our check. The gentleman working the host stand was pleasant. Overall, the food and experience was average at best.
Y'all... this place is WORTH THE HYPE 100%. I went on a Sunday morning with some friends and put our name in for four. We had time to walk and grab a coffee down the street and come back before our name was called. Once seated, we ordered the maple bacon donuts for the table. Dare I say a MUST have! I usually don't love maple flavored foods, but these donuts got eaten quickly. I then got the picnic brunch because I was in a snack mood and it was so amazing to just graze on some high quality bread, cheese, grapes, and jam. My friends were also raving about their orders. The decor was cute, light, bright, and I can't wait to bring out of towners here soon!
Great is great and Great Maple is close to it in my book. Great seating indoors or out. Great service from the moment you walk in, til the moment you walk out very full and happy. We got a recommendation here and I honestly remember this place from years ago being just as busy, but now even busier and why I hadn't got to try. But fate and the power of the most important weekend meal of the day, brunch brought us in. I knew I was gonna go for the Vegan Hash, but just before strolling over from some window shopping on Park Blvd, we got a food recommendation for Great Maple's French Toast Logs. Left that all to bae as it's smoked bacon syrup, brioche style cut and battered "fire logs", topped with fresh mountain blueberries + powdered sugar... He ate as much as he could, loved it but couldn't finish it. It's definitely a meal for two. Being the the plant-based foodie of the two of us I can say my, cilantro, charred kale, cinnamon glazed sweet potatoes, fresh avocado, garlic, harissa, mushrooms, onion, tomato, and yukon potatoes via the Vegan Hash was soooo delicious. I added a little hot sauce, ketchup and pepper to get it some more heat. And feel like love with this dish. I do wish they had more clear cut plant-based options in 2026, but always grateful for what I can enjoy, not to mention or server. Pretty sure things like the Kale & Quinoa Salad or Great Maple House Salad can be made dairy free, like their S.D. Eggplant Sandwich. Good beverage options, from Bloody Mary's to Daiquiris to Margaritas and all your juice, coffee, soft drink, tea and water needs. Located on Washington Street with their on lot, encompassed by a unique set of intersections and the streets Cleveland Avenue and Lincoln Avenue. Open from 8AM to 2PM Monday through Friday, til 230PM Saturday and Sunday with dinner hours Friday as well as Saturday only, 5PM til 9PM. Reservation encouraged.

Second time here. I absolutely love it. Parking is horrible. It is a dumpster fire nightmare. Highly recommend the portobello fries. They're still good reheated in an air fryer too. The polenta was delicious. It's not pictured. Added brisket and it was super tender and very flavorful. A little on the high end for prices but it really is worth it. This place wasn't bad at all--in fact, it was good. I However, I found it a bit overrated and overpriced. The only thing I absolutely loved was the maple doughnut, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit again. The lines are way too long and the parking is a bit hard. Bathrooms can be cleaner as well. read more

Went to Great Maple yesterday and wow, we had some delicious meals. They were so good. I'm pretty sure I had the zucchini melt It was so flavorful and light. I changed my eggs to be scrambled but it comes with poached eggs I believe. My friend had the Smoked Bacon Scramble Melt. He liked it but wasn't overly impressed. He substituted some things in the dish. His main takeaway was that he was expecting bacon pieces but it turned out to be bacon strips which made it less convenient to eat. We also ordered the French Apple Pancakes which I believe might be seasonal. The picture I took shows it being half gone cause I forgot to take the picture before we ate them. We almost didn't get them for some reason. Not sure if the waiter forgot or the kitchen forgot but we eventually got them. I am so glad we did cause they were the best thing we ate there in my opinion. I just looked at door dash and they don't have them on there so I'd have to call in an order or go in store again. You can make reservations on Open Table and I would suggest you do that. It was packed on Saturday morning at 11am. I'm not going to lie, the flies were getting on my last nerves. We sat inside so we could avoid them but I think because of where we were seating, the flies were doing too much. My friend ended up leaving his leftovers because a fly landed in them. I hurried up and ask for a box so I could protect mine. The server was super nice and patient. I have dietary restrictions so I took some time with the menu. He was up for giving me more time but I was ready to eat. I would definitely go back just for the pancakes but order to go so I can eat them at home. read more

