I have tasted almost every Mexican food places in Long Beach just this place was left alone, so there is no way I am going to miss it. With a big hope entered this place. I'm surprised I haven't reviewed Great Mex!! I've eaten here dozens of times. Their crunchy beef tacos have to be some of the best in the city. Pair that with fire toasted salsa and chefs kiss. My rating is based solely off of $1 taco Tues/Fri. Authentic Mexican food for a great value twice in a week. I usually just order the chicken or carne asada soft tacos, so nothing fancy. Casa Sanchez locations were always rundown, so no surprise there. Unfortunately, this being Long Beach means that the place was crawling with homeless. Sadly, Long Beach is one of the homes of the homeless in California. Still, the staff were very friendly and the food was as I remembered it. I can't help but to think their recipes could lend themselves to a more conventional restaraunt and dining experience.

For my mains, I chose a chicken tamale and a cheese enchilada. This slapped so hard. The tamale had a v good filling to masa ratio and wasn't dry whatsoever. I also thought the cheese enchilada was delish - good cheese pull and the sauce was saucing. I will admit the service was spotty the night we dined in and it took quite awhile for the food to come out. And I'm not one to be whatever about a wine pour, but let me tell you, my wine pour was miserly. The front patio is a bit tight though perfect for people watching. They have an enormous back patio if you're dining with a large group. I like Super Mex and location is a pretty good one.

A guy greeted me at the door, nice surprise and Evelyn at the bar handled me with Chips, salsa, beers and a menu...right after she cleaned the bar space in front of me. While this may sound normal to some of you, I find this RARELY HAPPENS. I go out a lot so I feel like I know the new norm of minimal service. This place does it right! Ordered Carnitas and the grilled fish plate. Both were excellent and a very fair portion, great value. I will definitely return because these folks are caring and capable...and in a service industry that skimps on service, that means something!
