Excellent authentic Greek in Silver Spring. A great find and not overpriced. I really like Greek food and it is not easy to find authentic gyros cooked on the rotisserie oven. But it is here along with great souvlaki, saganaki, and stuffed eggplant. Owner George is very pleasant and accommodating and so is the wait staff. The place is good sized with many tables that seat 6 so it is good for groups. We had a variety of items including the saganaki, stuffed eggplant, London broil, and a combination platter. I stopped in here last week around 4:30 p.m., too early for supper but the restaurant's name made me hungry! I was the only customer in the restaurant at first. All the tables had white tablecloths and blue napkins. I had a very good, generous Greek salad, "village bread" (garlic bread with some other herbs), and fresh iced tea. I look forward to our weekly dinners here. Every dish, and I mean every dish, is so delicious that it is nearly impossible to pick a favorite. My husband is in love with their lamb dishes. I am crazy about their chicken and fish meals. Their salad is superb. I try to leave half of their huge meals to take home in order to leave room for their in-house made desserts. Once someone comes to the Greek Village they will make it their best restaurant for life. The atmosphere is the tops...there is usually a Greek program on their large tv screen that is easy to see and hear from the tables. Like Mikey says: Try it, you'll like it. read more

This is one of those restaurants where the median age of the patrons are in their mid-50s and they have a set routine where some day of the week, they go to Greek Village for a meal. I've been to a greek place in Reston that's family run, and the staff makes you feel welcome and valued. Here it's like they go through the motions, but their heart isn't in it anymore. We feel out of place as the youngest patrons there, and for some reason feel under dressed. Our young waitress looks like she's in high school but moves and thinks like someone three times her age. The food was okay, the portions were decent, but the prices are not what you expect of a strip mall restaurant. (Later on, my brother and sister had to hunker down in the restrooms at Target...) Anyway, the main reason for our less than stellar meal was the check. My sister and I were splitting the bill for dinner. She gives our young waitress her debit card. It was declined. My sister is flipping out because she thinks someone stole her debit card number and she has no money in the bank. So I pay for the rest of the tab with my debit card. We're driving to Target and she calls the bank while we're filling up on gas. The helpful agent at the bank told her that there was no problem with her account at all. Our server had entered her debit card number incorrectly, and that's why it was declined. Meanwhile, I'm secretly flipping out because I'm checking my bank account online through my sister's iPhone and it looks like I was charged for my half of the bill, and was charged again for the entire check. I was wondering how I would convince the restaurant on how to give me a refund, as I only received a copy of one of the receipts. But after a few days, the first transaction was dropped, much to my relief. I don't think we will come back again as you should never feel that stressed after a meal. read more

All I wanted for dinner tonight was Greek food. I thought about it my ENTIRE drive home tonight..... I walked in, they looked at me like I had two heads when I said I was dining alone. This has become my favorite Greek restaurant to go to. It feels authentic and is clearly family run which we like. The good is great! I love their gyro platter (which is huge) and the kabobs are really good too. My wife really likes their spinach pie and the moussaka. The lemon rice soup is also very tasty. My husband ordered takeout from this place and I picked it up on the way home. When I went in to get the food the guy seemed annoyed I was there and like I was inconveniencing him. This place is cozy and has a real family style feel to it. We went at night after deciding not to go to Ledo's, and this place was bustling with activity. Luckily we were seated quickly. I ordered the Eggplant Parm and stuffed grape leaves and my boyfriend got the gyro platter. I don't usually do eggplant but here its THE BEST. It literally melted in my mouth. Their moussaka looked good too, but there's no vegetarian option. Their dolamades were decent, but I was pretty won over by the eggplant parm and their hefty portions. Reflecting back on my experience here one word comes to mind -- dry. Service was dry and impersonal, but was good other than that. The 3 meat trio is an enormous portion. The chicken and pork were both incredibly dry and bordering on inedible. The salad and pita were very good. For appetizers I loved the feta cheese and olive plate. The hummus was disappointing. It had way too much tahini and the texture was dry and lacking the creaminess that is part of what makes hummus so addictive. I was mostly disappointed with the food here and felt it deserved only 2 stars, but the baklava here is sooo delicious it is deserving of its very own star!! read more

