I have been ordering from Grecian Kitchen for several years now and the food has been good. The food used to come fairly quickly and it was hot. I ordered wings a month ago and was so disappointed. They were reheated a few times because they were really dry, tasteless and cold. I thought I would give them another chance tonight. I put in my order around 6:50 and was told my order would be here in an hour. At 7:44 I got a call and the fellow was nice but not really apologetic nor did he explain why my order would be an additional 45 minutes. He suggested it would arrive between 8:15 and 8:30 and wondered if I still wanted it?!? I asked if they had started my order and he said they had not. I told him to cancel the order and saved myself $28.00 for my gyros sandwich, house salad, Greek fries and tip. My first time here and last! It was a gorgeous day so stopped because they had outdoor seating. Probably the worse lunch I ever had. I ordered a spinach pie dinner. I had two sides , green bean medley and rice. The rice was bland and over cooked. The beans were ice cold. And I'm not exaggerating. The spinach pie was ok, had better. It had a lot of meat and the fries were crispy. Came out to about $10.89. Have had better gyros in Greece and other places in Chicago. There were hardly any onions and tomatoes. I went here with my cousin and we got a gyro dinner with fries and Greek potatoes, they messed up our order and gave us sweet potato fries instead, and the souvlaki. The gyro was good I just wish it came with more than one pita, it wasn't enough for all the meat they gave us. The tzatziki was great but could have used some more cucumbers in it. I work in an office building not too far away and we order from here fairly regularly. Today I needed a quick lunch because I'm working a 12 hour shift. The delivery man did not speak English, he had trouble finding our office which admittedly is very hard to find. He called and as I tried to explain where we were he hung up on me. He eventually found me, but there was no silverware which I specifically asked for. I called to complain because I have no access to utensils and the manager got upset saying it was the front of the house staff that should have included it and that driver does speak a little English. He said that he couldn't find anyone to work so he takes what he can get. I said I'd like a credit for the meal I couldn't eat and he said that he would send someone back. Having gone to Grecian kitchen for over 18 years, I would definitely rate them a 5 star. The owner is friendly and professional. Sometimes my folks would dine out there in the location and other times they order a takeout. They serve greek and italian foods with some fast food items. They have alot of different kinds of salads. Pricing is moderate. Place is clean. I only wish they update restroom areas. Parking space accomodates many cars. You can also watch Television inside the establishment. Dengeo and Hubs are larger restaurants but Grecian Kitchen has a good strategic spot next to Walgreens which has alot of traffic. Furthermore the staff are friendly and responsive. I enjoyed the moussaka, pasticio and their gyros. Moussaka is an eggplant dish while the pasticio is a greek version of the italian lasagna. I waited an additional 20 minutes after arriving to receive the order...so 35 minutes rather than 10?! All the while the customers that came in and ordered their food in person also received it before my order was ready...AND I ORDERED AHEAD!!! ‍ I FINALLY got my order and headed home to eat. To add to an already horrible experience, when I unpacked the order, we found they got one of the three plates I ordered completely wrong??? Instead of gyros, green beans and rice I received chicken gyros with corn on the cob and Greek potatoes...NOT EVEN CLOSE!!! When I called back to speak to a manager I requested the correct plate be delivered as soon as possible. The manager not only did not offer a discount but also never even apologized??? I find it hillarious that Hubs and Grecian are literally minutes away from each other on the same street. Hubs obviously having been in Skokie longer. I viewed Grecian as an imposter for a while and refused to go here untillll.. I noticed that the prices are more reasonable. Overall, there isn't a whole lot of difference in quality. The kitchen is entirely visible and your food is prepared on the spot. I was looking forward to trying their chicken sandwich. Unfortunately I did not know what I was ordering and got the chicken gyro, which I found to be very mediocre. The sauce on it was too much, and the gyro tasted unnatural to me. The fries were the kind I do not like- as if they were slightly breaded on top of regular french fries. They are not natural. Then I ordered rice pudding to take home. It was awful too. It tasted like they took some leftover hard rice and mixed it in with milk, etc... It had the worst texture I've ever tasted in a rice pudding. So, unfortunately, I would not recommend the items I ordered. Perhaps other items are of better taste/quality. Have driven past here innumerable times. I have never eaten here before today. I had the Gyro sandwich and must say it was delicious!! The best Gyro I have had since I can't remember when. I order with out sauce. Just tomato and onion with a couple slices of lemon on the side. NO SAUCE!! I tasted the meat and it was moist and tender, tasty and in a quite generous amount. So I took a lemon slice and squeezed the juice on the meat, sprinkled on a little sea salt and enjoyed my food. Why then only 4 stars you may not be asking yourself?? The answer, tomatoes and onions were few and far between!! 1 slice of tomato cut in half, and a few strings of raw onion. Will be glad to give up a couple slices of Gyro meat for another slice of tomato and a couple more onions. Made what otherwise would have been a great lunch to be downgraded to its good but not so great!! I will definitely go back and order the Gyro again and ask to be given an extra tomato and onion on my sandwich.