Made reservations for Sunday brunch with friends. Parking is a bit tight, with a small lot in front of the restaurant and some street parking. Best to make a reservation because as we left around 11:30 there were a lot of people waiting for the walk-in tables. Food was great with LARGE portions. I ordered the chilaquiles and had the maple donuts to share. The chilaquiles were great with pork chorizo mixed in with the egg. The maple donuts were filling and soft. One donut was more than enough for me. The inside of the restaurant is a bit tight. We were seating in a booth but I noticed people passing by close to the edge of the table. Add this to the fact that the restaurant was full and it was really busy. read more
Love this place! We come often. Never let us down! Portions are huge! I love that you can order off both menus. Parking gets awful on weekends. You may have to drive around a bit. Indoor and outdoor seating. There was nothing we didn't like. The AC was not working well when we went last weekend I hope they fixed it. Loved the polenta! Loved the French toast! Loved the avocado toast, loved the French dip! The donuts are a must to share as a starter. We started with 6 of us and there was still half a donut left. The chicken sandwich needed a bit more flavor. It needed a kick. The servers felt a bit slammed. They are nice just overworked a couple of times we were waiting. Ranch dressing is good. Great variety of drinks is great! No one got the chilaquiles this time but those are always a hit! read more
Came on a Sunday morning around 10:30AM. We were half an hour early to our reservation but they were still able to seat us right away. Parking lot is small and was full so I would recommend trying to find parking in the neighborhood around it or just Lyft over. Everything we ordered was great and had large portions. I think it was worth the price for sure! The Maple Bacon Doughnuts came out first, with a generous fresh coating of the maple bacon glaze. Best way to start brunch haha. My wife really loved the sausage that came in the Pigs in a Blanket and the House Smoked Brisket Hash had generous amounts of both bacon and brisket! I lived in San Diego for so long and it wasn't until almost 9 years of moving away did I finally get to experience Great Maple! First, parking is insane!!! It's located on a corner with a small lot surrounded by main streets. So parking is not easy, especially on a Sunday during brunch. Love that you can easily make reservations through Open Table - totally recommend! We were seated right away for our 12pm reservation. The food was delicious! It's a lot, but it was so good! The mimosa flight seasonal flavors were also just as good! Plenty of umbrellas on the patio to shield you from the sun and amazing service, including staff readily willing to move umbrellas around to share the shade with as many people as possible. Everyone in our group loved their meals and the flavor! It's a small menu, but sometimes it's better to have less options if the food is perfected! read more

Fair warning: Sunday's are not the day to go! The hillcrest farmers market takes up ALL parking and it is impossible to find anything available. There is a lot of indoor and outdoor seating but I was not a fan that indoor was super loud and hard to hear our group speaking. All the food were great portions and beautifully presented. I loved my polenta and mushrooms dish and my latte. Very cute but maybe try to sit outside if you want to talk. read more

On our way back to LA on a Monday morning decided to stop by this place and let me tell you it did not disappoint. Ambiance is Christmas meets old diner with an elegant feel. Food was amazing (smoked brisket and the beignets) and the service was great! Definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a new spot to try. read more

