Banging California burrito, been meaning to try this spot and it didn't disappoint. You can choose any meat, I chose asada. Everything about the burrito was delicious: stretchy warm tortilla, large portion, crisply flavorful fries, stretchy melty cheese, well done flavorful meat. The green sauce on the side went well with it. I love a burrito that's so good it make you want to take a pic to show it off and it seems like that's what everyone else did because it's good. Was recommended this one on yelp and it did not disappoint. Phone ordered my burrito and when he told me the price, my first thought was, did he say $10 for a asada burrito haha OK let's give it a go. A few months ago I went specifically looking around on yelp to see if there were any hidden gem type places near me, places I haven't heard much about but that have high marks, and this was one of the places I found. Put it on my list, and finally had an excuse earlier this weekend (new beer at Trademark, but a food truck I didn't care for that day) - I hope Trademark is getting them good business, cause it's a block away, Trademark lets you bring outside food in, and Mexican food goes great with beer. So anyway, I got the $7 California burrito and took it to Trademark. I will say, I definitely felt immediately like I was back in Mexico City - mostly because the person manning the cash register at the time didn't speak any English, to give an idea of the sort of place this is (he had to grab someone from the back to answer my question about what was in the California burrito). it's not the sort of place I would necessarily feel like hanging out (though they do have seating)... it's not *dirty* or anything, but did feel a bit dingy, plus while I was waiting, a homeless person walked in and started begging (she looked like she really needed help, so that $7 burrito turned into $9 in a sense, but it was sort of awkward, normally restaurants strongly discourage that sort of thing inside their restaurant.) So yeah - probably exactly the sort of Mexican hole in the wall you're expecting. Anyway, in my experience, places like that do tend to either be extremely mediocre, or fantastic, and I'm happy to report this is one of the great ones. Burrito was great - great cheese, great fries, great guac, totally reasonable price (it will fill you up!), and the carnitas, while more flaky than shredded, did still have nice porky flavor, and 100% actual meat, zero fatty gristle! I'd give the carnitas a 4 out of 5, but the burrito as a whole was a solid 5. It also came with your choice of salsas - I asked if I could try one of each of them, which they were happy to let me. I will definitely continue doing that - they had one tomatillo salsa that was all green and no heat, one red one with some heat and nice smoke, and one green one that was just the right kick to be properly spicy without being overpowering, so of course, I just mixed them all together for one super-salsa. :D I'll probably be here semi-regularly with their proximity to Trademark and with how good a pairing that is - honestly, they have a whole menu of standard California-Mexican food, but I'm not sure I'd ever get anything other than a California burrito, it just goes too well with beer. (Just with a different meat each time.) p.s. Some older reviews are saying they charge a dollar to use a card - that is no longer true. They do still charge to use a card, but only 3.5% of your bill, which on one burrito, was like 25 cents. read more

I wouldn't mind the location or the prison like ambiance if the food was referee official but it was about as mediocre as the seasonal McDonalds mcribs. This is a well known spot for great tacos, tortas, nachos, and burritos. It's been around since I was small and honestly it's never disappointed when you want just a good carne asada taco! They are not stingy with their salsas or pickled carrots/chiles. My church is on the other side of the block and I've been having their food EVERY SUNDAY for about 3 years. Not only have I never gotten tired of any of their food, but I have zero complaints. Their customer service is great, they're very friendly and attentive. I can recommend their burritos, super burritos, California burritos, super nachos, and tortas. Those are my go-to. But their sopes, wet burritos, and quesadillas are always good too. I like all three of their salsas, and we know how important that is for Mexican food! I've come here for lengua tacos & their asada super burrito since I was a little girl but I've been craving a Chile relleno so bad lately. I came here for lunch today & realized they serve them here so I stepped out of my comfort zone & ordered it. A few days ago I ordered from here through Postmates, and merchant got order wrong and was overcharged. I decided to come in today and give an accurate review. This time I ordered the taquitos combo order; includes rice and beans. I also ordered two tacos and an hibiscus agua. Besides the $1.00 transaction fee for debit/credit card, as I had not enough cash on me for order, I am giving it a 3 stars. Staff was friendly, food right this time, and quality of meat again was great. Where do I start? I do deliveries for Grubhub, Doordash and Postmates...I had a delivery back in April 2017 for this place and seen the drop off was by the LB Airport...I figured I try it out since somebody wants this food across the city... Keep a open mind because it's not the best location or dine-in option...That's as far as looks but the food is beyond amazing...The carne asada is the best in Long Beach, hands down...The family who runs this place is always friendly...All those mad at the $1 card fee, all prices include tax...Be mad at other things instead and start carrying cash... I was expecting authentic Mexican and was so disappointed. I had the California Burrito and Carne Asada Fries. Which I know neither is authentic mexican, but you know the favors are the same. The burrito was very bland and didn't have much favor. The meat was seasoned well, but that was about it. Needed more cheese and there was no guacamole. How is it a California Burrito without avocados? The fries were a little better than the burrito, but still not great. It was the opposite of the burrito though in the sense that everything was piled on and there was just too much going on. Sometimes less is more...
