There is smoked and then there is burnt. The taste of burnt permeated almost everything we ordered. The pulled pork, the sausage, ribs, wings, barbecue sauce. Nothing was safe from it. Tried to order at their take out window (it's actually just a table at the entrance) . Before I even got a word out of my mouth I was greeted with "sorry we're 2 hours away from fulfilling orders in person".... I replied "ok I'll wait because I realize it's COVID and I know I didn't call ahead". I got the look of death in response. Maybe even a "hey order now, thanks for your business but can you come back and pick up in an hour or two?" If you couldn't tell, I walked there on a cool summer night to see what was open. I felt like I really put them out of their way to even dare to show up without a 2 hour call ahead order. No thanks, if your customers during rough times is happy to support, patronize and over tip or over pay, what it like during good times? I'm literally your neighbor. But not when my first experience is that my order is inconveniencing your establishment. What if I just wanted a pulled pork sandwich on the bread? Yall slaughtering a pig, deboning the shoulder and smoking it, plus pulling the meat later hours? If that's the case, I'm set on contracting undercooked pork trigonosis or your BBQ is brought in from outside. There isn't really another answer, but I didn't even get a chance to make my order so the guy up front could decide to tell me they were out of something Thanks but no thanks, plenty of other places to eat where I don't feel like I'm being a burden to your business. I get it and I thank him for being realistic but it was just a smug response. This was a Sunday night around late June. Maybe it was a one off thing. I'll try again I guess? We wanted to have a night in so we ordered via door dash around 06:15pm not knowing it would take over two hours for it to arrive. We were looking to try something new and the food sounded delish but we didn't get our full order. Out of the three meals we ordered only one came and that was the brisket plate with a few sides that were part of the other meals ordered. After waiting for so long the food arrived around 08:30pm. Tiny bbq spot near Providence hit the spot! Made a reservation because I figured it being a Saturday night I might need one. Got there early and they seated us right away. The ambiance was relaxing and rustic. We split the huge platter that was decently priced and it was amazingly delectable. The brisket was tender and very moist, I didn't need to overuse bbq sauce good! The ribs were seasoned and cooked to perfection, falling off the bone. There is a lot going on in this place. They have a list of Twin Peaks-themed cocktails, really wild, funky interior design--and then the menu is solidly Texas low-country style smoked meat. We actually stopped in for a drink here one night before ever eating here, and promised to come back. We were glad we did, because the food is really good. There were four of us, so we ordered the "huge" platter to share. It comes with a variety of things, and the standouts included the smoked chicken wings and the pulled/chopped barbecue. There were also some house made pickles and coleslaw, equally tasty. The sides we ordered were also really good, but small--so be forewarned. I assumed they would be "family style" like the huge tray of meat, but they're not. They're not expensive, though, so just do what we did and get several different things so everyone in your party gets a little smattering. I was born and raised in North Carolina so I have definite barbecue opinions. This is more Texas or maybe even KC style, but the smoke and the care of preparation are absolutely there. The chopped barbecue really was a standout; I've eaten my weight in chopped 'cue many times over, and this was some of the best I've ever had. The sauces are good, too. They're on the sweet side, but not, like, pancake syrup. The brisket benefitted from a little sauce; (it was smoky, but just didn't have much else going on.) I should mention the ribs. I think we're all accustomed to the conventional idea of "good" ribs as having meat that's falling off the bone, maybe a little dry but lots of pork fat, perhaps oversauced. Our friends were not crazy about these, but I kept going back because they're kind of...beguiling? They're definitely not what you eat at a tailgate party. They're smoky, tender, and yielding to the bite--but all the meat doesn't pull away from the bone in one cave person-style bite. I really liked them. I'd be interested to see if they're always like this, or if this was a one off. Anyway, this is a cool spot in a neat part of Providence (at least I think so.) We've lived everywhere, so my wife and I kept saying it reminded us of places in DC, or NYC, or Philly, or...you get it. We were watching Phantom Gourmet on Saturday morning and there was mention of BBQ, but nothing near our location. So, we searched very little and found this restaurant only 25 minutes away, not far off of Atwell's. As the homepage came up, along too was a pop-up announcing they are looking for help. So, right there we make a judgement call and opt for takeout, rather than risk a slow or problematic table seating. The menu was extensive; easy to find a good sampler of their offerings. We ordered the medium platter along with sides of brussel sprouts, pickles, extra coleslaw and double cornbread. After first entering this order online, selecting no specific time - just ready as soon as... it would not accept the order, demanding that we try again by restarting and selecting a different date/time. We then selected an hour in the future, selected all the menu items once more and the order was accepted. We drove down during a flash snowstorm that left the roads in bad condition. But still, we arrived at the selected time - 6pm - and went in to pick up the order. Not ready. They had a very large order that came in at the counter and were just finishing it up. So, we waited about 20 minutes to get the bag of goodies and head home to chow down. It was all packed up and stapled shut, so I did take a moment to open the bag for a peak, just to count items. Each of the meats and poultry were cooked perfectly and thankfully, none were "over-sauced". This allowed us to really taste it and then add something if desired. The regular pork ribs were decent but we'll try the baby-backs next time. The wings were great, if a tad dry, but again, could add sauce. The sausage was just right, as was the pulled pork - delicious. The brussel sprouts were outstanding in that they tasted more like a dessert. Coleslaw was spot-on and a great way to set expectations for any bbq restaurant. Cornbread was good, with a little drizzle of sweet on each piece. The highest rated item was... pickles! Very yummy, tangy, spicy and juicy. There was plenty for two meals so we expect to enjoy it again, likely tomorrow night. The interior is tiny with not many tables and about 6 stools at the bar. But it looks like they have an outdoor seating area for the warmer months. It was cold inside (very cold outside at 15F), so we were happy to not have chosen to eat-in. Several diners opted to keep coats and even hats on during their meals. If you have not yet been, its definitely worth a visit. If they are still looking for help, give them plenty of time. :-) read more