One of our all time favorite restaurant in San Diego. Josh our waiter and Leslie the GM always make us feel at home whenever we dine there. Great food, inviting atmosphere, incredible staff and worth the price you pay. But definitely make a reservation. Places like Great Maple don't receive 5 reviews for nothing. read more
We recently had breakfast at Great Maple, and it was a fantastic experience. I went with the French Toast Logs, which were enormous. easily enough to serve four people. My wife had a frittata, and it was really good. The service was excellent, especially considering we had a huge party. The staff made sure everyone was well taken care of. We came to Great Maple after hearing rave reviews - and it absolutely lived up to the hype. The smoked beef brisket hash is out of control. It's nice to enjoy a calmer brunch service on a weekday and super convenient to be able to reserve ahead of time. Staff were warm and attentive, and we were served pretty quickly. I was skeptical at portion size when I first saw the zucchini scramble, but it was filling and really flavorful. My partner rarely leaves food on a plate, but even the brisket hash bested him - truly quality and quantity. The booths ate comfortable, and it's nice to have indoor and outdoor seating - seems good for groups and families, too. We'll definitely be back our next SD trip! read more
Great casual diner that I've been to a couple times for breakfast/brunch while visiting San Diego. This place is supersized comfort food - should be a food challenge, I always leave with leftovers. Great Maple is the perfect name with breakfast choices featuring maple. Every time it's an order of maple bacon donuts (fresh made to order). Their French toast logs are gigantic a table could share. They have other traditional offerings like scrambles and hash. Nice list of craft cocktails too. Their staff has been friendly and attentive both times even on a busy weekend, checking in and warming up coffee. Small parking lot, so weekends you'll probably have to park on a side street. They take reservations- I highly recommend booking them. It's a fun place to go. read more

This place is so good!! Their portions are pretty big so it will make you full!! You have to try their maple donuts! They are chewy and not airy. The service was pretty good as well. We love this place !!! It's very special and we love your latte's BUT For the love of God, please use a mug for your latte container AND NOT a cold beverage glass. My wife had to wait 15 minutes before she could even touch it to drink it. See picture. read more
Yelp hasn't listened to reviewers and given us the option for 1/2 stars, so a 3 it is. The 3 is based on the total experience: wait time, ambiance, and food. Wait time was longer than estimated, but it was curious that the moment we inquired we were offered a table. Suspect. Ambiance took a hit bc it was so loud we could not talk with our companions. They are the reason we were in San Diego, so this also detracted. Now, the food is good and servings are massive. An order of French toast logs (yes logs) serves a table of four. The squash blossom with squash was eh. Under seasoned and underwhelming. The special omelette was too cheesy, blanketing the vegetables the omelette highlighted. And finally, the chicken sandwich as good, but fried too long and dry. GM is a neighborhood restaurant that wants to be trendy and upscale, but it's not there. My wife n i visited the farmer's market down the street (fkn Amazing btw) n she recommended this place to me (I'm from north county) that I've never been in, n man was i impressed the food was cooked perfectly, the spice/herb topping on the potatoes was amazing, the hostess sat us down immediately, the service was like a family member or friends taking care of us, never had to really ask for anything, attentive n never far away, sum of the best service I've ever had the pleasure to experience, it's a cozy lil place with cool stuff all over, decor fit perfectly to the area, people, food, atmosphere very very well put together.... can't wait to go again, would recommend 10/10... read more

Was in town to visit my kids.My daughter insisted that we go here. It's also close to the Hillcrest Farmers market. I glad that she made reservations,as there was a huge line. But no matter where you go for brunch in San Diego it's going to be crowded. I had looked online for the menu and all the food looked great. We started with the French toast log for the table. Four huge slices of toast covered in maple syrup and bacon. We had to ask for more butter.(1 Little Ball of butter for 4 slices of toast).I noticed that the flow of people coming and going was great. You could see the line moved quickly. Our waitress was super helpful, coming back to check on us , getting more drinks. I know that she was super busy,so I appreciate her extra effort. read more

This is a really popular spot in SD and has been a staple for years. Come early or call to check on the wait as sometimes it can be hours. The service is friendly and they do a good job considering how busy they are all the time. The menu has a wide variety of options, but I mainly stick to the breakfast items. The French toast is probably the most popular, and I would definitely recommend it. It is a large portion that is great for sharing. Anything else I get has to include some bacon as they do bacon right, and it is always crispy and delicious. I'll definitely find myself back here with friends in the near future! read more

