What happened to this place? As recent as 3 years ago, Great Wall was among the best take out in the white plains area. Now, many of their dishes feel mediocre at best. Examples: General Tso's and Sesame Chicken are two different dishes, but they are virtually the same when prepared here. What's worse is that neither of them are tasty anymore. The chicken itself is tough, small and chewy, and the flavor is blah. The last time I ordered either of these, I just couldn't finish it due to the (lack of) quality. The sweet and sour pork is balls of battered bread with tiny hard-as-rocks meat inside. Even their pork fried rice has gone downhill - dry, no egg, and flavorless. On the positive side, there are still several dishes that are very tasty and well done, and the serving size on the combos is very good. Additionally, the service is always great - the staff is very nice and always has a smile even when it's busy. They make a point to remember repeat customer's orders, too. For the record: Don't go here to eat-in. It's tiny with 3 tables. It's really more of a take-out place. I still plan on dining with Great Wall, but I wish they'd get back to their former glory! read more

I ordered delivery from here for the first time. It arrived very quickly. The soups were good, the hot and sour had lots of mushrooms and tofu in it. The wonton was equally tasty. I ordered chicken and broccoli, chicken with mixed vegetables, and boneless spareribs with fried rice. The spareribs were well marinated and tasty. The chicken with mixed vegetables had a good array of different types of vegetables and was fresh and hot. The chicken and broccoli was tender and plentiful. I love the eggroll and the fried rice. There's no lot so it's all street parking, usually doesn't get too packed in Silver Lake. Great Wall looks like a hole in the wall but it feels more spacious on the inside. The floor and tables were very clean, and the owner was very friendly. I didn't know there was a $15 credit card minimum and he cut me a break. I came here just wanting to fill my belly after a long day, I wasn't expecting to be impressed. The food here is very good, I got the beef with broccoli lunch special. The sauce was thick and flavorful; the beef and veggies were delicious. I am usually skeptical of quality control on new restaurants but this place delivered. The pork fried rice was seasoned and cooked properly. The wonton soup broth was a little too peppery for my taste, but the dumplings in the soup were good. This place was a small restaurant that had a couple tables for dine in which was perfect. This place has a great selection of food on their menu, and the food was served pretty fast. The beef low mein, spare ribs, and garlic broccoli was delicious. There was more than enough food for two. I ordered the shrimp sweet-and-sour which was a little different than my normal. It was basically deep-fried battered shrimp with a side of sweet-and-sour sauce. It was still delicious and fresh, but was not the dish I had in mind. I got take out from Great Wall a few weeks ago and did a bulk buy for a few days. I was craving Chinese take out and thought I might as well stock up. I got the classics:Chicken Lo Mein and General Tso's Chicken, which are my go to orders when comparing Chinese take out restaurants. I also got a Eggplant and Chicken to mix it up with more of an authentic dish. The Chicken Lo Mein and General Tso's were okay, not amazing in either quantity or flavor but not bad. The Eggplant and Chicken was pretty good but I also haven't had it in a while. In terms of quantity of food, I would say still a good amount (probably enough for 2 meals- but 3 would be stretching it). For my sides I got the Hot and Sour Soup and it was definitely a gem! I usually don't order it but Great Wall has a solid take. The Wonton soup was a little lackluster, too much wrapper and not enough filling for my taste. I would pick the Hot and Sour soup over the Wonton. Overall, nice and cheap Chinese restaurant in the area. read more

The General Tso's chicken was soggy, gummy and the sauce was not like any other restaurant. I had to look up my order receipt to see if I had ordered sesame or orange chicken by mistaken. There was no spice and there were no spicy chili peppers at all. The fried rice was also not good. Bland and nothing but onions and bean sprouts and barely any pork. The egg roll was much thinner than any I've gotten before also and was practically no filling at all - it was mostly soggy wonton wrapper wrapped around 3 layers at least. I don't think I've ever experienced such terrible customer service. I placed an order for takeout and when I got home a couple of the items were wrong. When I called the restaurant the man that answered the phone immediately started giving me an attitude and screaming at me once I told him why I was calling. He didn't even let me speak and just finished the call with "I'm not talking to you anymore" and then hung up on me. I called back and again he screamed at me and hung up the phone. There are so many reviews on here about the terrible customer service. I guess I didn't care before because I didn't have a reason to complain before but I will never order from this restaurant again. Lo mein was good. Duck was bland and dry, moo shu shrimp came with wonton wrappers instead of pancakes (they are too thin for this use and broke immediately). Great Wall Chinese take out is definitely the best around. Honestly, I didn't even know how much better it was than others until I moved out of town and started trying other Chinese restaurants. The owner and his wife opened this place probably about 15-20 years ago. Although the decor is original and out dated, the food is just as good as it was when they opened. This place is the reason why Asian is my second favorite cuisine. Service is quick, prices are affordable, and most importantly the food is great. My favorite meal is white rice with wonton soup, both of which are amazing. For some meals (such as when I get dumplings) they give you duck sauce and soy sauce. I love Great Wall, and I have for many years. For two decades they have provided consistently great tasting dishes and fresh seafood. You don't have to take my word for it, go ahead and try their boneless spare ribs, pork fried rice, or one of their combo plates. They have very fair prices and a huge menu. On top of all that, the place is kept very clean. Don't expect quick delivery during rush hours because the place is jammed with orders, you're much better off ordering for take out during peak times. I normally order from this restaurant and the food is pretty decent. This past Friday, I experienced the worst customer service. I ordered my food at 8:40 for delivery. They took my order, knew my address and charged my card. At 10 o'clock I called to check the status of my order. A man answered the phone asked what was my order. I proceeded and told him what I ordered. He then told me he does not see that order. He asked when did I call. I said at 8:40. He then told me it's 10 o clock. I reiterated this is why I am calling to check the status. He tells me I called the wrong number. I then said I have the right number. I order from you all the time. He told me he has been taking the orders all night and did not get my order. I explained to him that a female took my order. He then told me no they didn't. I explained that my card was charged. He asked me for the last four digits of my card. I shared this information with him and he said their is no card number with those digits. I told him I was on my way and then he asked what did I order again. I told him the order and the amount charged to my card. He stated " what you ordered does not come up to that amount." He then speaks to someone on his end and miraculously finds my card information. He tells me the machine jammed or glitched. I then told him what you should be saying is I am sorry. You should gather all of the information before you tell someone they are wrong and never called your business. I am disappointed. They did finally refund me the money. After all of the rebuttals I believe I should have been reimbursed and my food sent to my address. That did not happen. I am disgusted. read more