We went out on the recommendation of our friend/host, and it was a most excellent recommendation. The three of us walked to this restaurant as it was right in our friends neighborhood. It's a somewhat small establishment, hardwood tables and subtle mood lighting for the restaurant. We were seated fairly quickly and service was pleasant and quick. The drinks were fantastic, I had gotten a whiskey cocktail (tried looking up the names, to no avail) and I could taste the whiskey, wasn't sweetened but a good cocktail. Had a different cocktail, the rumspringa, also recommend as well for drinks. We split a pound of wings between the three of us. Wings were nice especially with the red cabbage 'slaw. Our friend and I got the filet stroganoff. Six ounce filet with shiitake mushrooms, red bell peppers, white onions, egg pappardelle noodles, duck egg yolk and roasted garlic sour cream. Absolutely amazing! The filet was rare yet had a beautiful crust, the duck egg yolk mixed with the garlic sour cream was just rich and creamy combined. The veggies and mushrooms were subtle and added texture to the dish. Wifey got a burger, I don't think she liked it because she didn't finish it. It also came with a salad which she didn't touch. She didn't complain and I think she was fine. Meal was on point! Great food, felt satisfied and ready for bed with a full tummy. I'm super jealous that our friend lives near such a place like this, this would be dangerous as I would eat here weekly, maybe even several times a week. Worth checking out! read more

Reserve a table. This place is popular and about medium sized (I did not count the number of seeats, but if you've ever been to El Rancho Grande, it's about the same size). My partner and I came in on a Friday without a reservation. We waited about ten minUtes for a high top. There's a lot of cool energy in here. With sort of an upscale desert vibe, the decor commands your attention and does so effectively; it's a very unique place, and makes barbecue feel upscale. The food not only met our expectatIons, but exceeded it. I was very pleased with the smoke and crust on the ribs and wings that we ordered. Despite a hot sauce and a cola sauce coming with our wings... they really didn't need sauce. Whatever the dry rub is, it's addicting. Seasonal pickled vegetables are a perfect acidic component to balance the BBQ. Pickled corn was unexpected but delicious. Parking on the street is acceptable. All in all, no complaints read more

The noodles were cooked perfectly, the cheese was tasty but not overwhelming, and the meat complemented the mac and cheese perfectly. The brisket on the other hand was solid, though less amazing. Though I tend to enjoy leaner meat, I still found myself wishing the brisket had a bit more fat. I did enjoy the cornbread muffin it came with though - pretty moist and good texture. When we parked in the lot we saw a staff member chopping logs with a veritable axe: from there onwards, authenticity was the name of the game. The menu presents classic staples of barbecue in what I believe to be an Alabamian approach to condiments: from their special sauce (a mayo-vinegar infused concoction) to my personal favorite -the cola glaze they offer for wings. Speaking of wings, the chickenn wAs juicy on the bone but at the same time very well cooked, perfect balance. We did not try any meat on its own, but we added brisket to our Mac and cheese and boy oh boy were we glad we did: the meat pulled easily, and mix perfectly with the warm, crunchy pasta. BBQ (especially the brisket)was great. Sauces were not . When you visit a good BBQ joint, sauces shouldn't be $2 extra. They should always be available and free. Not more money for a piddly little 1oz. plastic bowl. To top off this complaint, their "Sticky Sweet Sauce", was anything but sweet. It was super salty and tangy. No seeetness at all. In fact, their "House Hot Sauce" (again, $2 extra, remember?) was sweeter than the Sticky Sweet. Odd I spent $20 for their small sampler which I was disappointed didn't come with some brisket. When I mentioned that to the waiter he said I could add that to the platter for an additional $8. I chose to do this as I really wanted to try it. Atmosphere is great, cozy and inviting. Staff responsive to request but doesn't initiate suggestions on the menu. The food is another matter. The pulled pork was okay but under seasoned. The ribs looked pretty but were dry. The brisket had a nice smoke ring but didn't carry any smoke flavor. The wings were good. On the sides the coleslaw is a hard pass, the dressing had a sour dairy taste and it was room temperture. The potato salad was unique with sort of a lemony pesto taste. I am a real fan of goid bbq having lived in KC and msde several trips to Texas; all in all this place is a pass on being good bbq. read more