Came here for a girls brunch. We all arrived starving and ended up leaving with leftovers. The pigs in a blanket was, no joke, over a foot long! I ordered the smoked beef brisket hash and it was amazing! Their drinks were also great! I got the honey mule and it came in this adorable bear cup. read more
Came to Great Maple initially for Restaurant Week, but after checking out the regular menu, we decided to order from there instead--and I'm so glad we did! First of all, our waitress was amazing. She was incredibly friendly, gave us the full rundown of the menu, and even pointed out some great recommendations. I started with the White Peach Bellini Mimosa, and as a big peach fan, this was the perfect start to the meal. Light, refreshing, and just the right amount of sweetness. After watching some of the dishes go by to other tables (and chatting with our waitress), we quickly realized that the portions here are HUGE--definitely bring an appetite! We decided to share a dish and went with the House Smoked Brisket Hash. It was a great choice--a massive portion with tender, flavorful brisket and perfectly cooked potatoes. Everything was well-seasoned and came together beautifully. Overall, this was a fantastic meal, and I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. In short: Great place! Super fast service! Nice waiter Amazing food! I would go back anytime My friend recommended this place and I'm so glad she did! It was definitely the best breakfast we had in San Diego on our 3 day trip. First off our waiter was great and explained the menu and let me know when I ordered his favorite stuff, yay! Always a good sign. The food came out so fast! Like 5 min? Plates looked beautiful! I had the chorizo scramble melt which was delicious! It came with a large slice of fresh ciabatta bread with the perfect texture, soft with a crunch when you bite into it. It also came with possible the best Rosemary breakfast potatoes I've ever had- perfectly seasoned and had enough salt! Yay lol, and fruit garnish. My boyfriend had the smoked brisket hash and he loved it. It contained a nicely smoked brisket, bacon, Yukon potatoes, onions, tomatoes, kale, eggs with a red pepper sauce on top and a slice of that amazing ciabatta bread. We tried a classic mimosa and the caramelized pineapple mimosa, which was our waiters favorite. He let us know they have a heavy pour. So if you like champagne give them a shot! If you are coming here for breakfast or brunch make sure to come hungry because these dishes are huge! We love walking over to this spot for brunch on the weekends but it does get busy. Sometimes we can snag a last minute reservation if it is later in the morning especially if it is just for 2 people. Everytime we go we have to indulge in one of their brunch cocktails because they are always super good and sometimes they even have some seasonal inspired drinks and menu items as well that are always worth trying. This time around I had to finally order the french toast that comes with blueberries and bacon and holy cow this was probably the best french toast I have ever had! I had plenty of leftovers and they were still so good, it will definitely be something that I order again in the future. read more

The Great - Maple Doughnuts The Good - The Food The Bad - They don't really update much on their menu over the years The Ugly - NA I do enjoy the food at the Great Maple, but changes rarely happen, so things are same-ol-same-ol. I've came here many times and each time the food never disappoints me. The waitress checked up on us multiple time to see if we were okay which is nice. The seats outside have heat lamps and there is also indoor seating but there is a longer wait to be seated. Only issue is that the bathrooms always have a line to get in. read more
We ended up dining on the outside patio. The interior is decorated very nicely. I'll be back to try the Mimosa flight. There was a wait to be seated, but we went during prime brunch time. We ended up getting seated after 35 minutes. We ordered the Chilaquiles and the breakfast toast. Both of which were yummy. For drinks, my sister ordered the mocha and I had the elderflower guava mimosa. I always love places that have different mimosas outside of the usual so that was a plus. This is located in Hillcrest, which is centrally located. I would highly recommend coming here List of items to order where extensive. We also ended up having the churro donuts which were absolutely delicious and enough or more than enough rather for two. read more

Yes, they do, I was able to make some through opentable.
Do they cater to gluten free patrons? By using a "GF" or similar symbol on their menu? Thank you in advance! 😊
Unfortunately while their food is very yummy they are not particularly gluten free friendly. No indications on menus, no GF bread etc.
Did you use a spicy tequila in your margarita that came with a shot of poblano liquor. That was such a good margarita?
Oh yes, it was delicious
Do they serve all day breakfast?
Unfortunately No. They serve breakfast in the morning till certain hours. I do know that it can be as late as noon but I don't think their menu allows for breakfast anytime after that.
Do they have a happy hour ? And what are the happy hour specials?
The website says they have a happy hour from 5-6pm....with small bites too
Do they have a parking lot?
Yes, they do but it is small. Make sure you time your visit otherwise you will have to circle the neighborhood looking for street parking.
