hubby and i met up with a couple of my friends and their 2 kids for dinner here and we totally lucked out b/c it wasn't crowded at all! in fact, we were one of 3 or 4 parties there on this monday evening, so there was no wait for a table, and service was generally fast and prompt. since i ate way too many goodies (read sugar and sweets) over christmas, i wanted to be healthy, so i only ordered a village salad ($9.95) which consisted of tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, green peppers, spring onions, feta cheese and kalamata olives, with dressing on the side, of course. they also added anchovies to this salad, which wasn't listed on the menu, but i wasn't opposed to since it would give me a little bit of protein. the salad was pretty standard in size and taste, but the anchovies were super salty! for someone who already doesn't like salted food, this was a bit too much for me to take! my husband ordered the trio Platter ($16.95) which was a combination of gyro, pork and chicken souvlaki served with greek salad, french fries, pita bread and tzatziki sauce. i had his chicken skewer which was tender and well-seasoned without being overly salty. i also had some of his pita bread which was soft and chewy, just the way i like my pita prepared! my friend had ordered the tilapia, but the chef goofed and prepared a salmon for her instead. the waitress apologized and asked if the salmon was ok, to which my friend nodded yes. the waitress also said that she'd make up for the error by bringing us a dessert or something at the end of the meal. we never saw this dessert, but fortunately for my friend, she enjoyed her salmon filet. considering the fact that it was not a busy night, i am docking an extra star for the mistake on my friend's entree. but otherwise, i thought the food was pretty solid and the ambiance appropriate for a party of 6 which included 2 little ones. read more

Came here for a work lunch. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall. The outside is pretty deceiving because the restaurant is pretty big on the inside. We ordered the chicken souvlaki pitas and the food came out in good time. There was only one other table at the time. The food was solid. I have a favorite Greek place that I frequent regularly and this place doesn't compare but I would come again. The staff was really friendly and this place is close to work. We went with a large group. As other's have mentioned, it was much larger on the inside than you would expect. Even with our group of 11, service for lunch was pretty efficient. We had a few appetizers, but I didn't try any. I ordered the salmon salad and was pleasantly surprised at the size versus the cost. Dressing was on the side by default. The dressing was so-so. Salad was quite good though. The salmon was cooked nicely, and had enough herb seasoning to keep it interesting. Service was a little slow for water refills. Admittedly I'm the person that usually thinks "Just leave the pitcher here, because I'm going to kill that"... Prices seemed to be really quite good. It's hard to judge a place just based on the salad though, but from the comments from everyone else, no one complained. I'm a HUGE fan of Greek food, especially gyro's done right. While I am a huge fan of Greek food, I'm an even huger fan of good customer service. I had eaten at the Greek Village a couple of times, and I later saw that they had a Sunday brunch buffet available. Well this was something that I really wanted to partake in, and I managed to convince some friends to go with me on a Sunday morning. Unfortunately they had already eaten, so it looked like it was going to be just me taking part in the buffet. Before being seated, we asked the host if that would be an issue. My friends intended on ordering something small from the menu, and I would get the brunch. The host informed us that this would be fine. As we were enjoying our meal, an older gentleman who was a manager or owner, came to our table and started yelling at us about how much the brunch was going to cost. We were EXTREMELY taken aback at this, as we (I thought at least) were OK according to the host. Looking back, I think the manager thought that I was sharing the brunch food with my friends. However, if they thought that, it certainly could have been handled better than yelling at your patrons eating in the restaurant. Usually after an incident like this, that would be immediate grounds for a one-star review, but I'm bumping it up a star because the food is really good. Especially their gyro's. This beautiful Greek restaurant always has 5 star food and 5 star service! It's located in a shopping center at the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Randolph Road in the Colesville section of Silver Spring. Authentic Greek food prepared and served with heart! Our favorite is the Octabpodaki Stakarvouna appetizer (charbroiled octopus) that is out of this world! The Greek salad is the best I've ever had, and the Village salad is like the Greek salad on steroids, with anchovies! Yum!! Fish entrees are exquisite, and even the broiled chicken is worth a return trip! The Galktobouriko desert (filo dough filled with orange custard topped with honey & cinnamon) is a must-have. We've been here for lunch and dinner many times over the years, and we've never had anything but a 5-star experience! read more

I got the avgolemono soup which was ok. I also tried the gyro on pita bread which came with fries. They put alot of lamb meat on the gyro which was good but the tzatzki sauce on top was kind of thick and only ok. I've been here several times for lunch because it's one of the only interesting food choices near my office. It's a little pricey if you're on a budget - $12.95 or so for shrimp alfredo "lunch special." I just went there and ordered a small house salad for 5 bucks which is mostly cheap lettuce and oil dressing. My date ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, which was super dry. The bill was quite high for these small items and unsweetened iced teas, and the service was slow, inattentive and rude. Why do I keep going back? I don't know! The avgolemono is mediocre, they grill their chicken to tough dry oblivion. I think I remember some lamb dishes being tasty, and of course they have tasty looking gyros, but gyros are worse for your arteries than several big macs. On the plus side, people do show up at lunch time (not crowded, but a respectable crowd) so they must be doing something right. If you want to spend too much on a Greek salad but enjoy the white-and-blue decor and trompe l'oeil murals on the walls, I guess it's not the worst choice you could make. read more