I wanted to wait until I had tried one other BBQ place in Providence before I wrote my review. Pleasantly surprised at how deliciously this little spot does BBQ. I've taken guests here and had them mini cater for a group of 15, and it never disappoints. My guests always love the food too. I think it's better than Durks BBQ downtown. My favorite items are the brisket dog (YUM), any of their ribs, and the baked beans. Portion/prices are very fair. I have never sat inside so I cannot speak to the indoor ambiance, but their outdoor tables in their lot are nice on a nice summer day. They have a good selection of beers and their cocktails are solid and reasonably priced. Service is always great. I'd say I'm a regular here now :) read more

We sat outside for about half an hour before realizing we couldnt take the wind chill anymore and decided to go indoor instead. The waitress was cool about it. Only thing is while we were in, the lights were flickering due to electrical problems lol. It felt like it was beating to the music lol. We just needed to get to a place that was opened during the early work week and grab a drink to vent about work. I felt they had a great selection of drinks that included cocktails and bottles/cans along with virgin drinks too. The food menu had some really good options but we didnt want anything too heavy although tempting. For a slow night the service was kind of slower than what Im used to but the staff were friendly otherwise. I enjoyed the drink I ordered although I probably needed something stronger. We stopped in on a whim, and I am so glad we did! The folks here were so friendly and helpful, and made us feel very welcome. The interior is moody, beautiful and full of personality - definitely date-worthy if that's what you're looking for. We ordered a small platter (with the white sauce) with an additional side of pickled veggies and the chicken liver mousse. Perfect for two! The mousse was decadent and delicious, and definitely set the stage for what was to come (more deliciousness). The small meat platter had the perfect amount for two to share, with generous portions of ribs, wings, brisket, slaw, and pickled veg. The side of veggies was maybe a bit overkill (we didn't realize how many pickles would come with the platter), but the extra pieces of pickled corn made it worth it! The wings are brined and smoked and are just so delicious they don't need any sauce. Cool lighting and wallpaper and it felt like a mid century bar from Iceland. I got a watermelon crunchy salad and hubby did the wedge. The wedge had warm pork belly in his salad so he won. We both got the BBQ Sampler and of course it was too much food. I did not care for corn on the cob too vinegar but the rest !!!!! I went into this place with very high expectations, after seeing posts on the food they serve. We ordered take out . The ambiance is great. Very small place. The staff is friendly. The food on the other hand was pretty bad. We ordered a tray of a large selection of meat.... Firstly , the VERY smoookeddd pulled pork, I could taste that smoke mesquite taste with every bite. The wings had literal feathers on them and were very dry. The ribs were so dry and again could taste the bottle of smoked mesquite. The cornbread had a very fishy smell.. I don't know why.. the brisket was probably the only good meat except for the burnt edges and big fatty pieces. I can still taste the smoke flavor in my mouth , it's so strong. Unfortunately, all of this went in the trash.. we couldn't eat any more of that smoked flavor that was a little too excessive. The Cole slaw was dry and flavorless. The Brussels sprouts as appetizers were pretty good except for the last oily ones at the bottom. It's really too bad this place isn't great because it's cute inside but the food sucks. First off, the girls who work there are very inattentive and not welcoming. We went in the side door outside and they just looked at us. There is no hostess stand or any sign that says seat yourself. We sat outside and our apps came out before we even got utensils (not a big deal but we didn't even have plates to share the app for a few). Our meal came out and no one ever checked back, not once. We had no water, dying of thirst. We asked for water and the girl gave us a carafe that would fill one of our cups .... So once again just dying of thirst. Mad and cheese was eh. Rather watery. Corn bread was similar to market baskets. The cherry on top is that when we got our 8 oz carafe of water there was a huge hair in it that went half way into our water.
