Now this is a better business I've added manually! So one thing I like to do when getting food or drink from international airports is I like to look for places where I can't get this kind of thing at home. Thankfully with Charlotte, you can just look for the "CLT" to look for Carolina Original spots that opened up in the airport. My bigger reason for coming here though is because back in 2023 when I played over for like 6 hours at this airport, I came here when it was The Broken Spoke and got a Campari/Perrier mix-up to start the lay-over. Since my last visit, this place has gone under new management and has now become Great Wagon Road Distilling Company. However, they do have a drink called "The Broken Spoke", and given the memory of what I had the last time I was here, I went with that. Honestly, I wasn't expecting this to be quite so strong as it was, but I had 2 and this led to me being buzzed pretty much the rest of my layover. In fact, it even led to some drunken ordering that I will speak about in a couple other reviews. This drink has RUA Single Malt Whiskey, Benedictine, Amaro Montenegro, and a Zested Orange Rim. It was good, I just did not expect it to hit that strong. I'm sure everyone in Charlotte loved seeing me prance around the terminals like an idiot. Actually, let's talk about my bartender Isabela for a moment. So when I had told her my order, she originally wasn't sure it was even on the menu. Luckily for both of us, she'd checked to see if she had the ingredients. Turns out, she did, and she was able to get it done. She's actually nice bartender, and kind of like what I was saying in one of my other airport reviews, I applaud anyone who can keep their demeanor in an airport setting when people have to board flights to anywhere. She was actually the one to tell me about the name change which I actually appreciated as it was a confusing sight for me when I had landed in Charlotte. All in all, a good stop if you have time between flights. Just make sure you finish your drinks well before boarding, and don't let the name change scare you. read more

Okay I really liked this place?? Felt so tucked away, I've lived a mile or so from here for a year and had no idea! They have good vibes, seating both inside and outside, dogs could hang, drinks were 10/10. I noticed they had an espresso martini tree / flight situation so I will definitely be back !!!! My drink was like a bees knees with Irish moonshine and it tasted like a sip of spring. Bartenders were friendly, bonus points for cool accents! They have food options as well - we all know we should have a snack whilst drinking. You can pop in with a quick walk from 36th St light rail station. There is street parking if that's your thing. Went on a Sunday afternoon. Not too crowded. Sat outside where they had music playing and sports events on the TV's. Nice relaxed atmosphere with many people bringing their dogs for afternoon cocktails. We didn't do a tour or a tasting . Tried their Quinn's Old Fashion which was delicious but a little pricey for a local distillery in my opinion. My wife had their Manhatten which she absolutely loved. The Great Wagon Distilling Company is a local distillery known mostly for their malt whiskey blends although they also dabble in other spirits including gin and vodka. You can find their products around the city, but if you care to go to the source then you can their main location in the NoDa area, a little ways past NoDa proper and not too far from the Sugar Creek Station. It is definitely worth the trip, because if you feel like hanging out, they have live music during the summer along with delicious pizzas and a fantastic cocktail menu. I have been several times and think their cocktails are some of the best in the city, and the pizza hits the spot! I also really enjoy their signature whiskey Rua and have gifted it to several family friends and family members so that they could enjoy a taste of Charlotte. Even if you only have time to pop in to grab a bottle of spirits, I highly recommend making the trip! read more

I really enjoyed this spot! I went on a Friday evening and it was fully adorned with the holiday spirit, including a tall Christmas tree. Food and drinks are "order at the bar" style with a buzzer for food. The bartender was super friendly and helpful when I told him my whiskey cocktail preferences, and the drink was both strong and tasty. Our first visit here upon visiting Charlotte. The ambiance is casual and cool. The weather was good, so the interior was open to the outside. There is ample space outside on a newly constructed patio, which also housed a small performance stage. Although they are a spirits maker, they had beer on draught too. My wife had a dark beer, while I had their Quinn's Whiskey. It was an excellent suggestion from the bartender. It is very similar to a bourbon. We ordered a 12" pepperoni pizza. It came out quickly and was very good. The crust was just how we like it, thin and a little chewy. As we sat outside, the act they booked began to play. It was a woman from Virginia and her boyfriend. They were outstanding! We watched as the staff frequently disinfected the tables as each guest left. We eventually had to google map it and realized that they had changed their name to Great Wagon Road. We were sitting in the indoor section for quite some time until we realized someone had gotten up from the firepit. For the place being half indoors/half outdoor, the indoor section was actually pretty darn cold. We immediately darted towards the firepit to warm ourselves up. I love love the firepit aesthetics to this place, and with Covid going on still, I wish they added a few more firepits to the place as it's really cold outside lately. This place has good whisky and good food. It needs a little more vibe inside for the Noda resident. Pizzas are a hit but also a slight miss. Chicken and waffle amazing, they use spring water which gives the dough a very nice texture. Pepperoni was too cheesy, too greasy, and too saucy. Crust couldn't hold up. Easy tweak. I will be back. The drinks... They always have a barrel special and it's usually top notch. All they need is a little more atmosphere, another TV so we can watch some sports...outside and in. Maybe a slight tweak in their ratios on food so that grease doesn't overpower their amazing crust. Bartenders are amazing! Super friendly and professional. We went here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We were the first ones there. We ordered an old fashion and their seasonal spicy margarita along with the Noda Funky pizza with added pepperoni. The space is open inside with a good size shaded patio. They have live music on weekend nights. The pizza was tasty and unique. The crust was delicious and it's all handmade to order. Staff was super friendly and pets are allowed outside. They serve drinks and cocktails which is perfect for my husband and I because I don't drink beer. One of my favorite places for socializing with a few cocktails and some of the best bar food anywhere. We spend a good deal of time in the Charlotte area and this is my go-to when a group of us go out. There is so much to explore in the NoDa District, but this is always our rendezvous point when it's time to eat. Everything on the menu is made fresh to order and the Pizzas are a must try. Our favorites are the Dill Pickle, the Chicken & Waffle, and the Hawaiian. This is also a working distillery and their Rúa Single Malt is one of my favorite whiskies. All Cocktails are made with fresh ingredients and they've now added Cheerwine/Quinn's Whiskey and Sundrop/Salamander Vodka Slushes. I usually stick with Rúa with a rock, the Broken Spoke, Old Fashioned, or the Gold Rush, but the Key Lime & Cherry Limeade Mule, Gin & Tonic, and Gimlet are family favorites. They also serve an impressive selection of local and big name beers and wines. With only an exception or two, we've found the bartenders to be some of the best and most personable around. They boast Large TV's both inside and out as well as a stage in their covered outdoor area for live, local music. Picnic tables, outdoor furniture, corn hole boards, and fire pits provide plenty of seating/entertainment for large groups. They are pet and kid friendly.