The online menu doesn't always match up as well . Entree online said comes with Greek salad but it actually came with just a garden salad. I've been here twice - most recently was last night. First off, the place. It's almost always empty. I feel like most of the patrons are regulars who have been coming here for years. Nothing wrong with a steady customer, though. I just wonder how they manage to keep the place open - "he does a lot of take-out", my friend said helpfully. I honestly don't eat Greek food, but I certainly don't mind it. I got the lemon-something chicken one time and the chicken kabob the second time. I can't compare it to anything else simply because I haven't tried any other Greek place. Food: I ordered a gyro sandwich (basic, I know) and my friend ordered the moussaka. They were both pretty good, but I find Greek food delicious anyways so I may be a little biased. The food here is authentic. Service: This is why I couldn't quite give this place 5 stars. Although the server was very friendly and helpful, he was not very attentive and did not check on us as often as needed. We probably waited for him for 20-30 minutes after we were finished with our meals; we ended up grabbing someone else's attention to get our waiter to bring us the check. Atmosphere: I went on a weekday around 7pm and it was pretty empty. Large space though, so I'm sure it gets crowded during weekends. All in all, I'd come back here again. read more

Surprise! That's the impression I had when we stepped in through the front door of the Greek Village for lunch about 14:00. My wife and I had been at the Giant Food store to pick up a prescription refill, and a Flu shot. With our errands complete, we debated over a lunch destination and decided to try the Greek Village restaurant since it was right next-door to the Giant. This restaurant had been there for quite a while but we had previously ignored it. Stopping there turned out to be a good decision - the restaurant was inviting us in with the front-door open to the day's cool weather. We were greeted at the doorway and taken to a table. The table was nicely set with silverware and cloth tablecloths, the environment was quiet, and we were presented menus as glasses on the table were filled with chilled water. We decided to each order the "Chicken Souvlaki Platter". Our food was brought out after about fifteen minutes, and after it was delivered, our waiter checked back several times to see if we wanted anything additional. I would rate the service as friendly and attentive. Of course, the Chicken Souvlaki was good; I mean, how can it not be? But the platter included french-fried potatoes which were really enjoyable. Hot, crispy, with some second coating of extra crispy goodliness... Don't know what it was, but the fries were really good. Next the Greek Salad on the platter: Lots of red onion, some kalamata olives, some feta cheese chunks. Home-made Greek dressing was served along side the salad, as was a container of Tzatziki sauce and a Pita sliced into quarters. The environment, though quiet, was interesting: At a large rectangular table several customers were carrying on an animated conversation in a language I assessed as Greek. During our presence a few customers entered to obtain carry-out meals. There appeared to be about fifteen eating tables in the dining room, as well as a bar at the back: It looks as if this restaurant may be very well occupied at other hours. We have only visited one time, and consumed one meal, but for now I consider the Greek Village an equal to the more-distant-to-us Greek Island Grill. Came here at an odd time of 4 pm- not exactly lunch but not exactly dinner. Not surprisingly my friend and I were the only ones in the entire restaurant at this time. My vegetarian friend got the eggplant parmesan and didn't like it at all. The portion was pretty small for the $14 price although the salad that came beforehand was pretty big. It's cheaper and SO MUCH BETTER at an Italian restaurant. That was a huge mistake. I got the pork soulaki platter. The pita bread that came with it was barely warm and really stale. The salad was good. The fries were ok. The pork was overdone but just ok. Really wish the pita could've been fluffy and warm... The service was just whatever- it looked like the kid was more interested in the soccer game on tv in the corner. I made a reservation for a group of senior citizens from Riderwood, a nearby retirement community. This was for a Saturday lunch and was to be the group's first off-campus meal together. About 25 individuals attended the lunch and the restaurant graciously allowed us to stay after our meal and have a meeting. I have been to Greek Village a number of times and in many cases with a large group. As usual, Greek Village did a wonderful job for our group. A single waitress took our individual orders, other staff helped her serve and at the end each person got an individual check. Our waitress was calm, cool, collected and professional throughout our visit, She was never flustered by questions from the group or the need to repeat things. The restaurant and its staff did its usual great job and I heard many compliments from those attending the lunch, saying how much they enjoyed the restaurant, food and service. Going to preface this by saying I *hated* this place for six years because I was really obstinate and would not go beyond the gyro and feta me elies, so four stars is more like a five star rating on my end. After a year-long boycott (yes, really) I was finally brought back here with a more adventurous mindset and went for the dolmadakia and the lamb riganato. both SLAYED. the lamb was so well-cooked it literally fell off the bone, and the sauce+potatoes it was served with elevated it a ton. The dolmadakia really popped with this bright lemony flavor that I couldn't ID at the time. They also serve great galaktoboureko. From years and years of being taken here while pining for the two easy gyro takeout places in Downtown Silver Spring I have to say... make sure you deviate from American tastes. The gyro is okay, possibly worse than what you'd get at the Big Greek Cafe. But this is not a run-of-the-mill Greek place--the more traditional your choices, the better the food gets. Every time I've been the servers are really responsive (usually because the place is empty, a fact not helped out by the mirrors lining it on multiple sides.) I wish they got more business, but sadly they're in the middle of a strip mall. They do seem to have a large base of mostly older regular customers. It also looks like large groups frequently visit for small parties/events, which they totally have the table space for. If they were in Bethesda or DTSS they would be everyone's favorite local spot. Cool! NOT!!!!!! I showed the waitress and she kindly said she would show the owner although the might get mad. (I'm thinking to myself- get mad over what?!). So anyways she goes over to the register and the owner waddles over, grunting, and breathing heavily saying "we don't accept this, but is this for the Chinese people?" He points at us and shakes his head then says "never again." Meanwhile we are sitting right there (we aren't even Chinese) and he was so rude and disrespectful. To my belief- don't post up a yelp check in deal and not honor it, then fight with your customers about it. The rest of the time we are there finishing up and packing up to leave he's yelling and arguing with the other guys (obviously talking about us) and staring us down.