Don't bother! I like to start a bad review with a simple rule I follow. "First impressions can make or break you." I discovered this little shopping center because of Ledo's Pizza. I decided to check out the Greek Village today. I never ordered because of the extremely poor attitude of the staff. I was never asked if I would like a seat, or was I interested in carry-out. I cannot recommend the Sunday morning buffet enough (11-3). We have a tradition where we take a friend there for her birthday. Let's put it this way... all three of us look forward to the meal ALL YEAR LONG! Yeah, it is really that good. If we didn't have a little one with us, I think the three of us would sit there for hours simply to enjoy all the food they have to offer. If it wasn't so far away, we'd definitely go more often. To be honest, my experience with Greek food is limited. Which makes the buffet perfect, because there are things that might sound OK or questionable on a menu but look and taste completely different. The best thing here is the gyros - delicious, and huge. One gyro is five meals for me, it's that big. Well, I don't eat that much at one time. But seriously, they are big. The baklava is absolutely incredible - the best I've ever had. Not sickly sweet like many, and with a full, deep taste. Maybe they use more butter than others, who knows. Other than that we've only had a few seafood dishes that weren't very good. The greek dishes might be great but I can't render an opinion. Now for the atmosphere. We've had one snotty waitress who corrected my pronunciation. There's a guy who stands outside and glares as you come in, and then sits in the back and glares some more. Is he the owner? Am I trespassing? They have a tv on all the time which I'm not a fan of as my husband sometimes tunes out my voice frequency and watches the football game. One time I was there with a group and some weird guy came up and played with my hair. Now I love weird experiences but I'd rather not be glared at. My experience here was not very good. Atmosphere is pleasant but a bit corny. Service was not very good. At one point there were 12 tables with diners and no wait staff, none to be seen. Zero. This went on for some time. Our waiter finally returned through front door, presumably he was out smoking while we wanted service. My souvlacki was dry bits of hardened pork with made from frozen French fries. My wife's filet kabob was OK but came with a mound of rice with some sort of brown colored sauce. Greek Village is a decent place to get a Greek meal while in the Maryland 'burbs. When you walk in, you automatically think about "My Big Fat Greek Wedding (movie from the early 2000's for you young bloods)" and their family owned restaurant. This place is clearly owned by a Greek family...which is a good sign. The menu has some great options including vegetarian choices. My husband ordered the gyro and I ordered the spanakopita. Both came with a salad and a side. Also, they brought out some crusty bread (delish!) with butter to quell our hungry. Definately the best gyro platter found in the area. I have tried both Ambrosia's in Rockville and they don't come close to the tenderness and juiciness of this Gyro meat. If we hadn't been so insulted by the proprietor, I could review the food. Turns out that I can't because we will never know. While visiting the mother of a friend who's lived in the neighborhood for 20+ years,we decided to walk the 6 minutes and I hoped to introduce my favorite, chicken souvlaki. We simply asked for the pita to be put on the side and the owner scoffed and lectured me on how ridiculous a request this was. We thought he was joking, but he only became more disgusted the longer he thought about it. They could have had the patronage of a lovely family and their friends, but because of the service, we won't ever return. We were certain this was a prank. Lesson to Greek Village: Get back to basics and be nice to the people who attempt to patronize your otherwise empty restaurant. I've had freinds recommend dozens of places only to be so very disappointed each time. My sister recommended the Vilage when I was complaining to her about the taste of the food at another Greek place just up the road. It had been my 3rd trip to the other place, trying to give them every chance to redeem themselves. But 3 strikes and I was done with them. So, after listening to me rail. My sister suggested The Greek Village which she'd never been too, but whom friends of hers said they loved. Simply put, it was love at first bite. The food I've had at the Greek Village in about a dozen visits has been excellent each time. The dolmodes, was eye-rollingly delicous as was the moussaka. I had to resist stuffing it all in my mouth at once. And I am addicted to their Gyro sandwiches. It's been a real crusade to try and find a place in suburban DC that makes a half-way decent gyro. And if you're a gyro fan, you must know what I mean. Pass on the fries. You're not missing anything. And will leave more room for that overly large, delicious spicy gyro with the perfect tsatsiki (you know, it can make or break a good Gyro). The service goes from excellent to poor. As others have stated, a few of the male waiters tend to give you little attention. No one needs 15 minutes to read a menu before putting in a drink order. On the other hand, the female waitress I've had on 2 occasions was very attentive throught the entire meal. And the food from the kitchen doesn't take long. It's just getting the men to wait on you. I haven't tried any of their seafood. Sadly that's my girlfriend's domain, and I have yet to take her there. I'm a chicken and beef guy. And I haven't sampled a variety of the menu because the dolmodes and gyros are so damned good. The pricing I think is very good for the quantity and the quality. But the more expensive meals are the seafood, which again, I have no interest in. As much difficulty as I have writing the words, even with inattentive service, it's the best Greek restaurant in suburban D.C. Yay, I am a fan. I really enjoy eating here. I like many of their dishes, such as the gyro platter, mousaka, chicken shih kabobs, and my husband and I will split a baklava on occasion. We've never been disappointed with the food, service, environment. The place is clean, spacious and always has prompt service and there is ample parking. I called and ordered a gyro platter and a chicken kebab and came home opened the box only to discover the wrong order. I called and got yelled at by the older man who answered the phone telling me that I ordered what he gave me. He actually and literally yelled at me on the phone when I told him that I ordered a gyro platter. Why the heck would I order what is in this box when I've literally never even had it before?!?! I ordered the only thing that I've ever ordered from there and when I called to have the order corrected I get yelled at on the phone and hung up on?! Really??
