Decided to give this place a try as I've been on the hunt for some quality Greek food. All in all, I was very impressed. The ambiance here is romantic and intimate with low candle lit lighting . Perfect spot for a date night. The service we got here was also great. The owner stopped by our table several times to make recommendations. He's very personable and pleasant. Everything we ordered here was excellent and delicious. We started off with an order of the Spanikopita as an appetizer. The portions were very generous, and I highly recommended them. Next we got the main course. I got the gyro plate and my partner got the pastitsio . Again, very generous portions (the gyro is huge) and delicious. The main courses came with a soup and Greek salad. I don't know how we had the room for it but we lastly had the baklava cheesecake dessert. DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT TRYING THEIR DESSERT. We devoured it in less than a minute. So good! I was so impressed with Greektown and couldn't believe I hadn't been before. The service was fantastic. We over ordered (of course). We started with their fried cheese in phyllo... this was so good... like amazing. I had the lamb chops, which is a huge portion and tasty. They come with a great salad, soup, veggies, potatoes, bread (omg so much food). The husband had a tasty (and affordable) chicken pita. We had a fabulous dinner here with another couple who goes often. They have raved about it and rightfully so, the vibe and food made for a great date night out! It's family-owned and run and it shows. They have so much passion and enthusiasm for their restaurant. We started with the Saganaki and Calamari (both YUM) - for meals we got 1/2 and 1/2 plates which is a way of trying 2 similar dishes (almost like a sampler dish but for entrees). George prepares everything from his YiaYia's recipes and is very proud to tell you that these recipes are the best, (They are) The Moussaka and Pastitsio are amazing and the vegetables are prepared with lemon and cooked to perfection. It's hard to find words to properly praise Greektown. It's not just the best food, it's the best atmosphere while you eat. You have to start with the calamari. That is the best squid I've ever had and the lemon sauce they make could turn an old shoe into a delicacy. My second favorite is the capama lamb. The flavor will blow you away and even if you think you don't like lamb, the capama is sure to change your mind. You really can't go wrong with anything from Greektown and the appetizer chicken soup with lemon will start your meal with a simple but extravagant delight. I found this restaurant on a whim one day on Yelp years ago and my friend and I went to check it out and the food and the people were quite amazing. I would go back to Greektown every so often when the craving for a good meal hit me and what I mean by that was when I lived in Detroit, Michigan on every Friday all of girls who worked in offices nearby would venture over to one of many Greek restaurants and indulge in great food and Ouzo. Well, I then moved to the desert some 40yrs ago and knew that one day I would find this restaurant called Greektown. After many trips to this place on 7th Street I realized I was going down memory lane in my head. I had turned 70 this year and I wanted to share my birthday with friends & family here at the Greektown restaurant. I called George and asked if I could bring 11 people to his restaurant to help celebrate my birthday and he said yes. George welcomed us with open arms and a genuine care, setting the tone for a unforgettable evening. While we waited for our tables George made us feel right at home offering warm hospitality that stood out immediately and a tasty sangria I might add. After dinner I asked each of my guest the same question how was your meal? And each one smiled and said you did it again another fine meal with amazing food & impeccable service. I have not ever been treated so poorly by a restaurant owner. If I could I would give a zero minus zero stars. I ordered a Mediterranean salad and asked for extra feta because there was a tiny sprinkling on the salad. He took the check back and charged $4.00 for a tiny container of feta. I asked about and he said " it's a beautiful salad, you don't want it fine and proceeded to take it back. I was starving and said no that's fine I just don't get it what so pricey for a wee bit of feta. He replied "Don't blame me blame Joe Biden". I was appalled that politics came into my food purchase, no matter what my beliefs are it's not the time or place. I am so sad and very Hangry!!! We had a very enjoyable dinner for our first indoor dining experience in a year and a half. George and his family are welcoming and you are made to feel like part of the family instantly. The decor is exactly what I expected based on my experience with other greek restaurants and provides a very authentic ambiance. My recommendation is to request a booth as their chairs are not the most comfortable. We started with a greek wine and an order of Tiropites and Saganaki. That, combined with the basket of warm pita and garlic bread had me stuffed before my main course even arrived! Both starters were delicious and perfect as a meal by themselves. I ordered the souvlaki off of the special board and my dining companions ordered off the regular menu. All of the mains have super generous portions and come with avgolemono soup and a salad as well. After the soup I knew I really couldn't eat more so I pretty much had my main packed to go. The souvlaki order comes with 4 skewers, rice, veg and a potato! I have never been to a restaurant that gave more than 2 skewers so I was amazed by their portion. I did nibble a few pieces of chicken dipped in their homemade tzatziki before it was packed up and it was moist and delicious. i don't know how George managed to do it but he convinced the table to share a piece of baklava cheesecake. I thought that it would be a cheesecake that included the ingredients of baklava but it was just a piece of cheesecake with baklava on top. Based on the clean plate, I believe my dining companions enjoyed it. The meal concluded with a shot of ouzo and a rollicking "Opa". I won't lie, it was not the best greek food I have ever had (I have eaten a LOT of greek food around the world) but that doesn't mean that Greek Town's wasn't very good and delicious, because it was. That, combined with the warm hospitable atmosphere makes it a "must visit" if you want greek food in Phoenix. P.S. Came here last night and really enjoyed my meal here. The owner is there co.es by and says hi, very sweet guy. I ate here with my mom and we shared an order of dolmadas, they are very large, come as order of 3. As for entrees we order pretty much the same thing Greek lasagna but I got the mousaka which is made with eggplant instead of noodles and my mom got the Greek lasagna. Both were good, theu come with a side salad and cup of soup. Also there was veggies on the side which was an added bonus cause I didn't know that was part of the entree. Greek town was great! We entered the restaurant and the owner greeted us and had us sit at the bar until our table was ready. We ordered a specialty drink with ouzo , the drink was excellent. This place has amazing and authentic Greek food. The environment is very cozy and the customer service is even better. I believe it is a small-family business with the owner being the dad, the cook is the wife, and their 2 sons are the servers. We ordered the flaming cheese (don't know the Greek word), Calamari, and the Original Gyro. My partner also had a few beers.
