I swear I've received Great People Auto but who knows with Yelp Ghost. They are located on Queen Street on the right side heading west before Cooke Street. You can't miss them as they often have a line of vehicles and they have bright Safety Check signs. The guys there are very friendly and helpful with the safety check process. Make sure you have your current vehicle registration, valid vehicle insurance and your old vehicle safety inspection document. I believe they also take photos of your vehicle for the safety check on their tablet. It doesn't take long and the line of vehicles moves quickly. It's probably best to avoid the beginning of the month and the end of the month if you're in a time crunch. A lot of people tend to get their safety checks around that time. I would assume all safety check prices are roughly the same but these guys are legit and you can't beat their service for only $26. read more

I came on a Saturday. Got there 7:29am, I was the first one, gates were open, uncle was just about done setting up. I was directed to drive inside. You don't need to get out of your car! They will ask for registration, insurance and last safety check. Another uncle was giving instructions on turning on your lights, signal, etc. super quick and easy! They even put my registration sticker on for me! (I haven't put it on for the last 3 weeks lol) i was charged $27 instead of the $26 that I've been seeing in other reviews. I WILL BE BACK NEXT YEAR. After waiting for over 1.5 hours and failing for illegal tint at Mililani Texaco, I called T&T Tinting to let them know my tint has somehow gotten darker (65% front and 27% sides). They had me come in to check it and my tint showed legal. They told me to try a different location and if I fail that they will replace my tint at no charge. Before leave T&T they referred me to Great People Auto which was 15 mins away. I drove straight into the show and was greeted by three gentlemen. I was asked for my documentation and didn't even need to leave my truck. I proceeded with their checklist of items and paid $26 cash. I was in and out within 5 minutes. Great customer service, quick and efficient. I highly recommend. I will be back next year for my next safety check. read more

Came here yesterday for the first time ever. Read the multitude of positive reviews for this place specifically doing safety checks, the efficiency of the safety check, and friendly workers. Everything was spot on. I had no appointment, there was only one car ahead of me, but I only waited for a few minutes (perfect time to consolidate my paperwork needed: previous safety, current registration, and insurance). The two gentlemen performing the safety check were like a dynamic duo, working in sync with each other. I was in and out really fast. These really are great people. I took my car in yesterday for a safety check thinking i needed one to renew my car's registration. Instead of just doing my safety check and taking my money, they told me my current safety check was still good for another few months and i could renew my registration easily at a safeway kiosk without it. Our vehicle safety checks are annually for most cars and that time of year comes around way too quickly. I was out and just noticed that my safety inspection was coming due soon. The thought of having to find a inspection shop that can do the checks quickly without a whole lot of details. Some shops will literally require you to leave your car there for 2 to 3 hours checking the smallest items. As I was driving to the mall, I noticed a huge sign advertising "safety check" which made me do a quick U turn. As I drove up, a guy waved me to driving inside the shop where there were two other gentlemen ready. They asked me for the car registration and insurance. After checking the basics of visual inspection of the car, signal and brake lights, they cleared my car. The price for the check is $27 cash and another $3.00 if paying by credit card. From the time I drove in to getting my inspection done, it was no more than 15 minutes top! I also note that it was later in the afternoon on a weekday so if there were other vehicles or toward the end of the month, I am guessing the wait may be longer. read more

Safety checks are notoriously hard to get here in Hawaii. NOBODY likes to do them. I used to schedule them with an oil change at Jiffy Lube, until half the time there wasn't an inspector available that day. Good luck getting a safety check without any other type of service done. Its possible, but a pain in the butt. Here's a place that actually rather just do safety checks and nothing else and its FAST. Here's some basic rules: 1) The space next to the the RV is next in line to get checked. Parked there. DO NOT BLOCK THE DRIVEWAY OUT OF THE SHOP. If the spot next to the RV is taken, gotta pull over right behind the person next to the RV. 2) When its your turn, drive into the shop as instructed and stop when told. Turn your engine off. Give him your Insurance, Registration, and copy of your last safety check. You will stay in your car the entire time. I paid $26 and I have tint. Seems cheap to me. I just paid cash. I needed an oil change also, but was too afraid to ask. Clearly this guy (only one guy working) only wants to do safety checks. read more

Great my ass! I drove all the way over there as I was recommended to go to this place to get my safety check done to change my plates, the place was pretty hard to find as the name of the auto shop isn't even visible. I pull up and the people were immediately rude to me. This old guy in a white shirt came up and rudely said "paperwork" then immediately walked behind my car despite very visibly having it in my hand like you couldn't say it in a nicer way? You couldn't wait until I handed you the paperwork before walking off? Then once he came back he said "do you have insurance or not" even though I still visibly had it in my hand, I showed him the insurance card and he said "we can't check it as it's not Hawaii insurance" and then rudely asked me to leave. I was trying to ask questions as I'm new to this place and wasn't told that I needed Hawaii insurance prior to it. He wasn't answering any of my questions but instead was telling me to back out and go, so I did. This place has terrible service, if you need to get a safety check, do it at a well known auto shop. I went to Firestone and they did it no problem at all, why couldn't they? Complete waste of time and gas! read more
